Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: He Didn’t Use His Mouth?

This… this…?

Zhang Yang felt a little panicked.

He had only just joined the pack, and the system was already telling him to seize power and stage a coup. Zhang Yang wanted to protest — he wasn't that kind of wolf!

"Fine… since they've treated me so well, from now on I'll lead them to eat well and live comfortably."

Zhang Yang comforted himself with this thought, then happily prepared to enjoy his days of being pampered and fed.

The next day.

Inside the wolf den.

"Oh my god, System, you're screwing me over again!"

Zhang Yang howled inside his personal wolf den.

Because when he woke up in the morning and glanced at his attribute panel…

What happened?

All his stats had increased — quite a lot, actually. Constitution, Strength, Agility, and Mental Power — each had gone up by 1 point.

At first Zhang Yang was curious, then he understood, and finally he felt utterly miserable.

He was curious why the stats suddenly rose. Then he realized — he could feel his body had become stronger.

Eating food naturally makes the body stronger, so the attribute increase wasn't really a surprise.

The misery came from realizing the System had tricked him regarding Evolution Points.

"Big Bro, you're awake? Whoa, Big Bro, how come you look completely different after just one night's sleep?"

The big pup was extremely attentive toward Zhang Yang and came running over first thing in the morning.

"Hey, you're just called Big Pup? Don't you have a real name?"

Big Pup nodded.

Zhang Yang looked at him with pity — stuck with an illiterate dad, what a tragedy.

"How about from now on you're called Wolf Qing?"

"Big Bro gave me this name? It sounds so cool! Okay, I'll be Wolf Qing from now on!" Wolf Qing was thrilled, thinking the name sounded very impressive. He secretly felt that lone wolves who roamed outside really were something else.

"Mm, alright then, Wolf Qing… your big bro is a bit hungry… you know what to do!"

Wolf Qing dashed off like a rocket. Hunger? Easy — just go get food.

The days of being fed were extremely comfortable. Zhang Yang's body was changing at a visible pace every single day.

The alpha wolf had originally thought it would take one or two months to raise him back to health, but unexpectedly, in just six days Zhang Yang had grown to look exactly like a normal jungle wolf.

Build, fur — everything matched.

The alpha could only sigh: Youth really is wonderful.

"There might still be some hidden issues with your body. How about resting a few more days?"

In the hunting party, the alpha spoke to Zhang Yang.

Zhang Yang had strongly insisted on joining the hunt today, so the alpha could only agree, though he was still a bit worried.

Zhang Yang, however, really couldn't stand staying idle anymore.

He had considered living the "eat and wait to die" lifestyle, but his remaining lifespan wouldn't allow it.

Sure, he looked strong and healthy now, but after subtracting the six days of being fed, he only had 9 days left to live.

If he didn't want to die, he had to quickly gain Evolution Points or complete the mission.

Completing the mission seemed difficult for now, but gaining Evolution Points shouldn't be too hard.

Hunting = killing monsters = getting Evolution Points.

"No need. My bones are getting rusty. I want to hunt."

"Alright then. Follow the team and don't rush ahead recklessly."

The alpha gave the order. He was actually quite pleased that Zhang Yang was so motivated — it proved his judgment hadn't been wrong.

The wolf pack moved through the jungle. Their territory was much larger than Zhang Yang had imagined — dozens of kilometers in every direction belonged to their activity range.

Right now, Zhang Yang's stamina and speed were enough to keep up with the pack. After several days of being fed, his stats had changed dramatically.

Host: Zhang Yang Species: Jungle Wolf (Mortal Beast) Strength: 11 Constitution: 12 Agility: 11 Mental Power: 10 Talents: Immense Strength (Top-tier) Dissevered Limb Regeneration Sharpness Storage Space: Primary Poison ×1, Immense Strength Fragment (Primary) +30 (32 slots) Evolution Points: 880 Lifespan: 8 days 2 hours 58 minutes (Note: You now have the capital to survive in this jungle. Keep working hard, little wolf.)

As a jungle wolf, these stats were already quite合格 (qualified). And this was without him using Evolution Points to strengthen himself further — who knew what the attribute limit for a jungle wolf even was.

Moreover, with his Immense Strength talent providing a fourfold boost, his actual combat power was terrifying.

"Antelope spotted."

"I'll go."

The scouting wolf had only just sent the signal when Zhang Yang immediately rushed forward.

Prey = Evolution Points. Zhang Yang felt he had every right to claim first dibs.

"Go ahead."

The alpha didn't stop him.

But the other wolves were somewhat dissatisfied.

They didn't believe Zhang Yang could succeed.

Antelopes weren't easy prey — large body, fast speed. If you weren't careful, you could easily get kicked several times.

Normally they hunted cooperatively.

In terms of individual combat ability, wolves actually weren't that strong — you could tell just from their base stats. Stronger than an average human, but not by much.

Their real strength lay in group coordination. Even powerful creatures like brown bears could be taken down when surrounded.

Zhang Yang didn't have any of those complicated thoughts. All he wanted was to see how many Evolution Points this antelope would give him.

The poor antelope had no idea it was being targeted.

By the time it sensed danger, Zhang Yang was already charging.

Body low to the ground, inching forward, then exploding into motion at the perfect attack distance.

The whole sequence was smooth and practiced — he didn't look like a hunting novice at all.

Zhang Yang thought to himself: In his previous life, he had watched plenty of Animal Planet. Just copy what he saw — no big deal.

Actually, other jungle wolves could perform the same moves. The key to hunting an antelope was that final bite.

If you didn't hit a vital spot, things got interesting.

The antelope would drag you sprinting wildly through the jungle.

Your wolf body would flap in the wind like a red cloth tied to a speeding car.

(Except this cloth was a bit oversized.)

"He didn't use his mouth?"

When Zhang Yang pounced, all the wolves noticed something strange — he hadn't even tried to bite.

Even the alpha frowned at that moment.

What was Zhang Yang doing?

Even if he failed to bite a vital point this time, at least it would prove his hunting ability and show he could integrate into the group properly.

But he didn't even open his mouth — why?

The next second, every wolf's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.

Deep down, Zhang Yang actually felt a bit disdainful.

Dealing with one antelope and you still need to use your mouth? Are you kidding me?

One paw can pin it down dead, okay?

Other wolves might lack individual strength, but that didn't apply to him.

With four times the strength amplification, Zhang Yang's raw power was around 500 jin (≈250 kg / 550 lbs).

Pressing down an antelope with that kind of force was effortless.

Even if this antelope had undergone slight mutation in this world, it still only weighed around 100 jin (≈50 kg / 110 lbs).

How could something that size possibly escape his claws?

The antelope was miserable — its head was pinned firmly to the ground by Zhang Yang. Its four legs kicked wildly, sending dirt flying everywhere.

Unfortunately, no matter how much it struggled, it couldn't free its head.

And Zhang Yang was even more infuriating — after pinning it, instead of biting, he shifted to stand on its head with his hind legs, then used one front claw to viciously tear open the antelope's throat.

Yes — he tore it open with his claws.

"Ding! Killed antelope. Gained 50 Evolution Points."

"Only 50 points?"

Zhang Yang was a little dissatisfied.
