Chapter 2 - One Chance

A boy entered a restroom near a public children's park.

He wore a simple oversized green top and a big long black trouser that brushed the ground as he walked. He scanned left and right before entering through the open door.

Just then, a man in a very expensive black coat followed almost right behind. Just like the boy, he also scanned the surroundings and made sure there was no one around. The park was empty yet neatly tidied.

Upon careful examination of his surrounding, he entered the restroom, opening the door next to the one the boy had just entered.

"Young sir, I made sure no one would be able to enter the restroom for the next thirty minutes. It's safe…" the boy interrupted before the man could finish speaking.

"That much is expected, speak only what I must hear. You won't get another chance." The boy said in a voice devoid of any warmth.

'It's always such a hassle dealing with the psychopathic members of the Jorth Family. It's even worse because I'm acting as a double agent. At this point, I don't even know who to fear more, the crazy father, or the bastard son? It's hard to believe he's the same age as my daughter, when all he thinks of is how to make someone's head roll.'The man sighed in frustration as he sat on the water closet.

"Young sir, please accept my apologies. As you said, I'll get straight to the point. Everything has been progressing smoothly ever since you left the house. It's as though your father and brothers had forgotten about you. Your little sister, Ariel Jorth, has been making some strange moves, though I doubt she'll pose any treath to your plan…" before the man could finish his report, the the door in front of him was forced open.

The man's gaze shot up abruptly, taken aback by the boy's sudden bold move. According to the routine, the boy was supposed to be in the next room and wait for him to finish delivering the report. After that, he was supposed to wait for the boy to make his exit and follow after waiting for a few minutes.

So, when the door was suddenly forced open, he instinctively pulled out his desert eagle, pointing it in the direction of the door defensively while still sitting on the water closet.

"Please, hold on, you don't have to do this." The man began to speak with trembling voice. Before him stood the boy, holding a similar gun pointed directly at his forehead.

'I heard from my colleagues he was a nutjob, but I didn't think he was this crazy. Just what kind of a young teenage walks around with a real gun? Wait a minute, I might be able to get out of this if I play my cards right. No matter how smart he his, he's still a child. I bet he's scared to pull the trigger.'

"I told you to speak only what I must hear, so why are you telling me things I already know?" The boy's brow drew into a dangerously thin line as he stared into the man's firm gaze.

'Because I'm a double agent, there's a limit to how much information I can give to both sides. I didn't think he'll be this agitated about it. But still, there's nothing to worry about. I've remained true to my duties to both sides, I can use that as leverage. Though I've worked for him for a while now, this is the first time he had pointed a gun at me, that means I'm not the source of his anger.'

"I apologize once again, young sir. It seems I have offended you, could you please lower your gun and lets talk this out?" The man spoke with a tone of someone who had a difficult situation under control.

'It is as I suspected, I am not the source of his anger. In that case…'

"I told you that you only had one chance. You seem to take my words lightly. You suggest I lower my weapon, yet you point yours firmly in my direction. Do you take me for an idiot?" The boy's expression soften for a bit as he lowered his gun by a hair's breadth.

'He's hesitating. Now's my chance.'

"While it is true that I swore to devote my life to serving you, that does not mean you own my life, young sir. I too have a family that depends on me. As such, I must return to them alive. So you see, I cannot lower my weapon until…"

BANG! BANG!

Again the man was was interrupted, but this time not with words, but with two bullets burried deep in his forehead. The man slumped forward from the water closet, crashing onto the floor in a bizarre pose, unable to comprehend what had happened before his vision went completely dark forever.

The boy took deliberate steps towards the motionless body. He wore a blank expresion as he repositioned the body, checking his pulse for any signs of heartbeat.

"I can't believe he died from just two bullets, then again, I guess anyone would meet the same fate if I shot them twice in the head." He made unnecessary comments as he examined the man's motionless body.

After staring at the man for a while longer, he left the restroom.

Just as he walked through the open door, he saw another man dressed in a fine black suit standing guard at the door.

"Greetings, young sir." The middle aged man bowed, taking off his black hat as soon as his gaze fell on the scrawny boy.

"Clean up." The boy wore a blank expression the entire time he spoke.

'Clean up? Wait, don't tell me what I heard were real gunshots, then that means he…'

"Undrstood, young sir." The man nodded once.

"After you are done here, go to his wife and daughter and find out how much they know about the nature of his work. If they're ignorant, compensate them for the loss, and make sure they live the rest of their lives without any financial worries." The boy took measured steps towards the park as he spoke.

"What if he told them about his work? People with loved ones tend to break the most important of rules. It'll be bothersome if they decided to take action or report."

The boy turned his head ever so slightly, his face a mask of annoyance.

"What are you talking about? The dead don't speak, everybody knows that. You can ask him, I think he knows best." He gestured towards the restroom where the dead man from earlier lay.

'Just look at him telling me to eliminate an entire family with a straight face. I know it's part of my contract but still, isn't he still just a kid? How can he make such decisions so casually.' The middle aged man stared at the back of the boy as he disappeared into the distance.

…

"Why do we have to meet here again at this late hour. I've told you already, this place is way too creepy at night. Moments before you arrived, I heard somethig like a gunshot. I thought it was a terrorist attack."

The boy made his way down the park, passing by a couple that stood in a dimly lit corner. He turned his gaze briefly towards the blonde woman as she expressed her discomfort towards the man whose entire exposed left arm were tattooed.

"I'm sorry about that, my old has been on my neck ever since I got this tattoo, saying thing like young men are supposed to devote their life to Christ. It's so damn frustrating, I swear my ears would burst from another one of his early morning prayer sessions. This is the only way to escape his prying eyes. Don't worry, he'll die soon, I hope." The man planted his lips roughly on the woman's after he spoke.

"Wow, you have it rough, don't you?" the woman added after the man pulled away.

"Let's not waste anytime. I'm in the mood to do some thrusting. I know a motel close by, and it's free." The man pulled her further down the corner where there was a dead-end.

"You say that, but you weren't able to make it past thirty minutes last time." The woman teased.

"Not today, watch me go till sunrise."

The boy stopped and watched their backs for a while before he continued his walk.

He then turned his gaze to the sky and spoke.

"I think, it's time to go to school."
