Chapter 1 - “Jealousy and Forgiveness”

Once upon a time, there was a powerful king named Amar Singh. He had two queens—Queen Suryamukhi, the first queen, and Queen Chandralekha, the second queen. Suryamukhi was calm, patient, and loved by the people. Chandralekha was very beautiful and intelligent, but she had a little pride in her heart.

King Amar Singh always gave more time and attention to Chandralekha. In the royal court, at festivals, and even during hunting trips, he took her with him. This hurt Suryamukhi deeply. She never complained openly, but her silent tears spoke of her pain.

Gradually, unrest grew in the palace. The servants also divided into two groups—some supported Suryamukhi, others supported Chandralekha. The king noticed the tension but did not take it seriously. He thought it was just simple jealousy that would fade with time.

But it was not so simple.

Chandralekha slowly realized that although the king loved her, the ministers and the people respected Suryamukhi more. Fear and insecurity grew in her heart. What if one day the king changed his mind? What if Suryamukhi became his favorite again?

This fear made her harsh. She tried harder to keep the king close and often made small complaints against Suryamukhi. Sometimes she said, "My lord, the first queen does not respect you." At other times, she accused her of plotting against him.

The king became confused and gradually distanced himself from Suryamukhi. Her sorrow deepened.

One stormy night, with lightning flashing across the sky, a terrible decision formed in Chandralekha's mind. She thought, "If the king is gone, all my problems will end. I will be the only ruler."

Blinded by anger and fear, she walked through a secret passage toward the king's chamber, holding a sharp knife. But as she reached the door, she stopped. She heard the king speaking inside.

The king was saying to himself, "Am I making a mistake? I see Suryamukhi's tears, yet I ignore them. Am I being unfair by loving Chandralekha more?"

Hearing this, Chandralekha's hand trembled. She realized the king was not cruel. It was her own jealousy and fear that had blinded her.

Suddenly the door opened. The king saw her standing there with the knife and was shocked. Yet he did not grow angry. Calmly he asked, "My queen, are you in so much pain?"

Chandralekha broke down in tears and confessed everything. Realizing her mistake, she fell at the king's feet. At that moment, Suryamukhi also arrived and heard everything. Instead of anger, she embraced Chandralekha.

She said, "If we treat each other as enemies, the kingdom will be destroyed. We must live together in harmony."

That very night, the king decided he would no longer show favoritism. He would give equal respect and love to both queens. Slowly, peace returned to the palace.

Chandralekha learned that love cannot be forced; it must be earned through trust and respect. And Suryamukhi proved that forgiveness is the greatest strength.

From then on, peace returned to the kingdom. People would say, "A kingdom built on justice and forgiveness can never be destroyed."
