Chapter 5 - Ch 5- Civil Engineering

It turns out that knowing how to cook is indeed very important.

Relying on his cooking skills, which rivaled those of a Special Grade Chef, Cain successfully integrated into Ais's team.

"Cain, what did you do before?"

"Civil Engineering."

"What is Civil Engineering?"

It was the first time Lefia had heard the term.

Cain organized his thoughts: "Civil Engineering is a general term for the construction of various land engineering facilities. A civil engineer needs to learn surveying, design, construction, maintenance, and repair, and master professional knowledge in architectural structures and materials."

"Uh, I don't quite get it."

Tiona's eyes started spinning.

"You mean the kind of worker who builds houses and city walls, right?"

Tione caught the gist of it.

"You could say that. Back in my country, I was also a highly valued talent. I passed the interview in three minutes to become an intern, and a bunch of leaders came to me every day for my signature."

"Unfortunately, my heart wasn't in it. Later, I quit Civil Engineering and switched to being a chef, which is why my cooking is so good."

At this point, Cain's expression was a bit nostalgic.

Although there were some fabricated elements, most of what he said was true.

When he was in university, he followed his family's advice and majored in Civil Engineering. There were thirty people in his class.

Before graduation, ten people jumped ship to become Coders.

A month after graduation, another fifteen people switched to other industries.

As for the remaining five, because of their outstanding performance, they were given important roles and immediately secured a government job.

"Since you switched to being a chef, what's up with that swordsmanship you showed earlier?"

Lefia noticed a blind spot.

When Cain was slaying those Goblins, he clearly wasn't swinging his sword randomly.

She could see that it was professionally trained swordsmanship specifically for dealing with monsters.

"You aren't making up stories to trick us, are you?"

Tiona cast a suspicious look at Cain.

To this, Cain smiled calmly.

"I'm not lying, let me explain slowly."

"In the country where I used to live, the development of culinary culture far surpassed the surrounding nations."

"However, because of this advanced development, the chefs' philosophies diverged into two factions."

"Among them, the chefs belonging to the Dark Cooking Society are beings who have received the blessing of an Evil God."

"Relying on their great strength, they often initiate Food Wars to force others to eat the food they make."

"That food is highly addictive; once eaten, one will be controlled and lose their sense of self."

"To protect myself, I became a disciple of the legendary Demon Slayer Corps and learned this swordsmanship there."

"You've had it rough too."

Tiona was deeply shocked after hearing this.

Having been in Orario for so long, she had seen all kinds of bad people.

But using addictive food to control others—this was the first time she had heard of such a thing.

"Demon Slayer Corps..."

Beside Tiona, Ais was lost in thought.

Compared to Cain's experience of battling wits and courage with the Dark Cooking Society, she was more interested in his swordsmanship.

Although Cain's battle with the Goblins was very brief, Ais noticed something.

When Cain activated that swordsmanship, his physical attributes underwent a leap in improvement within a short period.

During this process, no fluctuations of magic power appeared on Cain's body.

In other words, Cain's method of improving his physical attributes was not magic, but a special technique.

As long as she mastered the method, she could learn it too.

Of course, Ais still had some self-awareness.

Special techniques like this, which could make one stronger without consuming magic power, were core secrets no matter where they were.

Keeping the name 'Demon Slayer Corps' in mind, she planned to go back and ask Loki about it in a few days.

"I've reached my destination."

Just then, Cain's voice rang out again.

"You're going to grind monsters on the eighth floor?"

Tiona felt somewhat surprised.

With the strength Cain had shown before, it wouldn't be a problem for him even if he went to the tenth or eleventh floor.

"Since it's my first time in the Dungeon, I won't go too deep; I plan to adapt on the eighth floor first."

Seemingly seeing Tiona's confusion, Cain explained.

"This is your first time in the Dungeon?"

Tiona was even more surprised now.

"No wonder you were fighting Goblins earlier; I thought you had some special hobby."

Lefia realized suddenly.

She had been fooled by Cain's act of fighting Goblins earlier, which was why she wanted to help.

"If it's your first time in the Dungeon, it's indeed not suitable to go too deep."

Tione also agreed with Cain's approach.

Strength and experience are two different things.

As a monster den that constantly generates monsters, the deeper one goes into the Dungeon, the more complex the terrain becomes.

Taking the eighth floor as an example, starting from the eighth floor, the scenery and terrain of the Dungeon undergo significant changes.

The number of rooms increases significantly, the ceiling height rises from the original 3 to 4 meters to nearly 10 meters, and the ground turns into a plain covered with short grass.

As for the monsters, although the types of monsters appearing haven't changed, both Goblins and Kobolds appear in a stronger state.

In addition, the frequency of new types of magic beasts that began appearing from the sixth floor will increase significantly on the eighth floor.

Acting alone, if one isn't familiar with the terrain and the characteristics of the monsters on each floor, it's very possible to fail in an inconspicuous place.

"In that case, we'll be going now."

Lefia waved goodbye.

Their goal for this trip was the thirty-seventh floor.

That was the starting point of the Deep Floors, a hell for ordinary adventurers.

Even with three Level 5s leading the way, it was impossible to take a Level 1 there; that would be murder.

"See you later."

Cain bid farewell to Tiona and the others and walked alone toward the room on the other side.

According to the plan he had made in advance, he cleared the monsters in three rooms along the way.

Finally, in the fourth room, he found his target, the Killer Ants.

Seeing Cain appear, the five Killer Ants in the room immediately launched an attack on him.

Cain didn't hesitate either; he drew his blade and slashed four of them to death, leaving one half-dead and tied up with a rope to take to another spacious room.

"Now, it's up to your performance."

As a new type of monster appearing from the seventh floor, Killer Ants and War Shadows are known as Rookie Killers.

However, unlike War Shadows, which closely resemble humans and excel at speed attacks and ambushes...

Killer Ants are called Rookie Killers because when they fall into a near-death state, they emit a special pheromone.

This pheromone has an extremely strong transmission effect and can send a distress signal to surrounding Killer Ants.

For ordinary adventurers, the Killer Ant's ability to summon companions is quite dangerous; one can easily fall into an encirclement if not careful.

Just like now, Cain threw the heavily injured Killer Ant on the ground, and in less than twenty seconds, seven or eight new Killer Ants appeared from another passage.

"They sure came quickly."

Cain drew his weapon and walked toward them.

Everything is ready; tonight, I'll hunt to my heart's content!
