🌌 STARLOST

Episode 17 — "The Girl Behind the Signal"

THE MORNING AFTER

Morning.

The city is alive again.

Traffic moves. Shops open. People return to the streets.

But nobody is behaving normally.

Every television channel is showing the same footage:

The crack in the sky.

The enormous hand.

The golden light.

And one mysterious boy standing beneath it.

Nova.

Inside Aira's bedroom—

Aira is sitting on her bed, staring at her palm.

The golden symbol has disappeared.

Mostly.

A faint outline remains.

She rubs it with her thumb.

Nothing happens.

"Great. Even my mysterious cosmic tattoo has decided to be lazy."

Her phone vibrates.

NOVA: Are you awake?

Aira types.

AIRA: No. I'm replying in my sleep.

Three seconds later—

NOVA: That seems unlikely.

Aira smiles.

AIRA: Rooftop. Ten minutes.

NOVA: Why?

AIRA: Because apparently we're saving the universe and you still need to learn how conversations work.

THE STUDENT

At school—

The atmosphere is different.

Students whisper whenever Nova walks past.

Some recognize him from the worldwide transmission.

Others simply stare.

Aira walks beside him, eating a sandwich.

"Congratulations. You're officially more popular than the school captain."

Nova looks around.

"Why?"

"Because you stood in front of an apocalypse."

"I didn't stop it."

"Details."

Then Nova suddenly stops.

Across the corridor—

The mysterious student from Episode 13 stands near the classroom window.

Same quiet expression.

Same unfamiliar presence.

Nova recognizes him immediately.

The student looks at Nova.

Then at Aira.

His eyes widen.

He quickly looks down at his hand.

A faint symbol glows beneath his sleeve.

Nova approaches.

"Wait."

The student turns.

For a moment, neither speaks.

Then the student whispers—

"You're Astra."

Nova freezes.

Aira looks between them.

"Okay. Do you two know each other?"

"No," Nova answers.

The student shakes his head.

"I've never met him."

He looks directly at Nova.

"But I've been dreaming about him."

THE NAME WITHOUT A MEMORY

The three sit in an empty classroom.

Aira closes the door.

"Let's start with something simple. What's your name?"

The student hesitates.

"Ren."

"Okay, Ren. Why do you know Nova's alien name?"

Ren looks at his palm.

"I don't know."

Nova leans forward.

"What do you remember?"

Ren takes a breath.

"A room. White walls. A voice. And someone telling me not to open a door."

Aira raises an eyebrow.

"That sounds like a very unpleasant dream."

"It wasn't a dream."

Ren looks at her.

"I remember waking up with this."

He shows them his hand.

The symbol is almost identical to Aira's.

Almost.

Nova studies it.

"Your symbol is incomplete."

Ren looks confused.

"What does that mean?"

Before Nova can answer—

Aira's palm begins glowing.

Ren's symbol responds.

Both lights pulse together.

And suddenly—

A voice fills the classroom.

Not from the speakers.

From inside their minds.

THREE SIGNALS DETECTED.

Nova stands.

"Three?"

Aira looks at him.

"Wait. Who's the third?"

Every window in the classroom turns black.

A new message appears across the glass.

THE FIRST LIGHT HAS CHOSEN ITS WITNESSES.

Then the lights go out.

THE BLACK SPHERE'S MESSAGE

Outside the school—

The black sphere rises from the field.

Its surface rotates.

Golden lines spread across its body, forming a map.

But this time, the map isn't showing stars.

It's showing Earth.

Three locations begin glowing.

One beneath the ocean.

One somewhere in the mountains.

And one directly beneath the school.

Nova stares at the display.

"The signals are connected."

Aira looks at the ground.

"Under our school?"

Ren steps backward.

"No. That's not possible."

Nova turns toward him.

"Why?"

Ren's expression changes.

"Because I've seen that place."

He points toward the school basement.

"I've been there."

BELOW THE SCHOOL

The basement door is locked.

Aira examines it.

"Does anyone have a key?"

Nova touches the metal.

The lock clicks.

Aira looks at him.

"Could you please stop making normal problems look embarrassing?"

They descend.

The basement is darker than it should be.

Old furniture.

Broken equipment.

Dusty storage boxes.

Nothing unusual.

Until Ren stops.

At the far end of the room—

A wall has no dust.

Nova places his hand against it.

A golden symbol appears.

The wall separates.

Behind it lies a hidden chamber.

Inside—

Three empty chairs.

A circular machine.

And a photograph.

Aira picks it up.

