Chapter 1 - awakening Exam

"Hello, students. Today will be the official day you get your awakenings, and also the last day of middle school," the principal smiled, as students in the building started whispering, not knowing what type of awakening they'll get

.

"Hey Cheon, what type of awakening do you think you'll get?" Seol jokingly smiled.

Well I'm not too sure. No one in my family was ever talented enough to get an awakening. Well my grandfather did, but he passed not too long ago as you already know.

"Well I think I'll get the magic awakening, since I've begun feeling mana recently," Seol laughed. Cheon didn't know what to feel, happy or envious for Seol, as he still didn't feel any different from usual.

"Okay students, I will be calling y'all up one by one to take the awakening test. The first awakening test will be sensing mana. Those of you who fail today will be able to reapply in one year."

The principal's words resonated in the hearts of the students, including Cheon, who sat in the back of the school's courtyard.

Next to him was his best friend Seol.

They've been friends ever since elementary school, both dreaming of attending awakening school, and it is now possible to attain that dream.

300 years have passed ever since the first gate appeared. Gates all around the world appeared, and fantasy like monsters came out of those gates.

Humanity was on the brink of extinction, but luckily the first Divine Awakened appeared. One individual, with one swing of his hand, killed hundreds of beasts. Not long after, the Divine Awakened disappeared. Soon after that, others started gaining powers, which are now called Awakened beings.

"We'll proceed now. When I call your name, come up to the stage and touch the crystal ball. If it turns blue then you are an E rank awakened. I will now explain the ranks in order. E rank is for starting awakened, D rank is for intermediate awakened, C rank is for semi expert awakened, B rank is for expert, A rank is masters, S rank is mythical beings which is only five people in North Korea, and Divine rank which is only one person," the principal said out of breath. The students tensed up, now feeling the weight of failing.

"You know the drill now. When you're called, place your hands on the crystal ball."

"Kayan Will."

A small boy from the front row stood. His body visibly trembling as he approached the stage.

Cheon watched as Kayan placed both of his hands against the ball's surface.

After a few seconds passed, the crystal ball began to light up a dark blue color. The phenomenon was brilliant and sudden. A magic wand materialized as big as a small house over the crystal ball beside Kayan before fading into thin air.

"Congratulations, Kayan. You've attained a Power Mage class. You will make a fine mage!"

The crowd erupted in applause. Seol clapped along with everyone else. The more awakeners, the stronger humanity gets.

Three more names were called, of which two were successes and one failure. The girl who failed walked back to her seat with her head down, and the conversations around her died into uncomfortable silence before resuming moments later, completely ignoring her existence.

Cheon felt bad for the girl who failed, but was determined to have the crystal ball glow.

"Snon Seol."

"Cheon wish me luck. Today is the day I become an awakener," Seol screamed loudly.

Cheon watched her go, happy that she had confidence after seeing that girl who failed and how everyone was laughing.

"Touch the crystal ball and concentrate your mind only on the crystal," the principal said.

A few seconds passed. Then a golden light filled the room with elegance. The students were in awe, especially Cheon. A bright golden light shimmered on top of the crystal displaying a mighty staff beside Seol.

"Congratulations Seol. You've attained the highest mana sensitivity and the great class of Wizard!" The students, still in awe, started applauding Seol as she started walking back.

"Gyu Cheon, you're the last one. Come up to the stage."

As Gyu Cheon started walking, everyone's eyes were fixated on him. Cheon started getting really nervous, now thinking about the possibility of failure as he walked onto the stage near the crystal ball. Trembling, he placed his trembling arms on the crystal ball, hoping it at least turns a color.

2 minutes later the crystal was still gray. Students began whispering, as Seol got worried about Cheon.

As Cheon turned back to look at the principal, he saw utter disgust on the principal's face.

S-Sir please let me try agai-

"Mister Cheon please go back to your seat. You can always try again next year,"

the principal said. The students began laughing at Cheon, calling him a poor bastard as he walked down. His eyes starting to tear as he tried to hold them back. Seol then came to comfort him, saying that next year he will definitely awaken. Cheon paid no attention to her and walked out.

A few days later at Cheon's house, Cheon was in his room playing video games, trash everywhere. Seol came to check up on him today.

"Hey Cheon… do you want to go to the mall with me?" Seol said with saddened eyes.

Cheon just looked at her and went back to playing his game. Seol raised her hand and snatched his headphones off.

"Hey what the hell are you doing?"

Cheon looked up to see tears streaming from Seol's eyes like a waterfall.

"You dummy, I was only trying to cheer you up."

"Seol look, I've already given up on trying to become awakened. But you have a good future ahead of you. You even obtained the Wizard class. You should focus on your studies and become an amazing wizard," Cheon said smiling.

"Well will you at least come with me to the mall? I have no friends other than you anyways," Seol said wiping off tears.

Sigh, I'm only coming since you don't know directions well.
