Chapter 1 - My Necromancer System

Logan Smith was a shut-in who lived alone at a apartment complex full of people he never tried to talk to. He never cared about social interactions, as he was always busy doing his hobbies, whether it was gaming or binge watching some series.

He was Twenty-one, enrolled in an online college, so he never had to meet people in real life. He had dated before but nothing worked out in the end and here he was scrolling through his phone at afternoon in his room while waiting for a match of Valorant to start, a game where he could express himself freely without caring about what other people think.

'Bro you joining today?' Logan typed and sent a message.

'No bro, I have a date today, catch you later', other person replied quickly.

It was his online friend who was also a shut-in like him but today his friend was going on a date while Logan sat in his room doing nothing productive.

"I need to get my life together."

He thought about his life for a second but then the game started.

As he was shooting people in game out of frustration of not getting anywhere in life, his phone buzzed.

He checked the notification, it was his landlord asking for rent that was due.

"And I need to get a job ASAP, I can't just ask for money from my parents every month." Logan muttered.

His parents helped him with his rent while he struggled to meet end's meet doing freelancing work as a coder.

He was lost in thought thinking about what he was gonna do when suddenly someone banged his door.

Bang! Bang!

"Hey, I'll get your rent, no need to do this". Logan said, walking to the door, as he thought it was his landlord outside his door to collect the rent himself even thought he just pinged him on mobile.

He opened the door.

It wasn't his landlord, it was his next door neighbor, Julia.

Julia was a mature lady who lived next door with her husband, she was a little older than Logan's mother by the looks.

"Logan, please help my husband!" Julia begged, she was panicking.

"Hey, Julia, calm down, what happened?" Logan asked trying to calm down Julia.

Then suddenly someone cried from the street. Their apartment complex had balcony outside the rooms.

Logan lived on First Floor, he quickly got to balcony railing and looked down on the street.

What he saw was really unusual for a normal afternoon, he saw hordes of people running through street, but these people looked bloody and had weird walk, people attacking each other, some used melee weapons to hit other people, some just ran.

While looking at the massacre happening below, Logan noticed the people that were getting attacked by melee weapons weren't normal people.

"Wait, are they fucking Zombies?" Logan asked like there was gonna be an answer for what he was looking at.

"That's what I came to tell you Logan, my husband left to get some bread and then suddenly these people showed up and now I cannot reach him over the cell phone." Julia cried pressing tightly into Logan in fear.

"Calm down, Julia, I'm sure there is some explanation for this." Logan tried comforting Julia.

While they stood there pressed tightly into each other, someone cried out on street, a guy that looked like those zombies from movies and TV shows, bit a lady on her neck.

"Oh God!", the lady cried out as blood gushed out from the bite, the zombie didn't stop, it kept on eating her flesh like he was starving.

The cries were unbearable, Julia hid her face into Logan's chest as she couldn't able to see the gore.

It was really a Zombie Apocalypse, the same thing Logan had seen countless times on screen, it was really here.

But unlike other people, he was prepared for it, he used to pray for these times so he wouldn't have to live a responsible and normal life doing jobs, marriages and what other normal people did in life.

"Julia, let me close the main door." Logan said pushing Julia away gently and moving towards the stairs of their apartment complex building which had a main door, there was no elevator in their building, this door was the only way for someone to enter and exit the building.

He knew zombies couldn't open the doors, not like normal people anyway.

He quickly closed the door and now he knew at least the building was secure for now.

"Logan, Help" Julia cried out as he was returning after closing the door.

He rushed to her and saw a zombie had already gotten in building and had Julia pinned down. It might have walked into building before Julia came to ask Logan for help and probably was wandering in stairs to upper floors.

Julia was trying to defend herself on floor while zombie hovered over her trying to get a bite.

Suddenly something flashed in Logan's eyes and he couldn't see clearly, he rubbed his eyes as it was really necessary for him to see right now to help save Julia.

"Logan!" Julia cried again, she couldn't hold off the zombie anymore.

Logan looked at Julia struggling but everything looked blurry to him, then suddenly he could see clear, he saw text floating in front of him, hovering in his eyes.

[Necromancer System Initiating]

[Compatible Host Found]

[Accept the system to gain ability to control the dead]

[Do you accept the system?]

[Yes/No]

"What the hell is this?" Logan yelled as his head was hurting due to sudden messages in his head.

"Logan, Oh God" Julia yelled as zombie was almost closer to her face biting on nothing.

System pinged again.

[Do you accept the system?]

[Yes/No]

"Yes, I accept it, make it stop now."

[Necromancer System Initiation Successful]

[Aim sight at Dead Target]

[Current Capacity: 1]

System wanted Logan to look and aim his eyes at the target, Logan quickly looked at the zombie that was about to eat Julia.

Suddenly zombie stiffened, Julia still cried under it as she couldn't bear the weight of it any longer.

As Logan started approaching Julia to get the zombie away from him, the zombie stood up and stood straight without making any movement.

"What is he doing?" Julia said in astonishment.

[Target Acquired]

[You can now successfully control target]

"Wait, I can control him?" Logan asked looking at the hovering window. Julia looked at Logan getting up, not able to grasp what he was doing talking to himself.

[Target can be ordered now]

Logan thought about it for a second.

"Jump over that railing onto the street." Logan tried ordering the zombie, while looking at it.

Zombie didn't even wait a second, and quickly rushed to the railing and took a jump, it dropped on his head and just died splashing it's brains out.

Logan and Julia who watched everything from above looked at each other to gather what the hell just happened.
