Chapter 6 - Who is The Enigma? part 6

Part 6

The Inspector stepped out of the room. Behind him, a constable and the remaining Sharma family came, weeping and wailing. Coming downstairs, they reached the same room where the corpses of Raja and Prakash were lying. Without wasting a single moment, the Inspector immediately went out through the back door. Understanding the gravity of the situation, everyone else also followed the Inspector outside.

On three sides of the Haveli, fifteen feet of space had been left vacant so that sufficient light and air could continue to reach the back and sides of the Haveli. It was pitch dark outside, but just then a boy turned on the light, and there was a good amount of illumination. Now it was clearly visible that the thin, strong thread, coming out of the ventilator, was swinging at that same height and had gone straight inside the opposite wall.

That is, on the back wall where the tube-light was glowing, right there, the mechanic had drilled a hole through the wall using a drilling machine, and through this hole, that thread had entered inside that three-story building. Just then, a boy spoke— "Inspector, that mechanic had installed this tube-light on this wall only this morning— he must have made the hole through the wall with the drilling machine then— but I remember, this thread was not here during the daytime— the thread was brought from the room's ventilator to the inside of this wall only after it became dark."

"We will discuss these matters later— we might even find that killer in the three-story building— therefore, all of you come with me so that he can be easily surrounded."

Upon hearing the Inspector's words, their father, running towards the road outside, said— "This government school is quite large— there are neighborhood houses built in all three directions behind it and on its sides— we can enter it only after crossing a winding path of about five kilometers."

The Inspector also ran behind him, shouting while taking out the jeep keys from his pocket— "Everyone, get in the jeep quickly and take me there— because I have only recently arrived in this city." That constable named Sanjay, whom the Inspector had sent out of the Haveli after hearing the noise of the bell, also boarded the jeep upon seeing them. Just fifteen seconds later, the Inspector started the jeep and raced it onto the road.

"Where is Subhash?" that girl screamed upon finding her brother missing from the jeep. Just then, there was a vibration in the Inspector's mobile once again, so he took out the mobile with one hand, and as soon as his eyes went to the screen, the Inspector suddenly slammed on the brakes. Because The Enigma had sent a WhatsApp message again. Everyone on board the jeep shifted forward with a jolt.

But everyone recovered immediately, and then the Inspector opened and read that WhatsApp message:

"My mind is my weapon, I do not wield a dagger,

With clever moves, I shall break Subhash's skeletal structure (Subhash ka asthi panjar)."

As soon as the Inspector fell silent, that girl and both her brothers immediately jumped out of the jeep and ran towards the Haveli. Along with their father and the two constables, the Inspector also came quickly behind them, leaving the jeep there. There was a distance of hardly fifty paces between the jeep and the Haveli. After only ten seconds, they reached the boundary wall of the Haveli.

Just then, they suddenly saw a light from above the roof at the back of the Haveli. That light showed only a glimpse and vanished the next moment. They all reached the back of the Haveli, running through the fifteen-foot empty passage alongside the Haveli. But seeing the sight there under the glowing tube-light, it was as if the ground slipped from beneath everyone's feet.

Blood was flowing rapidly on the floor, and Subhash, who was now drenched in blood, was lying on the floor groaning miserably. His condition itself was telling that more than half the bones in his body had been broken.
