Chapter 2 - The System Has Chosen Me

Chapter-2

The night was quiet.

Arjun lay on his old wooden bed, staring at the cracked ceiling of his small house. His body was tired after carrying cement bags the whole day. His hands were rough, and his shoulders burned with pain.

But the pain inside his heart was worse.

That evening, his contractor had insulted him again in front of everyone.

"You are just a village worker. Stop dreaming big."

Those words kept repeating in his mind.

Was this really his future?

To work as a laborer forever?

To live and die without changing anything?

Arjun closed his eyes slowly.

And then—

Ding.

A strange mechanical sound echoed inside his head.

His eyes opened instantly.

"What was that?"

The room was dark. Nothing had changed.

But suddenly, a blue glowing screen appeared in front of him.

Floating in the air.

Transparent.

Unreal.

Arjun stopped breathing.

Arjun blinked several times.

The screen did not disappear.

His heart started beating fast.

"Is this a dream?"

Before he could think more, another notification appeared.

[ Beginner Mission Released ]

Mission: Get your first independent construction contract within 7 days.Reward: 50,000 rupees + Skill Upgrade.Failure: System will permanently shut down.

Time Remaining: 7 Days.

"Seven days?" Arjun whispered.

He had no company. No money. No team.No experience as a boss.

How could he get a contract?

But something changed inside him.

For the first time in his life, he felt hope.

Real hope.

The next morning, Arjun woke up before sunrise.

Instead of feeling tired, his mind was active.

If he wanted a contract, he needed to start small.

Very small.

Village-level repair work.

House renovation.

Anything simple.

At the construction site, he started observing carefully.

How much cement was used. How much material was wasted. How much money the supervisor secretly took.

Suddenly, the blue screen appeared again.

[ Skill Unlocked: Basic Construction Analysis ]

You can now estimate material cost and labor more accurately.

Arjun looked at a pile of sand.

Numbers automatically appeared in his mind.

Estimated cost.Required quantity.Possible savings.

His eyes widened.

"This is real…"

During lunch break, he overheard two workers talking.

"Old Mr. Sharma's house is in bad condition. He wants repairs, but contractors are asking too much money."

Arjun froze.

That was his chance.

Mr. Sharma was a retired school teacher in the village.

His house was old but repairable.

Arjun decided to take the risk.

That evening, instead of going home, he walked toward Mr. Sharma's house.

The walls were cracked.

The roof had small damage.

But it was not a big project.

He took a deep breath and knocked on the door.

The old man opened it.

"Arjun? What brings you here?"

"Sir, I heard you need house repairs. I want to try."

The old man looked surprised.

"You?"

"Yes. I work at construction sites every day. I understand materials. I can do it at lower cost. I promise quality."

The old man studied him carefully.

"Are you confident?"

For a moment, Arjun felt nervous.

But then he remembered the countdown.

6 days remaining.

He lifted his head.

"Yes. Please give me one chance."

[ Confidence Increased +5 ]

Arjun quickly calculated the estimated cost in his mind.

He gave a reasonable price.

Lower than city contractors.

But enough for small profit.

The old man did not answer immediately.

"I will tell you tomorrow."

Arjun nodded and left.

His palms were sweating.

If this failed, the system would disappear forever.

That night, he could not sleep.

He kept staring at the countdown.

6 Days Remaining.

The next morning, his contractor shouted at him again for being distracted.

But this time, Arjun stayed calm.

Inside, he was thinking bigger.

In the afternoon, his phone rang.

Unknown number.

"Hello?"

"Arjun, this is Mr. Sharma."

His heart stopped for a second.

"Yes, sir?"

"I accept your offer. But you must finish the work on time. And no cheating."

Arjun felt electricity run through his body.

"I promise."

[ Beginner Mission Accepted ]

Advance Received: 10,000 rupees.Time Limit: 7 Days.

For the first time in his life, money entered his hand not as salary—

But as responsibility.

Arjun held the cash tightly.

This was his first step.

That evening, he did not rest.

He made a full plan.

Material list.Labor requirement.Cost control.

The system helped him optimize everything.

Every small detail became clear.

But he did not notice something.

From a distance, his contractor was watching him.

Suspicious.

Why was this poor worker meeting clients?

Why was he suddenly confident?

Trouble was coming.

As the sun set behind the village fields, Arjun looked at the sky.

"This is only the beginning."

The blue screen appeared one more time.

[ Main Quest Activated ]

From Village Laborer → Billionaire Empire Owner.

Step 1: Complete the first project successfully.

Arjun smiled for the first time in years.

The game had started.
