Chapter 1 - INTRODUCTION

PROLOGUE

The Republic, or the Republic of Humanica, is part of Egbertia. It is a city located in the western part of the kingdom. This city can compete with the Egbertian capital in terms of wealth, economy, and military strength. The former governor of Humanica was a close friend of Loperius. After his death, he entrusted the city to Loperius, who served as its guardian. Loperius came from a village near the Western Borders, a region belonging to the Kingdom of Egbertia. He studied at Egbertia University in the capital when he was a teenage boy, then joined the military at the age of 16 as a member of the Swordsman Infantry Unit. He became an Infantry Commander at the age of 17 after serving one year as a swordsman. Loperius fought his first war in a skirmish on the Western Border near Dadosesani against the Ou Clan cavalry from Barbaria. His captain, Dorotius (now one of his lieutenants), noticed his skills in swordsmanship and leadership. After the battle, Loperius was promoted to Infantry Commander and gained command of both the Swordsmen and Heavy Infantry units. In the year 25 AG, the Mordic Revolution occurred, led by Charleus Mordo, a former Egbertian commander who now led the Mordic Religion together with Balban the Sage. Loperius was assigned to the northern frontier, located in the Northern Plains. Near Soissons, he won a small victory against Mordic soldiers and was promoted to Independent Lieutenant, meaning he no longer served under a general. After a month on the northern frontier, he received a direct message from Humanica. Governor Rudius summoned him to help the city against invading barbarians. Loperius headed west to save Humanica, but before leaving, he sought permission from the legendary Egbertian general, Hannus Barcid. Hannus granted permission, and Loperius marched to Humanica with 20,000 men. Upon arriving in Humanica, he saw no enemy army nearby and rushed to meet the governor. The governor introduced him to a maiden priest named Daela. She declared that Loperius was the next Dragon Master. Loperius was aware of his Dragonoid heritage, but he did not know he could command dragons so soon. He then learned that his grandfather had died, and he had inherited the Dragon Mastership. The report sent to Loperius turned out to be a false alarm. Because of this, he missed the grand battle in the Northern Plains that decided the fate of humanity. Months after the war, Mordo established the Mordic Theocracy, created its throne, and proclaimed himself Holy Emperor. King Egbert III of Egbertia had no choice but to acknowledge the new nation that had arisen north of his kingdom. Due to the weakened Egbertian military, Humanica gained its sovereignty three years later and proclaimed itself the Republic of Humanica. Senators governed the nation, and consuls were elected yearly to hold the highest authority of the republic. Many reforms were enacted, and envoys were sent to neighboring countries to gain recognition. Most diplomatic missions succeeded, and after four years of reform, the republic successfully held elections for consul. Because of his popularity, Loperius was elected the first consul in the year 32 AG. That same year, he began his conquests and changed the course of the world's wars. Loperius had trained his dragons for four years before being elected consul. His first campaign was against the Great Orc Empire. He sought to settle the score with the orcs after humanity's devastating defeat at Katistyre in the year 14 AG, where Mordo, then a young commander, experienced the horrors of war that later pushed him to establish his theocracy. Loperius aimed to capture the Port Area of Katistyre, but the campaign ended inconclusively because he lacked enough troops to breach the port's defenses. During his first campaign as consul, he demonstrated the dominance of dragons in warfare. In the following years, Loperius became the central figure who drew the world into an age of war and invasion.
