Chapter 2 - Chapter 2- Aura Wardens

The city had changed. Streets that once thrummed with the distant footsteps of police officers were now calm, orderly, and strange in their precision. Crime rates had dropped. Accidents were prevented before they happened. Fires were contained before they could spread.

All thanks to Aura Wardens.

Trained humans who could sense disturbances, manipulate energy, and intervene with precision, the Wardens were now the backbone of public safety. They replaced many traditional roles of law enforcement, moving silently through the streets, glowing faintly as their aura flowed in protective patterns. Some guided children across intersections, while others stabilized patients in hospitals or calmed heated arguments before they escalated.

They were everywhere, yet rarely noticed unless needed.

For seven-year-old Shigure, however, it all felt distant. Today was his first day at nursery, and the building buzzed with youthful energy. Children laughed and chased each other down the corridors, some glowing faintly from their own emerging auras. Teachers guided their students, encouraging them to sense and shape their energy safely.

Shigure stepped in quietly, hands tucked in his sleeves. A faint yellow glow pulsed softly along his palms, subtle yet impossible to ignore. Immediately, a few children paused, whispering to each other.

"Look! His hands are glowing!" one voice squeaked."Is that… magic?" another asked.

Shigure's head dipped, eyes to the floor. He had learned early that his aura made him different. Most children had faint blue or green energy, barely perceptible, while his yellow aura pulsed brighter than many adults could manage. Even in a nursery full of aura-capable children, he was unusual.

A girl with a soft golden aura approached, curiosity bright in her eyes."Wow… your hands… they shine! Can you control it?"

Shigure hesitated. "I… I think so," he muttered softly.

The girl's eyes lit up. "Show me!"

With a small motion of his hands, yellow energy flared and shimmered, tracing delicate sparks in the air. Gasps ran through the nursery. Some children stepped back, startled. Others leaned closer, fascinated. For the first time, Shigure felt both fear and pride.

Outside, a squad of Aura Wardens moved silently along the streets, glowing faintly as they scanned the city for disturbances.

A distracted driver veered slightly off the crosswalk, and a Warden's aura flared subtly, guiding the car away from a child chasing a ball. Another Warden steadied an elderly man crossing the street, the faint energy of their aura keeping him balanced.

This was the world Shigure had been born into: one where aura was the law, the shield, and the guiding hand.

Inside, the teacher guided the children through their first aura exercises. "Sense each other's energy," she instructed gently. "Learn how it flows, how it reacts. And remember-control comes before power."

Children stretched their hands toward one another, faint glows pulsing and blending. Shigure felt the surrounding auras and instinctively responded. His yellow light flared slightly, brighter than intended, and a few classmates jumped back in awe.

One boy with faint green aura approached cautiously."You're… different," he said, voice a mixture of admiration and wariness. "I've never seen anyone glow like that."

Shigure said nothing, lowering his head. Attention was dangerous. Curiosity often turned to fear or rejection.

The golden-aura girl stayed beside him. "It's amazing! One day, you could be a Warden, right?"

Shigure blinked. "A… Warden?"

"Yes!" she said, eyes sparkling. "They protect the city. Like… heroes, but real. You could do that!"

For a moment, Shigure imagined walking the streets, yellow aura glowing, guiding and protecting those around him. The thought was terrifying and exhilarating at once-but also… comforting.

The teacher noticed his hesitation. "Shigure, why don't you try a simple control exercise?" she suggested with a smile. "Nothing too strong, just a small display."

He nodded slightly. Yellow energy traced along his fingers and wrists, pulsing gently. The children gasped again, some leaning in, some still unsure. For the first time, Shigure felt the weight of his aura in a social setting-not just as a tool, but as a part of who he was.

Exercises continued throughout the morning. Children practiced moving small objects, sensing each other's energy, and sharing bursts of aura safely. Shigure began to notice patterns in their abilities-who had steady energy, who reacted nervously, and who struggled to control even a faint glow. He realized that being different could also be an advantage, giving him abilities others might never have.

During lunch, Shigure sat slightly apart, yellow glow dimming as he ate quietly. Some classmates came closer, fascinated. Others whispered behind him, unsure. The golden-aura girl remained, chatting softly, encouraging him with her bright curiosity.

A sudden incident broke the quiet. A child accidentally sent a small block flying with uncontrolled aura. Shigure reacted instinctively, flaring his yellow energy just enough to slow its fall. The block hovered gently before settling safely.

"You… saved me!" the girl exclaimed, eyes wide.

Shigure felt a warmth inside-a first taste of what it meant to use his energy for others, to help without being asked.

As the day ended, children filed out to parents and waiting Aura Wardens, who moved like guardians of a silent city. Shigure walked home slowly, yellow aura fading in the evening light. He thought about the girl's words, about the Wardens outside, and about his place in a world powered by energy he barely understood.

One day, he realized, he would master this energy fully. One day, he might even walk the streets like the Wardens, protecting those around him.

For now, he was a boy with yellow energy in his hands, learning the first lessons of a life that would become anything but ordinary.
