Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 — The Message

Seraphina almost missed it.

Her phone buzzed against the kitchen counter while she rinsed blueberries from her fingertips, laughter still lingering from the video she'd just filmed — flour on her cheek, batter on the counter, nothing staged, nothing perfect.

Exactly how she wanted it.

She reached for her phone, expecting Camila.

Instead, a message sat at the top of her inbox.

@S.A

No profile photo.

No posts.

No name.

Just two letters.

A strange, quiet curiosity moved through her as she opened it.

You didn't cut out the part where you dropped everything.

That made the video feel real.

She blinked.

Not a compliment.

Not flirtation.

Not praise.

Observation.

Specific. Precise.

Seraphina leaned against the counter, rereading the words slowly. A small warmth spread through her chest — the unfamiliar feeling of being noticed rather than admired.

She typed before she could lose the courage.

I almost deleted it.

The reply came within seconds.

I'm glad you didn't.

Most people remove what makes them human.

Her breath caught slightly.

Something about the sentence felt… heavy. As if it came from someone who understood constructed worlds too well.

She tapped the profile.

Private.

Empty.

Silent.

A ghost account.

Her pulse gave a faint, inexplicable shift.

She typed again, hesitant.

I'm still figuring things out.

Three dots appeared.

Paused.

Appeared again.

Then:

You're doing it right.

Keep going.

That was all.

No emoji.

No follow.

No introduction.

Just certainty.

Seraphina stared at the screen longer than necessary, something steady settling beneath her ribs. It wasn't fame. It wasn't validation.

It was recognition.

From someone who had nothing to gain by giving it.

Her gaze drifted to the tripod still standing on the counter.

For the first time since Ethan had shattered her world, the path ahead didn't feel imaginary.

It felt witnessed.

She set the phone down slowly.

Then, almost without thinking…

She opened her notes app and began planning her next video.
