Chapter 1:
The sky over Siliguri felt strangely heavy that day. Dark clouds covered the entire sky, as if it had been holding back all its sadness before the rain finally began.
A cool evening breeze entered through the window. Arnav was sitting beside it, staring quietly outside. An open diary lay in front of him, but he had not written anything for a long time.
His eyes kept drifting toward the sky.
Rain had always been his favorite. Since childhood, whenever it rained, he would sit by the window and listen to the soft sound of raindrops. But today's rain felt different—unusually heavy and strangely silent.
Suddenly, a flash of lightning lit up the sky.
Moments later, large drops of rain began to fall. Within minutes, the rain grew so strong that it drowned out the sounds of the street.
Arnav slowly closed his diary.
For some reason, his heart felt heavy that day. He had a strange feeling that something in his life was about to change.
He picked up his bag and stepped outside.
The moment he reached the street, the cold wind brushed against his face. Water had already begun collecting along the road. People were running for shelter—some under shop roofs, some opening their umbrellas and walking quickly through the rain.
Arnav walked faster until he reached a nearby bus stop.
The rain hitting the tin roof created a steady rhythm. He stood there quietly, watching the rain fall endlessly.
That was when he noticed he was not alone.
A girl was standing at one corner of the bus stop. She was holding a blue umbrella. Under the umbrella, she stood silently, watching the rain as if she were lost in some distant thought.
The wind gently moved her hair.
Without realizing it, Arnav looked at her for a few seconds.
Suddenly, the girl turned her head toward him. Their eyes met for a brief moment.
Then she smiled.
But there was something tired and sad hidden inside that smile.
"It looks like the rain won't stop anytime soon today," she said softly.
Arnav paused before replying.
"Maybe… today the rain wants to say something."
The girl stayed quiet for a moment. Then she said slowly,
"Some rains don't just make you wet… they leave memories behind."
Arnav felt slightly surprised by her words. She was a stranger, yet her voice carried a strange depth.
After a moment of silence, the girl moved her umbrella slightly toward him.
"You can stand a little closer if you want," she said. "Otherwise you'll get soaked."
Arnav hesitated for a moment before stepping a little closer.
"Thank you," he said quietly.
After that, both of them fell silent again.
The rain continued falling. One by one, the streetlights began to glow in the distance.
At that moment, neither of them knew that this rainy evening would become the beginning of a story in their lives—a story that might not have a happy ending.
Because sometimes the most beautiful stories end with the quietest sadness.
And this rainy day might just be the first chapter of their story…
