Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Long-Range Multiple Rocket Launcher Vehicles

Lin Xuan sat on the wide leather chair in the command center, his fingers tracing through the air, bringing up a system panel that only he could see.

"System, calculate the current Biomass."

Following his command, a series of crisp and pleasant notification tones exploded in his mind, sounding like the most beautiful movement in the world.

[Ding! Congratulations to the host for occupying the Hope City base. Reward: 500 Biomass.]

[Ding! Congratulations to the host for completing the first stage of the blood toxin, "Blood Pool". Reward: 1000 Biomass.]

[Ding! Congratulations to the host for capturing an Intelligent Infected. Reward: 500 Biomass.]

[Ding! Congratulations to the host for capturing the Reborn, Zhao Yuwei. Reward: 3000 Biomass.]

[Host's current Biomass: 8970.]

Looking at the skyrocketing number, Lin Xuan's originally calm expression instantly froze, then turned into extreme astonishment.

"Huh?!" He suddenly sat up straight, his eyes fixed on the final notification. "A Reborn? Zhao Yuwei?"

He had originally thought the White Blood Cell Squad had only brought back a somewhat clever survivor or some rich kid with special resources. But he never expected that such a thing as a "Reborn", which defied all logic, actually existed in this world!

"Heh..." Lin Xuan suddenly started laughing, his laughter carrying a hint of absurdity and relief. "Well, since even a zombie virus and this heaven-defying system have appeared, what's so strange about a Reborn? This world went crazy a long time ago."

However, this also explained why that woman named Zhao Yuwei could build that level of fortress before the apocalypse and hoard a massive amount of supplies. She didn't have foresight; she had returned with memories of the future!

What did this mean? It meant she knew the future's direction, where the dangers were, and where the opportunities lay.

She was a living walkthrough library!

Lin Xuan felt unprecedented satisfaction with the White Blood Cell Squad leader "Ghost's" initiative. This subordinate not only had strong execution but also possessed terrifyingly sharp intuition, actually stumbling upon such a great gift for him.

He immediately pressed the communication button, his tone carrying unmistakable praise: "White Blood Cell Squad, this is Lin Xuan. You did very well this time, better than expected! All members are to take three days off and enjoy the highest level of logistical support. That woman... bring her to Interrogation Room 1. I want to question her personally."

"Received, Commander. It is our honor." Ghost's voice remained calm, but a hint of joy at being recognized could be heard.

After hanging up, Lin Xuan looked at the tempting 8,970 points of Biomass on the panel, rubbed his hands together, and his eyes flashed with a fanatical light.

"Hehe, since I have so much capital now, I might as well splurge! Let's do it, let's do it!"

He quickly browsed the system mall, his fingers clicking rapidly as if he were on a wild shopping spree.

"Firepower deficiency phobia? Doesn't exist. Give me 10 Long-Range Multiple Rocket Launcher Vehicles. I want the enemy to feel the roar of truth from a hundred kilometers away."

[Ding! Successfully purchased 10 Long-Range Multiple Rocket Launcher Vehicles. Consumed 3000 Biomass.]

"Not enough air support? Give me another 12 Attack Helicopters, Marine Corps version—high quality, low price, and heavy firepower."

[Ding! Successfully purchased 12 Marine Corps version Attack Helicopters. Consumed 1200 Biomass.]

"Ground assault forces also need to be strengthened... Main Battle Tanks, give me 36 of them. Let's have a steel torrent."

[Ding! Successfully purchased 36 Marine Corps version Main Battle Tanks. Consumed 1800 Biomass.]

"...And supplement some more soldiers, Gentek Scientists, and Drones..."

As Lin Xuan continued to click, the Biomass that had been nearly nine thousand quickly dwindled, but he felt incredibly fulfilled and powerful. A true modern army with three-dimensional combat capabilities was taking shape in his hands.

...

Meanwhile, on the helipad of F Base, the gale from the propellers made it impossible to keep one's eyes open.

Zhao Yuwei was escorted off the helicopter, stumbling, by two fully armed Black Watch Soldiers. Her hands were tied behind her back with high-strength nylon zip ties, and although the sharp pain in her abdomen had subsided slightly, she still couldn't stand up straight.

However, when she looked up and saw the scene before her, the physical pain seemed to vanish instantly, replaced by a shock deep within her soul.

How was this still the scholarly F University campus she remembered?

The originally wide playground had been transformed into a massive military base. Rows of neat military tents and modular barracks stretched to the edge of her vision. Thick steel plates had been added to the walls of the teaching buildings, and Automated Machine Gun Sentry Towers were placed at key positions on the roofs and surrounding areas.

On the flat concrete ground were several behemoths she had only seen in military magazines and movies—Main Battle Tanks. Their long smoothbore gun barrels emitted a cold metallic luster, like beasts waiting to devour someone.

Several Armored Vehicles were parked nearby, their autocannons pointing toward the sky.

Further away, she even saw Heavy Trucks unloading supplies and rows of soldiers undergoing formation training. They held uniform, advanced assault rifles, and every movement was synchronized, filled with a killing aura.

In the sky, several Attack Helicopters were circling on patrol, their loud roar like the whisper of the Grim Reaper.

Zhao Yuwei felt a wave of dizziness. She had scraped by for months in her previous life, and the strongest armed forces she had seen were just gangs of thugs with police pistols and homemade bombs. Even the surviving armed forces at this point in time were mostly fighting their own battles, in a wretched state.

But here... a military base so massive, so formal, and so well-equipped had actually been established!

How was this possible? This was completely beyond her understanding! Was this also a butterfly effect caused by her rebirth?

Fear flooded over her like a tide. She had originally thought that with the advantage of her rebirth and that sturdy fortress, she was already a top-tier player in this world. But now it seemed she was just a self-righteous frog at the bottom of a well.

She thought of the massive amount of supplies she had hoarded, the huge debts she had incurred to build the fortress, and most importantly, her greatest secret—her rebirth.

What if these people discovered her secret? What if they knew she was a Reborn?

In this post-apocalyptic world without the constraints of law and morality, what would a person with the ability to foresee the future mean to such a powerful force?

Would she be an honored guest? Or... a lab rat?

She couldn't help but shudder as a terrifying image flashed through her mind of being tied to an operating table and sliced up for research by a group of people in white coats.

"Move faster! Don't dawdle!"

The soldier behind her gave her a rough shove, interrupting her wandering thoughts. Zhao Yuwei stumbled and almost fell. She bit her lip, holding back tears, and lowered her head like a lamb led to slaughter.
