Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 : The Price of a Bowl of Ramen

Damien opened the door to the hospital room and saw a middle-aged man with a few gray hairs on his head lying on a hospital bed. Damien then sat down on the chair, where Burneo was still unconscious. His gaze fell on the wilted lavender flowers in the vase.

Immediately, Damien replaced them with the roses in his hand. A fleeting memory of Burneo and his son flashed through Damien's mind. "You know, Burneo. I am 150 years old. Appearing in this human world was not part of my destiny. But I have no choice but to continue my life." Damien then sighed deeply. "Get well soon."

Suddenly, a woman entered the room with a smile. "Wow, you're recovering faster than I expected," said the nurse.

"Yes, you're right." That's because we are different people, Damien thought to himself.

"I'll go check on the other patients first." Seeing the nurse attach what he knew to be an IV reminded Damien of yesterday's events. Remembering that, Damien snorted coldly. Did that thing really take away his powers? Or had he lost his powers since coming to this world?

Damien then shook his head. No, that couldn't be true. How could something like medicine reduce his powers? Something must have changed in him. The nurse then said goodbye as she left the room.

Damien pulled the corners of his lips as he said, "All right, Father. I will pay for your medical expenses and restore my glory to be better than yours."

...

Damien decided to contact Yuki first. Several times, even though Damien already knew the function of an object or term from the memories of the body's owner, he had a little trouble remembering its name. Like when playing with the flat object that could communicate.

Damien then left the hospital while swiping his cell phone screen. Damien then sat on a chair in the hospital garden while watching the elderly people doing strange movements accompanied by music.

"What are they doing there?" Damien muttered in confusion. If he had to spend his time like this, then it was not good at all.

Suddenly a man appeared in front of Damien with a microphone in his hand, followed by a group of people in front of him. "Excuse me, Damien, can you spare a moment for us?" said the man.

Does this mean Damien is being followed? Damien was nervous, but they blocked his way to leave the crowd.

"Yes, viewers, I'm Nathan from BCCN News, and with me is Damien... the son of the GW Groups company. What is your response to the accident that befell you and your father? Is it true that it has something to do with the emergence of your father's company's competitors?"

"Damien... Please look here, we have heard that the bank has seized your father's company assets. Is that true? What is your response to this situation?"

"Damien... how is Burneo doing right now? Can you explain it to us?"

Damien felt uncomfortable and wanted to get rid of the object that was shining light into his eyes. Their gaze and stare seemed to be waiting and looking down on him. Damien's anger grew. "I-I..."

They were all pests, and Damien wanted to destroy them all. However, Damien couldn't do that in this world. With a little effort, Damien managed to get away from the crowd. He then ran away from the reporters.

Damien truly felt he was at his lowest point right now. He had never been treated this badly before. One day, Damien would turn this lowest point into the highest point of being the most feared person in the world. Suddenly, Damien's stomach growled; he was hungry right now. But he had no money.

Damien's footsteps stopped in front of a restaurant. He was torn between wanting to work at the restaurant or having to endure his hunger. With no other choice, Damien entered the restaurant. He then spoke to the waitress.

"Can you give me a plate of food? I want to work here for a day." Damien looked away.

The waitress smiled. "Yes, we think we have a job for you right now. Come with me."

Damien followed the woman and saw a pile of dirty dishes in the sink. Damien knew he had seen the waitress who gave him food clean up food scraps. And now he had to do it.

"Can you clean these dirty dishes? I'll give you the rest of your pay once you're done." The waitress then left.

Damien sighed heavily. He then put on an apron, took some soap, and started cleaning the dirty dishes. Among them was a chef who then placed more dishes on Damien.

"Hey, buddy. Your phone is ringing," said a chef to his friend.

"Ah, you're right. Thank you. Hello, Mom. How are you?"

"..."

Damien quietly listened to the family's conversation while washing the ever-increasing pile of dishes.

"Thank God. Yes, you know Lydia is pregnant right now, Mom. So, I've been a little tired lately. And maybe I'll send Bianca some money for her education. But you have to warn her to be frugal, Mom, my expenses are ballooning."

"..."

Suddenly, a loud voice startled Damien. Luckily, he quickly grabbed the dishes.

"Hey, damn it. You think I pay you to talk on the phone? Get to work!"

"Wait, Mom. Yes, thank you, Mom. I'll take care of myself. You take care of yourself too. Ah, yes, I want that boy to look after my dog Ziggy, make sure he takes care of him. If not, I'll stop giving him money."

"..."

"All right, all right. See you later, Mom."

After finishing the dishes, Damien took off his apron.

"Hey, buddy? Where are you from, new guy?" A middle-aged man with a thick mustache approached Damien.

"Me? I'm just a freelancer."

"That's not important. I mean, why did you decide to work here?"

"To fill my stomach."

Damien looked at the man and sighed heavily. Damien then headed for the kitchen door to ask for his pay.

"You know there are many jobs other than being a dishwasher here, man! Come back if you need other work," said Werok, raising his voice slightly.

Damien waved his hand without looking back.....

"Here you go. The best Ramen bonus from our restaurant!" exclaimed the waitress with a smile. Damien looked at the food on the table. Damien then thanked the waitress who gave him the rest of his salary.

Not yet, but soon Damien would find his success. Damien then ate the food heartily. He suddenly coughed and immediately drank the water until it was gone.

After finishing, Damien immediately left the restaurant. He remembered Yuki, hoping that she could help him find a job at this time. Damien then headed home by bus. Little by little, Damien's understanding of the human world began to dawn on him.