Her expression changes.

The photograph shows three people standing in front of the machine.

One is a man.

One is a woman.

And the third—

is a little girl.

Aira.

She stares at the photograph.

"That's..."

Nova approaches.

"Do you recognize them?"

Aira's voice becomes quiet.

"I've never seen this picture."

She turns it over.

Written on the back:

PROJECT STARLOST — SUBJECT ZERO.

Below it is another line.

DO NOT ALLOW HER TO REMEMBER.

THE VOICE IN THE MACHINE

The circular machine suddenly activates.

A hologram appears.

A woman.

Her face is damaged by interference.

But her voice is clear.

"If you're seeing this, the first seal has failed."

Nova steps closer.

"Who are you?"

The hologram doesn't respond to him.

Instead, it looks toward Aira.

"My little star..."

Aira stops breathing for a moment.

The woman continues.

"I'm sorry."

The image flickers.

"We couldn't protect you from what was coming."

Aira takes a step forward.

"Who are you?"

The hologram raises one hand.

Behind her, a strange image appears:

A child standing inside a chamber of golden light.

Nova recognizes the chamber.

His memory.

The woman speaks again.

"The boy was created to carry the First Light."

The image changes.

A little girl appears beside him.

"But the girl..."

The hologram glitches.

"...was created to remember it."

Nova's eyes widen.

Aira looks at him.

"Remember what?"

The machine suddenly flashes red.

WARNING: MEMORY SEAL BREACH.

The hologram's voice becomes distorted.

"If the two keys meet, the door will open."

A final message appears.

DO NOT LET THE DEVOURER FIND THE ORIGINAL MEMORY.

The machine shuts down.

Silence.

Aira slowly lowers the photograph.

"Nova..."

He looks at her.

"Yes?"

"Why does a secret underground laboratory have a photograph of me as a child?"

Nova has no answer.

For once, neither does Ren.

SOMETHING WAKES UP

Far beneath the ocean—

A massive structure begins glowing.

Its surface is covered in symbols identical to the ones on Nova, Aira, and Ren.

Inside the structure—

A single light awakens.

A voice speaks.

"Two keys have been found."

Another voice answers.

"And the third?"

A pause.

"Still sleeping."

The structure begins to open.

But something is already inside.

Something that has been waiting for a very long time.

A screen illuminates.

ORIGINAL MEMORY: LOCATED.

THREE PEOPLE, ONE TERRIBLE SECRET

Back in the hidden chamber—

Aira sits on one of the chairs.

Nova stands beside her.

Ren studies the machine.

Aira looks at Nova.

"So, let me understand."

She counts on her fingers.

"You're an alien key. I'm apparently a memory storage device. And Ren is..."

Ren looks up.

"I don't know."

Aira nods.

"Excellent. Very reassuring team."

Nova examines the photograph again.

"Your past was hidden deliberately."

Aira looks down.

"Maybe someone thought it was safer that way."

Nova sits beside her.

"Would you want to remember?"

She thinks for a moment.

"Yes."

Then she looks at him.

"But not if remembering means losing everything I have now."

Nova understands.

He looks at her hand.

The golden symbol has returned.

This time, it is brighter.

Ren suddenly steps away from the machine.

"Something's wrong."

The machine activates again.

A new symbol appears.

Not golden.

Not black.

White.

Nova immediately stands.

The black sphere rises through the basement floor.

Its voice echoes through the chamber.

ASTRA.

Nova turns.

SECOND KEY.

Aira's symbol glows.

Then—

WITNESS.

Ren's eyes widen.

His palm begins shining.

Three symbols appear together.

For the first time, the sphere displays a complete image.

Three children.

Standing before an enormous door.

And behind that door—

A light is slowly going out.

A final message appears:

THE FIRST LIGHT DID NOT CREATE TWO KEYS.

The message disappears.

A second one replaces it.

IT CREATED THREE.

ENDING — THE THIRD KEY

Far away, aboard the alien Ascension Vessel—

The Commander receives the transmission.

He stares at the screen.

His hands begin trembling.

A scientist approaches.

"Sir? What happened?"

The Commander doesn't answer immediately.

Then he whispers:

"Find the third key."

"Who is it?"

The Commander looks at the image of Ren.

And for the first time—

he looks genuinely afraid.

"Someone we believed had been erased."

The screen changes.

A new location appears.

DESTINATION: EARTH.

TARGET: REN.

END OF EPISODE 17

🌌 NEXT EPISODE: "THE ONE WHO WAS ERASED"
