Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 — Shifting Tides

The apartment was quieter that afternoon.

Not silent—never silent with seven people living together—but softer. The chaotic morning energy had faded into a comfortable rhythm of everyday life.

Jimin and Taehyung had taken over the living room floor, practicing dance choreography with the curtains half drawn. Music pulsed softly from the speakers as they moved in sync, their laughter occasionally breaking through when one of them messed up.

Jungkook sat cross-legged on the couch nearby with his laptop balanced on his knees. Every few minutes he looked up from the screen to watch them, offering teasing commentary.

"Your spin was off."

Jimin shot him a glare.

"You try doing it then."

Jungkook smirked but didn't move.

"I would destroy both of you."

Taehyung snorted.

"Sure, athlete."

Across the room, Jin was reorganizing the bookshelf for what was probably the tenth time that month. He hummed softly to himself, carefully adjusting the angle of every book like it was a priceless artifact.

Meanwhile Yoongi occupied the armchair near the window, headphones resting loosely around his neck as he tapped slowly at his tablet, working on a melody.

The calm atmosphere wrapped around the apartment like a blanket.

But Hoseok noticed something was missing.

Namjoon.

Hoseok stood in the kitchen washing the last of the breakfast dishes when the front door opened quietly.

Namjoon stepped inside.

He looked tired.

Not physically exhausted—more like mentally overwhelmed.

His shoulders were tense, his expression distant.

Hoseok noticed immediately.

"Joon?" he called gently.

Namjoon looked up, surprised to see him.

"Oh… hey."

Hoseok dried his hands and walked over.

"You've been gone all day. Everything okay?"

For a moment Namjoon didn't answer. His fingers tightened slightly around the strap of his bag.

Then he sighed.

"I got called into a meeting today."

That caught Hoseok's attention.

"A serious meeting?"

Namjoon nodded slowly.

"Yeah."

The noise in the living room had faded as the others gradually realized Namjoon had returned.

Jungkook closed his laptop.

"What kind of meeting?"

Yoongi slid his headphones down.

Jimin and Taehyung stopped dancing.

Suddenly all six pairs of eyes were on him.

Namjoon rubbed the back of his neck.

"My company offered me something."

Jin tilted his head.

"That sounds good."

"It is," Namjoon said carefully. "But it's… complicated."

Hoseok leaned against the counter, watching him closely.

"What kind of offer?"

Namjoon took a breath.

"They want me to lead a major international project."

The room went quiet.

Jungkook blinked.

"Like… a promotion?"

"Basically."

Jin's face lit up instantly.

"That's amazing!"

Taehyung clapped excitedly.

"Our leader becoming even more powerful!"

Jimin grinned proudly.

"I knew it."

But Yoongi remained silent.

And Hoseok noticed the hesitation still lingering in Namjoon's eyes.

"What's the catch?" Yoongi asked calmly.

Namjoon exhaled.

"I'd have to travel a lot."

The excitement faded slightly.

"How much is a lot?" Jimin asked.

Namjoon looked at the floor.

"Months at a time."

Silence filled the kitchen.

Jungkook sat up straighter.

"Wait… months?"

Namjoon nodded.

"They'd base the project overseas. I'd still come back when I can but—"

"You'd basically be gone," Yoongi finished.

Namjoon didn't argue.

Taehyung's earlier excitement slowly melted into confusion.

"But… we just got settled here."

Jimin shifted uncomfortably.

"And what about us?"

Namjoon looked up quickly.

"I wouldn't abandon you."

"No one said that," Jimin replied softly.

But the tension had already crept into the room.

Jin crossed his arms thoughtfully.

"Is this something you want?"

Namjoon hesitated.

"Yes."

His honesty hung heavily in the air.

"I've worked toward something like this for years," he continued quietly. "It's a huge opportunity."

Jungkook frowned.

"But it means leaving."

"Not permanently."

"Still."

Jimin looked down at his hands.

Taehyung leaned against the counter beside him, unusually quiet.

Hoseok could feel the emotional shift spreading through the group.

The alphas understood ambition.

But the omegas felt something different.

Distance.

Uncertainty.

Fear.

And Hoseok stood right in the center of it.

Namjoon noticed their reactions and his expression tightened.

"I knew this would upset everyone."

"It's not upsetting," Jin said carefully.

"It's just… unexpected."

Yoongi finally spoke again.

"When do you have to give them an answer?"

"Next week."

Jungkook ran a hand through his hair.

"That's fast."

Namjoon nodded.

"They want the project to start soon."

The kitchen fell quiet again.

Jimin looked at Hoseok, searching his face.

"Hobi… what do you think?"

Six sets of eyes turned toward him now.

Hoseok hadn't spoken since Namjoon arrived.

He took a slow breath.

Then he smiled gently.

"I think… this is something we should talk about together."

Namjoon's shoulders relaxed slightly.

"You're not mad?"

Hoseok shook his head.

"No."

He stepped closer and placed a hand on Namjoon's arm.

"You worked hard for this."

"But?"

Hoseok tilted his head.

"But we're seven people in this relationship."

Namjoon nodded.

"So the decision affects all of us."

Taehyung finally spoke.

"Would you want us to move with you?"

Namjoon blinked.

"I didn't think that would be possible."

Jimin looked uncertain.

"Moving countries isn't exactly easy."

Jungkook sighed.

"And my job is here."

Yoongi added quietly,

"Mine too."

The reality of the situation settled heavier now.

Jin tapped his finger against the counter thoughtfully.

"So we're balancing careers… and relationships."

"Basically," Namjoon admitted.

Hoseok watched everyone carefully.

The alphas looked thoughtful.

The omegas looked uneasy.

No one was angry yet.

But emotions were beginning to stir beneath the surface.

Jimin suddenly spoke again.

"It just feels like we found our rhythm here."

Taehyung nodded.

"Yeah."

Jungkook glanced at Namjoon.

"You didn't tell them about us, did you?"

Namjoon shook his head.

"No."

"So they don't know you're leaving six partners behind."

A small awkward laugh escaped Jin.

"That would definitely complicate the meeting."

Namjoon rubbed his temples.

"I don't want to choose between my career and all of you."

Hoseok's voice softened.

"You don't have to."

Everyone looked at him.

"But we do need to figure out how to make this work."

Yoongi studied Hoseok quietly.

"You're already planning solutions."

Hoseok smiled slightly.

"That's kind of my job around here."

Taehyung leaned his head on Hoseok's shoulder.

"What if the solution is we kidnap Namjoon and hide him here forever?"

Jungkook laughed.

"Tempting."

Jimin looked half serious.

"I'd help."

Namjoon groaned.

"You're all terrible."

But the tension eased just a little.

Hoseok gently nudged Taehyung.

"Don't worry yet."

Taehyung looked up.

"Easy for you to say."

Hoseok's smile softened.

"Maybe."

Then he glanced around the room at all six of them.

"But we've handled harder things than this."

Jin raised an eyebrow.

"Like Jungkook learning to cook?"

"Hey!"

Yoongi smirked.

"That was traumatic."

Jimin giggled.

Namjoon finally laughed too.

The heaviness didn't disappear completely.

But the warmth slowly returned.

Hoseok watched them carefully.

He could still see the lingering uncertainty in the omegas' eyes.

And the thoughtful tension in the alphas' expressions.

The real conversation hadn't happened yet.

But it would.

And Hoseok already knew his role.

Holding the balance.

Keeping the seven of them together.

Even when the tides started shifting.

As the evening sunlight faded through the windows, Hoseok looked around at the people he loved.

This opportunity could change everything.

The question was whether it would pull them apart…

Or make them stronger.
