Chapter 8 - CH- 3 The First Day of School [Part 2]

Part 2

I was about to ask 'Do you practice martial arts?' since it was a good opportunity, but then the front of the class got noisy.

Looking over, a delinquent-looking boy sitting with his legs up on the desk and the meddling glasses guy I saw during the entrance exam were arguing.

The glasses guy's name is... Iida Tenya, huh? Starting with 'I', his seat must be around the front near me, right?

Right after that, that green-haired, curly-haired boy came in. So he passed after all.

Then after that, the girl who was helped back then joined in, and it seemed like a friendly chat was about to start...

"If you want to play, go somewhere else."

Along with those words... a suspicious person appeared from beyond the door, inside a sleeping bag, slurping down a 10-second meal jelly with a 'Slurp!'

And surprisingly, the suspicious person was our homeroom teacher.

And he said.

"Right away, put on your gym clothes (these) and get out to the grounds."

☆☆☆

-A Quirk Apprehension Test!?-

Suddenly made to change and brought out to the grounds, that was what Aizawa Shota-sensei, who claimed to be our homeroom teacher, told us. They're making us do that on the first day? Today's the first day of school, you know...

"What about the entrance ceremony!? The orientation!?"

Seeming to think the same thing, the girl in the seat in front of me, Uraraka-chan, practically shouted the question, but the response was merciless.

"If you want to become heroes, you don't have time for such leisurely events."

No, but skipping them entirely is not good, right?

It sounds plausible, but if it wasn't necessary, they wouldn't have planned it in the first place... wait, we're not attending the entrance ceremony? If that's the case, then...

"U.A. boasts a free school culture. And that applies to the teachers as well."

"...Um, excuse me, Aizawa-sensei. I believe, in my acceptance notification message, I was told to give the freshman representative speech. Is that really okay?"

"Representative... ah, you're the one, Towa, second place in the entrance exam. I arranged with the teacher in charge of the entrance ceremony proceedings to omit it, so it's fine. Rest assured."

That was the moment my 3 hours and 25 minutes of effort went down the drain.

I practiced reading it so much I memorized it after numerous rewrites... Goddammit.

"You all did this in middle school too, right? The physical fitness test where Quirk use was prohibited... Bakugo, you had the top score in the entrance exam, right? Come here a sec... Softball throw, what was your personal best distance?"

"...67 meters."

"Now try it using your 'Quirk'. As long as you don't leave the circle, you can do anything."

Upon hearing that, the softball was handed to the delinquent-looking guy who was exchanging insults with Iida in the classroom earlier. That guy got top score... I lost to him?

While I was thinking he must be smart despite his appearance, that boy... Bakugo, swung the ball back dramatically...

"Die!!"

With a yell utterly unsuited for a softball throw, he threw it, and simultaneously caused an explosion in his palm. The ball flew off into the distant sky.

A moment later, I could just barely see the ball landing far, far away.

Simultaneously, the record 705.2m appeared on the small tablet-like device in Aizawa-sensei's hand. Hey, seriously?

His yell and his general behavior aside... I see, explosions. A powerful 'Quirk'.

Amidst this, someone said 'Seems fun', and Aizawa-sensei reacted.

"'Seems fun', huh?"

Instantly, a sensation like the air changing assaulted not just me, but everyone present.

"Planning to spend your three years aiming to become heroes with that kind of mindset? Fine... I'll judge the person with the lowest total score as having no potential... and subject them to 'Expulsion'."

"Whaaaaaaat!?"

A resounding scream echoed. However, Aizawa-sensei showed no sign of retracting it, saying 'Just kidding' or anything.

...This is serious, is this for real?

"The quality of students is up to us teachers... welcome, this is U.A. High School's Hero Course."

"Wait, expulsion for last place... it's the first day of school!? No, even if it wasn't the first day, that's way too unreasonable!"

"Natural disasters, major accidents, selfish villains... calamities whose arrival is unpredictable. Heroes are the ones who overturn those unreasonable situations. If you were looking forward to chatting at McDonald's after school, tough luck. For the next three years, U.A. will continuously throw trials at you with all its might... 'Plus Ultra'. Overcome them with everything you've got."

Is that the correct way to use the school motto, I wonder...?

With that method, even if the person isn't at fault, they get expelled just for being last place... but I thought we were allowed to enroll because we met the minimum standards, whether in physical ability or academic ability. To suddenly start weeding us out like this... is this teacher okay?

...He probably won't listen even if I say it, so I won't.

For now, I'll do my absolute best not to be last place... and pray for a 'I lied to make you all get serious' kind of plot twist.
