Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Secrets of the World

Lin Xuan tuned the radio to the frequency of the Red Light Squad.

"Commander Xu Chuan, this is Lin Xuan. Your mission objective has changed to the important classified documents inside the police station. Do you need other teams for support?"

There were two seconds of silence on the other end of the radio, followed by Commander Xu Chuan's confident voice with a hint of bloodthirsty laughter: "Commander, thank you for your generosity, but my squad has already scouted the place. They're just a bunch of living dead in uniforms. If we still needed support for a mission of this level, it would be a disgrace to Black Watch. Wait for my good news, over."

The communication cut off. The scene shifted to Commander Xu Chuan leading seven Black Watch elites, turning into dark shadows and disappearing into the eerie entrance of the police station.

The police station had long lost its former majesty. Over a dozen bullet-riddled police cars were scattered haphazardly at the entrance, with dark brown bloodstains dried on the steps. Commander Xu Chuan pushed open the heavy bulletproof glass doors, and a thick smell of rot wafted toward him.

"Tactical formation, stay alert. Kill any moving target on sight," Commander Xu Chuan ordered coldly.

Seven red laser aiming lines instantly wove into a net in the pitch-black hall.

"Hiss—ha!"

Several zombies, who were SWAT officers in life, were now wearing tattered tactical vests and even clutching batons tightly as they suddenly lunged from behind the dark medical information desk. Their movements were faster than ordinary zombies, and they even retained a sliver of their former instinct to swing their batons.

"Puff! Puff! Puff!"

The soft sounds of suppressors echoed in the empty hall, each accompanied by the explosion of a head. The Black Watch Soldiers' movements were clean and efficient, as if they weren't fighting but performing a precise surgical operation.

"Go to the second floor. The radio signal source is over there." Commander Xu Chuan stepped over the corpse of a zombie police officer, his tactical boots pulling threads of viscous blood.

When they pushed open the doors of the Communications Department, the sight before them made even the elite soldiers frown slightly. The room was packed with at least thirty zombies, seemingly attracted by some signal, frantically gnawing on servers and cables.

"Grenade," Commander Xu Chuan uttered briefly.

A soldier quickly pulled out a Thermite Grenade and rolled it precisely into the center of the zombie crowd.

"Boom—!"

Blinding white light and thousands of degrees of heat instantly swept through the room. The zombies didn't even have time to roar before they were carbonized into charred bones in the high temperature. Braving the heat that had yet to dissipate, Commander Xu Chuan stepped over the charred corpses and walked straight to the safe at the far end where documents were stored.

He took out an Electronic Decoder from his waist and skillfully plugged it into the interface. As the data stream flashed frantically on the screen, in less than a minute, there was a "click," and the heavy metal door slowly opened.

Inside lay several encrypted hard drives and a paper file folder stamped with the word "Classified."

"Got it." Commander Xu Chuan opened the file calmly and quickly; he needed to confirm it wasn't just a blank sheet of paper. His gaze lingered on it for a moment, and his pupils under the night-vision goggles suddenly contracted. "...So that's how it is. The Commander will definitely be interested in this."

(I am a dividing line) —————————————————-

In the dim second floor of the Gymnasium, which was filled with the smell of disinfectant and rot, Lin Xuan slowly closed the document whose edges were soaked with foul blood, his fingertips tracing the cold paper.

What Commander Xu Chuan brought back was not just intelligence, but a final funeral for the era of humanity.

The red "Classified" stamp on the white paper of the document looked particularly ironic under the flickering emergency lights. Governments around the world had been paralyzed, and the military forces of the world's most powerful countries had vanished into thin air at the same time.

"So, there are no reinforcements, right?" Lin Xuan looked up, his gaze sweeping over Commander Xu Chuan standing before him.

Commander Xu Chuan's bright yellow eyepieces looked like a pair of emotionless beast pupils in the dark. He maintained a perfect military posture, his voice steady without a hint of emotion: "Report, Commander. According to the last communications intercepted by the police station, organized resistance has basically disappeared. Existing armed forces are mostly in a state of fighting for themselves. We also found several bodies of police officers in riot gear inside the station; they clearly committed suicide, perhaps breaking down in despair."

Lin Xuan gave a cold laugh and casually tossed the document into a nearby brazier. Flames instantly leaped up, burning the secrets within the document to ashes.

At this moment, Chu Wenhai stepped forward, the black armor on his body still carrying a faint scent of blood that drifted around him. He looked at Commander Xu Chuan, the blue light in his electronic eye flickering slightly: "Is the 'trash' in the police station cleaned up?"

"A total of forty-two infected, three of which were on the verge of mutation," Commander Xu Chuan replied flatly. He held out his hand, showing a smudge of dried black-purple blood on the cuff of his white protective suit. "Black Watch never leaves any 'unclean' loose ends."

Chu Wenhai let out a low laugh that sounded like metal rubbing against sandpaper: "Commander, since it's already a complete mess outside, I suggest expanding the search range immediately. The fall of the police station means the resources in the city have become unclaimed property."

Lin Xuan nodded, having already made a decision. Since the main force had strongly established itself in the Gymnasium, more and more survivors had come to seek refuge, and the pressure on supplies was becoming heavier.

"Commander Xu Chuan, your squad will rest for one hour. Miller, your Marine Corps will expand outward with the school as the center. And then... Zhou Jianguo!"

Hearing the call, Zhou Jianguo scrambled up from downstairs: "Here! I'm here! Commander Lin, please give your orders!" Zhou Jianguo mimicked the others with some semblance of form.

"Pick out a dozen or so strong laborers from those survivors who passed the test. Have the Marine Corps give them shovels and crowbars. They'll be responsible for digging and farming at the school and installing barbed wire on the perimeter walls. Tell them those who do a good job will get canned meat to eat."

Zhou Jianguo's face twitched. Then, he unconsciously saw Karen Parker in a white coat behind Lin Xuan, who was giving him a weird smile. It scared him so much he almost lost his soul, and he hurriedly replied, "Yes! I'll go pick people right now! If anyone dares to be lazy, I'll whip them to death."

As the orders were given, the entire Gymnasium Fortress began to operate rapidly.

At the main entrance of the Gymnasium, the virus detector was still rhythmically making "beep-beep" sounds. Every crisp sound of a green light represented the birth of a laborer, while the occasional yellow or red light alarm was accompanied by sharp gunshots and the sound of heavy objects hitting the ground.

Lin Xuan stood upstairs, watching Commander Xu Chuan's squad prepare to set out again. They held modified assault rifles. This squad of only eight people emitted a sense of pressure that even overshadowed the surrounding Marine Corps.

Lin Xuan once again ordered Commander Xu Chuan's Red Light Squad to conduct external reconnaissance. After Lin Xuan and Commander Xu Chuan exchanged military salutes, Commander Xu Chuan led his team members and disappeared from everyone's sight.

On the school playground, Zhou Jianguo was waving a whip he had gotten from somewhere, driving a group of students. These students were digging the ground frantically and hard, fearing the whip would hit them the next second.

At this time, a delicate and handsome Pretty Boy tried to slack off, intentionally hiding behind a tree in the distance while the crowd was busy. Before he could even catch his breath, a whip swung toward him.

"Snap! Snap! Snap! Get up! Snap! Snap! Snap! You piece of trash."

"Ow! Don't hit me, Teacher Zhou."

"Call me Captain!"

The Pretty Boy cried out as he scrambled up, his hands then moving the shovel as fast as if he had been injected with chicken blood.
