Chapter 20 - whisper of a knife - chapter 20

The chamber shook with tension as Elias raised his jagged blade, its whisper shrieking like broken glass. The Circle erupted in chaos — some members drew their knives, others hesitated, torn between loyalty and doubt.

Grace Johnson stepped forward, her knife steady, its hum calm but resolute. "You betrayed us, Elias. You chose silence over truth."

Elias's smile was cold. "No, Grace. I chose freedom. And tonight, I'll show them what freedom feels like."

He lunged, his blade slicing through the air. Grace met him head-on, steel clashing in a storm of whispers. Sparks flew, the resonance shaking the lantern light.

Armand's blade pulsed in his grip, the darker whisper urging him forward. Strike. End him. Trust no one.

He hesitated, torn between the Circle's faith and the whisper's command. Around him, members shouted, knives humming in discord. The Circle was fracturing, its unity splintering under the weight of betrayal.

Grace's voice cut through the chaos. "Armand! Choose!"

The hum of his blade surged, louder than ever. He stepped forward, joining Grace, their whispers resonating together. The clash with Elias intensified, the chamber echoing with the sound of steel and voices.

And as the battle raged, Armand realized the truth: this was no longer just a war against the Severed Tongues. It was a war for the soul of the Circle itself.
