Chapter 3 - Welcome to UA High!

The exam was quite uneventful from my perspective. First, I used a jump to climb atop a building, followed by using a portal to get to the center.

I could use my hand for the strike, but I needed to be smart about this. Using a blade was better for both efficiency and effectiveness. But since we couldn't bring any other items, I searched the buildings.

Most were empty, but some had bare bones furniture. I found a metal table and cut off one of its legs using the slash. Now I had a weapon.

From there, it was a series of jumps followed by Axis Strikes against the robots. I remembered Izuku scoring 60 to pass. I aimed for 70 to seal the deal.

Me, and a few other speed types had already started the battle long before the rest arrived. I even had 12 points under my belt. I had tried rescuing people with Axis Jump. (Portal took time to create depending on distance, accuracy, and familiarity.)

Some thanked me, while others cursed. My judgment of others' abilities had gone awry once or twice, due to which they cursed me out for stealing their kills. At that point, I stopped my quest for rescue points. They were turning out to be too much of a hassle.

But one thing was certain. I hadn't been in the same group as Izuku Midoriya.

"huff! Puff!" I panted. That was point number 34. I was halfway through. That's when Disaster struck. A fifty-meter-tall giant robot suddenly sprang up a few hundred meters to my left. But to my absolute horror, it was moving towards me.

I helped a few trapped students before going off to another side. I could not blow it away as Izuku Midoriya (Deku) could. So I simply focused on points.

I searched for various 3-pointers. Since it was as easy to cut into any of the robots using jump for mobility and strike for offense. Might as well expend the effort to higher value targets.

I stopped at 63 points in combat. because of exhaustion. But now I knew that I was in a different exam center than Midoriya and Ochako. Since the giant monstrosity was still roaming around, causing trouble for the examinees. I stopped to take a look around.

After all, it was not every day you stood atop a controlled battlefield. The wanton use of quirks felt like an incredibly destructive dance happening without true control. But before I could savor it for long, the buzzer rang, and the test concluded.

My family sat around the table as we all glared at the projection disk in the middle. The results had come.

My father slowly extended his hand and pushed the button.

"I AM HERE!!"

The sudden voice startled me, and I almost dropped the envelope I had been holding.

The figure crossed his arms proudly.

"But why am I here you ask? Well Congratulations, along with the chance of learning at the finest Hero course in the world, you shall have the privilege of being taught at school by the top hero of this nation! As starting this year, I will be returning to my Alma Mater U.A. High as a teacher."

My breath caught. Even though I knew the story to some extent. Even though I knew the results of the exam. This legendary moment still touched my heart and brought goosebumps to my skin. It felt surreal.

"Yes, this is real young Jin. Congratulations Jin! You have made it! From this moment on, you are officially a student of U.A. High. Welcome to your Hero Academia!"

For a moment, no one spoke.

Then my father let out a slow breath, my sister's eyes widened, and my heart began to pound like it was trying to escape my chest.

"Well done, Jin! You have made us proud!"

"We should go out and celebrate!"

"I want Ice cream!"

"Congratulate your brother first, Yui!"

She made a pout and drawled. "Fine! Congratulations! Can we go now?"

We all laughed.

UA looked more like a modern, stylish business center than a school. But hey, I wasn't going to complain. As I walked through the pristine corridors, I caught sight of, or I suppose didn't catch sight of, Toru Hagakure and her gloves.

She was accompanying a cute frog-faced girl that I assumed was Asui, who later became Froppy.

I followed the two of them to arrive at class 1A. I was excited to be here and curious to see who in the golden twenty I had gotten kicked out.

But I didn't need to wait for an answer. Just till roll call.

As I entered and found a seat towards the back, I started recognizing the people in the room. I didn't interact much and plopped down next to Kyoka Jiro, who was listening to music.

Soon, Midoriya entered with Ochako, and I recognized the diligent Tenya Iida. Slowly, the awkwardness started melting, and everyone started discussing the school, the exam, and everything in between.

I wanted to join in, too, but Jiro didn't seem interested in giving up her music, and in front of me sat Koji Koda, who was so shy that he rarely answered with more than one word to anything I said.

Suddenly, the dead cocoon lying on the floor opened up, and our homeroom teacher emerged.

"Put these on and let's go!"

Where the hell did he pull those uniforms from? Was he keeping them in his sleeping bag? How? Anyways. Onto the next thing.

The tests.

"I will send the last student back home!"

"What?"

"Really?"

"Can he do that?"

The students were now terrified of their new, ruthless instructor. The relaxing orientation had turned into survival mode.

While everyone panicked, my gaze settled on Yaoyorozu. I was taking her quirk for the versatility and raw firepower that I lacked. And what better way to learn about her quirk than to learn from the original herself?

Sensing my lingering gaze, she suddenly spun.

I didn't turn away. That would make me look creepy or suspicious. So I faked a look as if my meeting her gaze was just a coincidence.

When she kept on staring at me suspiciously, I feigned confusion and looked around, then met her gaze and waved with uncertainty as if confirming that I was the one she was looking at.

That did it. She shrugged and focused on Aizawa.
