Chapter 13 - Fire in the Headlines

The morning sun reflected off the glass towers of Manhattan, but Bella Hartley's world felt like it was crumbling. Overnight, Vincent Crawford had struck again—this time releasing a carefully doctored video to the media. It showed Bella supposedly dismissing a small charity donation as "insignificant," an act that could tarnish her reputation and alienate investors.

Bella stared at her laptop in disbelief. Her pulse quickened. "How dare he…" she muttered.

Sophia's voice was calm but urgent. "Bella, you need to respond quickly. This could go viral within hours."

Bella nodded, trying to steady herself. "Call Ethan. He has to see this too."

Ethan arrived within the hour, entering the sleek penthouse with a determined stride. He looked at the screen and clenched his fists. "Vincent's crossed a line this time," he said. "We need to fix this, fast."

Bella looked at him, her eyes a mix of frustration and relief. "I can't do it alone, Ethan. This… it's not just business anymore. He's attacking everything I stand for."

Ethan took her hand, his grip firm. "Then we fight together. You and me. Always."

They moved quickly. Bella contacted her legal and PR teams while Ethan drafted a counter-narrative, reaching out to key media contacts he had learned about from previous events. Their strategy was precise: truth, transparency, and direct communication.

The hours passed in a blur of phone calls, emails, and interviews. Bella, usually composed and confident, leaned on Ethan's steady presence. Each time doubt crept in, his words reminded her: "We face it together."

By late afternoon, the first wave of investor and public inquiries was neutralized. Bella's statement went live: she had personally contributed to the charity years ago, and the doctored video was a fabrication. Social media began to tilt back in her favor.

That evening, Bella and Ethan met for a quiet dinner on the rooftop of her penthouse, overlooking the glowing city. The tension from the day was still heavy, but their bond had grown stronger through the fire.

"You were incredible today," Bella said softly. "I don't know how I'd manage without you."

Ethan smiled, taking her hand. "You don't have to wonder. I'm here. All of this… the stress, the fights, the chaos—I'm here with you."

Bella leaned closer, her forehead resting against his. "I don't just want you for the easy days, Ethan. I want you for all of it."

"I want all of it too," he whispered, his voice low and sure. "With you."

Meanwhile, in a distant skyscraper, Vincent Crawford watched the news coverage with a scowl. His plan to humiliate Bella publicly had been thwarted by Ethan's quick thinking and their teamwork.

Vincent's eyes narrowed. "They think this ends here? Not even close. This game has only begun."

Outside, the city shimmered with life and light. Bella and Ethan, two hearts from different worlds, had survived another storm. Their love had grown, their trust had deepened, and their resolve had strengthened.

And though Vincent's shadow still loomed, for the first time, Bella and Ethan felt unbreakable together.
