Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 – Office Rumors

Emily arrived at Knight Corporation earlier than usual the next morning.

After her exhausting first day, she had learned something very important about Alexander Knight.

He hated mistakes.

Even the smallest error would earn her a cold stare that made her feel like she was standing in front of a judge.

So today she planned to be perfect.

As she stepped into the office lobby, she immediately noticed people whispering.

Several employees glanced in her direction before quickly looking away.

Emily frowned.

"Why are they staring at me?"

She walked toward the elevators, pretending not to notice the curious looks.

But the whispers only grew louder.

"That's her."

"The new assistant."

"The one the CEO hired personally."

Emily pressed the elevator button nervously.

When the doors opened, two female employees stepped inside with her.

They looked at her from head to toe.

One of them spoke quietly but loud enough for Emily to hear.

"She doesn't look special."

The other girl laughed softly.

"Maybe the CEO has different taste."

Emily clenched her hands slightly.

"Great… office gossip already."

When the elevator reached the executive floor, Emily quickly stepped out and headed toward Alexander's office.

She pushed open the door carefully.

Alexander was already there.

Of course he was.

The man seemed to arrive at work before sunrise.

He sat behind his desk, reviewing documents with his usual calm expression.

Without looking up, he said,

"You're three minutes early."

Emily blinked.

"How did you know?"

Alexander finally raised his eyes.

"I check the security log."

Emily sighed.

"Of course you do."

She placed her bag down and sat at the assistant desk outside his office.

Within minutes, her phone began ringing.

Emails flooded her computer.

Meeting schedules.

Client calls.

Document reviews.

Emily felt overwhelmed.

"Does he run an empire or a war zone?"

Around noon, she carried a stack of reports into Alexander's office.

"Here are the files you asked for."

Alexander took them and flipped through the pages.

His expression remained unreadable.

After a moment he said,

"These numbers are incorrect."

Emily froze.

"What?"

She rushed over and looked at the page.

Her heart dropped.

She had switched two columns by mistake.

"I'll fix it immediately," she said quickly.

Alexander studied her reaction carefully.

Most assistants would panic or make excuses.

But Emily simply grabbed the file and began correcting it.

No complaints.

No excuses.

Just determination.

Alexander leaned back slightly.

Interesting.

Very interesting.

Outside the office, the whispers continued.

And the rumors about the CEO's new assistant were only beginning.
