Chapter 8 - First Public Appearance

Chapter 7 — First Public Appearance

Lina's heart raced as she stepped out of the mansion's black limousine. The city streets were bustling, but all she could see were flashing cameras and the crowd that had gathered.

"Stay close," Adrian said, his hand brushing against hers briefly. The contact was electric, making her stomach flutter despite the tension.

Inside the grand ballroom, chandeliers glittered like stars. Celebrities, socialites, and business elites mingled, all dressed impeccably. Lina felt like a small fish in an ocean of sharks.

Adrian guided her through the crowd, his gaze always scanning, always alert. When someone whispered her name, she froze, and he squeezed her hand lightly.

"You must smile, but not too much," he said quietly. "Confidence is a weapon."

Lina nodded, trying to control the tremor in her hands.

They reached the center of the room where cameras clicked incessantly. Flashing lights blinded her for a moment. Adrian stepped forward, introducing her with his usual calm authority.

"This is my wife, Lina Vale."

The room murmured. Some eyes were admiring, others skeptical. Lina could feel the weight of every stare, every judgment.

A journalist stepped forward, microphone poised. "Mrs. Vale, how does it feel to marry the city's most eligible billionaire?"

Lina swallowed, keeping her composure. "It's… an honor," she said softly.

Adrian's eyes narrowed subtly, a warning hidden beneath his usual cold expression. Lina understood: one wrong word, one misstep, and this world could crush her.

As the evening continued, she tried to navigate the delicate dance of conversation and social grace. But her nerves betrayed her — a slip of the tongue here, a nervous laugh there.

Finally, she thought the night would end without incident… until someone in the crowd caught Adrian's attention.

A woman, dressed in crimson, winked at him, smiling in a way that made Lina's stomach drop. The subtle gesture was enough to plant seeds of doubt, jealousy, and fear.

Adrian's hand tightened slightly around hers. Lina felt the cold edge of his protective authority.

And for the first time, she realized: in Adrian's world, appearances weren't just everything — they were dangerous.
