Introduction: Setting the Stage

Hello, dear readers!

Before we dive into the story proper, I wanted to take a moment to introduce you to the world we will be exploring together. This is my first attempt at truly writing a fanfiction from scratch. Usually, I translate or add small modifications to existing stories, but this time, I'm building something of my own.

Will it be full of plot holes? Probably.

Will my brain leak out along the way? Almost certainly.

But I'm going to try my best, and I hope you will enjoy the journey with me.

Now, let's talk about what this story is going to look like.

The Premise

This is a self insert Y/N story, which means our main character is essentially me, dropped into the Harry Potter universe. But rather than being born as a native witch, this is a transmigrated theme. Our heroine arrives with knowledge of the future, of the books and movies, and she plans to use that knowledge to navigate the treacherous waters of the wizarding world. Why grope in the dark like the natives when you already know where all the sharp corners are?

The story will follow the original major plot of Harry Potter, but with significant additions. At its core, I will be using the rich backstory and worldbuilding from the fanfiction "Basilisk born" as a foundation, layering on top of it my own expansions about various families and their histories.

The World

In this world, "dark" doesn't necessarily mean evil. It means adherence to the ancient traditions and practices of the wizarding world. These families:

Practice rituals and sacrifices, not always blood based, but always meaningful

Study and use curses and dark magic as tools, not as definitions of character

Value blood purity and lineage, but not to the extreme of looking down on halfbloods or muggleborns

The Keith family falls into this category. They are a dark family in the truest sense, preserving knowledge and power that lighter families have abandoned or forgotten.

On Dumbledore and the Order

I want to be clear about my perspective on certain characters and organizations.

Albus Dumbledore, for all his brilliance, is a hypocrite. He manipulates and maneuvers people like chess pieces, always convinced that the ends justify the means.

The Order of the Phoenix? Nonsense.

Good intentions wrapped in bad strategy, led by a man who trusts no one with the full truth.

That being said, I'm not here to bash characters mindlessly. Every character has depth, even the ones I disagree with. Dumbledore genuinely wants what's best for the wizarding world. He just happens to think he's the only one who can decide what "best" means.

The Main Character

Our MC is Nimue Keith Alberich or her full formal name "Morwenna Jane Alienor Alberich Emrys-LeFay" a pureblood witch born into the ancient and respected Keith family, with deep roots in dark magic. Her magical education begins early, taught by her family in the old ways before she ever steps foot in Hogwarts.

Nimue was the Lady of the Lake in Arthurian legend, connected to both Merlin and Morgana's stories. A perfect bridge name that ties both bloodlines together through Arthurian mythology.

Family Background

Let me break down her heritage, because it's going to be important:

On her mother's side, Jane Cassie Evans:

The Evans family in this story is not the muggle family we know from canon. Well, not entirely. There is still a blood relationship with Lily Evans, making our MC and Harry cousins. But this branch of the Evans family is the offspring of the Le Fay family in France. Yes, that Le Fay. As in Morgana Le Fay.

This connection brings certain gifts. The Evans line carries the parseltongue trait, passed down through generations. Harry's ability to speak to snakes comes from this bloodline, not from his unfortunate status as a horcrux. The famous Evans green eyes are also a marker of this heritage, eyes that have seen magic for centuries.

On her father's side, Jack Dale Keith, Head of the Keith Family:

The Keith family claims direct descent from Emrys. You might know him better as Merlin. In the modern magical world, he's remembered as the greatest wizard who ever lived, the founder of the Old Ways, the friend of Arthur. But the Keith family knows him as ancestor, as blood, as the source of their power and their responsibility to preserve ancient knowledge.

The Keith family is old. Older than Hogwarts. Older than the Ministry. They have watched wizards rise and fall, have seen empires crumble and new ones rise from the ashes. Through it all, they have kept their traditions, their rituals, their dark magic, passed from parent to child for over a thousand years.

The Significance of "Alberich"

You might notice that her last name is presented as Alberich, with Keith in the middle. This is not a mistake, nor is it merely a stylistic choice. In the oldest and most prestigious magical families, naming conventions often carry deep significance, and the Alberich name is among the rarest and most sacred.

Alberich is an exclusive family name, granted only to those individuals born with the combined blood of both Emrys (Merlin) and Morgana Le Fay flowing through their veins. It is not a surname that can be inherited through marriage or claimed through pretense. It is a marker, a declaration to those who understand, that this witch or wizard carries the dual legacy of the two most powerful magical beings in British history.

The tradition dates back over a thousand years, to the time when Merlin and Morgana walked the earth. Their bloodlines, though separate, occasionally intertwine through careful marriages and fateful unions. When a child is born with both lineages strongly expressed, the family bestows the name Alberich upon them. The name itself comes from ancient Germanic mythology, referring to a powerful sorcerer and ruler of the dwarves, keeper of hidden treasures and master of secret knowledge. It is fitting, for those who bear it carry the treasure of two bloodlines.

Because this tradition is so ancient and the occurrence so rare, many witches and wizards have never heard of it. The Alberich name is not shouted from rooftops. It is whispered in old families, recorded in private grimoires, and understood only by those who move in the deepest circles of magical tradition.

The Story Structure

The prologue of this story will focus entirely on our MC's childhood, before she ever meets Harry. We will explore:

Her early years in the Keith family, learning the old ways from her parents

Her relationship with the Evans side of the family, and the mystery of Le Fay blood

How she becomes close to Fleur Delacour, building a bond that will span years and countries

How she connects with Daphne Greengrass, another pureblood girl navigating the complexities of old family expectations

These relationships are central to my vision. While this story will have multiple romantic interests (our MC is building a harem, let's be honest about it), Fleur and Daphne are the primary partners in my mind. Whether she ends up with both of them, or chooses one as her "true CP" by the end, remains to be seen. The story will tell me as I write it.

Meeting Harry

Our MC will first meet Harry when they are both seven years old. The fact that they are cousins, connected through the Evans blood, means their paths will cross long before the Hogwarts letters arrive. This early connection will shape both of their futures in ways neither of them can predict.

A Note on Progress

This is very much an initial idea. The worldbuilding will grow as the story grows. Characters will reveal themselves to me as I write them. Plot threads will appear and hopefully weave together into something coherent.

I'm not sure how this story will end. I'm not sure if I'll manage to avoid every plot hole or if my brain will cooperate all the way through. But I'm excited to try.

Thank you for your support, and I hope you'll love this fanfiction as much as I'm going to love writing it.
