Chapter 1 - first chapter

Sorry Dear

Page 1 – The Beginning of a Friendship

In a small college town, there lived a cheerful girl named Ananya and a quiet boy named Arif. They were part of a close friend circle of six people. Every afternoon after class, they would sit under the big banyan tree near the playground, sharing jokes, stories, and dreams.

Ananya was the heart of the group. Her laughter could brighten even the darkest day. Arif, on the other hand, was calm and thoughtful. He didn't speak much, but when he did, everyone listened.

Over time, Arif began to feel something different. Whenever Ananya smiled at him or called his name, his heart beat faster. He tried to ignore it at first. "We are just friends," he told himself.

But deep inside, he knew — he was falling in love.

Days turned into months. Their friendship grew stronger. They studied together, walked home together, and shared secrets no one else knew.

One rainy afternoon, the whole group got stuck in the classroom because of heavy rain. Everyone was laughing and taking pictures. Ananya suddenly slipped on the wet floor, and Arif quickly held her hand to stop her from falling.

For a moment, they looked into each other's eyes.

Something changed that day.

Arif realized his feelings were real. It wasn't just a small crush. He truly loved her. But he was afraid. What if telling her destroyed their friendship? What if the friend circle broke apart?

So he stayed silent.

One evening, Arif couldn't hold his feelings anymore. He asked Ananya to meet him near the lake where their group often spent time.

The sunset painted the sky orange and pink. Arif's hands were shaking.

"Ananya… I need to tell you something," he said softly.

She smiled. "Why are you so serious?"

Arif took a deep breath. "I like you. Not just as a friend. I think… I love you."

The smile slowly faded from her face. She looked surprised and confused.

"Arif… I never thought about you that way," she said gently. "You are very important to me. But only as a friend."

Arif felt his heart break, but he nodded. He forced a small smile.

"I understand."

After that day, things were not the same. Arif became quiet again, even quieter than before. He stopped coming to the banyan tree meetings. The friend circle felt incomplete.

Ananya felt guilty. She missed their talks and his silent support. She didn't want to lose him.

One day, she found him sitting alone in the library.

"Why are you avoiding us?" she asked.

"I'm not," he replied.

"You are," she said softly. "And I miss my friend."

Arif looked at her. His eyes showed pain but also care.

"I never wanted to make things awkward," he said. "I'm sorry… dear."

The words slipped out naturally — "Sorry dear."

Ananya smiled sadly. "You don't have to say sorry. Feelings aren't wrong."

Time passed. Slowly, Arif returned to the group. It wasn't easy, but he learned to control his emotions. He chose friendship over distance.

Ananya also became more careful and kind toward him. Their bond became mature — deeper than before, though different.

Arif realized something important: Love is not always about being together. Sometimes, it is about caring silently and respecting someone's feelings.

On the last day of college, the whole group gathered under the banyan tree one final time. They laughed, cried, and promised to stay connected forever.

As they were leaving, Ananya turned to Arif and said, "Thank you for being such a good friend."

Arif smiled peacefully.

Inside his heart, the pain had softened into a beautiful memory.

And though his love story didn't end the way he imagined, he learned the greatest lesson of all —

Sometimes, the bravest words are simply, "Sorry dear"
