chapter 4

That night, Ethan couldn't sleep.

Lily's words kept echoing in his mind.

"You need to forget about me."

But forgetting her was impossible.

Only a few weeks ago, Ethan's life had been quiet and empty.

Then Lily appeared.

Like a sudden storm.

Fast, beautiful, and dangerous.

And now he knew the truth.

The girl he loved was being hunted.

The Morning Warning

The next morning Ethan woke up to a message from Lily.

"We need to leave Riverdale."

Ethan immediately called her.

"Lily, what happened?"

Her voice sounded scared.

"I think they followed me last night."

Ethan felt a chill.

"Are you safe?"

"Yes… but not for long."

"What do you mean?"

"They know I'm here now."

Ethan grabbed his jacket.

"Stay where you are. I'm coming."

The Escape Plan

Ethan arrived at Lily's apartment.

She had already packed a small bag.

Her camera, some clothes, and the flash drive were inside.

Ethan looked at the bag.

"That's all you're taking?"

Lily smiled sadly.

"When you run away a lot… you learn to travel light."

Ethan didn't like the sound of that.

"How long have you been running?"

"Almost a year."

Ethan felt angry.

"You've been alone this whole time?"

She nodded.

But then she looked at him softly.

"Not anymore."

For a moment, silence filled the room.

Then Ethan asked,

"Where do we go?"

Lily thought for a moment.

"There's a big city two hundred miles away. If we reach there, we can give the flash drive to the police."

Ethan nodded.

"Then let's go."

But neither of them knew…

Someone very close was about to betray them.

The Betrayal

Before leaving town, Ethan decided to visit the only person he trusted.

His best friend.

Ryan.

Ryan owned a small car repair shop in Riverdale.

When Ethan and Lily arrived, Ryan greeted them with surprise.

"Whoa, what's going on? You both look like you're running from a movie."

Ethan explained everything.

The men.

The flash drive.

The danger.

Ryan listened quietly.

Then he nodded.

"You're doing the right thing."

Ethan felt relieved.

"Can we borrow your car?"

Ryan smiled.

"Of course."

He handed Ethan the keys.

"Be careful, man."

Ethan hugged his friend.

"Thank you."

But as Ethan and Lily drove away…

Ryan slowly pulled out his phone.

He dialed a number.

A deep voice answered.

"Did you find her?"

Ryan looked down the empty road where Ethan's car disappeared.

"Yes."

The Chase Begins

Ethan and Lily drove along the long highway outside Riverdale.

The sky slowly turned gray as clouds gathered.

For the first time in days, Lily looked calm.

"Thank you for staying with me," she said quietly.

Ethan glanced at her.

"I told you. I'm not leaving."

She smiled softly.

Then suddenly—

Headlights appeared behind them.

A black car.

Ethan's heart dropped.

"Lily…"

She looked in the mirror.

Her face turned pale.

"They found us."

The black car accelerated quickly.

Then another car appeared from the side road.

They were surrounded.

Ethan pressed the accelerator.

The car sped down the highway.

The wind roared loudly.

Cars chased them from behind.

Lily gripped the seat tightly.

"They're too close!"

Ethan turned the steering wheel sharply onto a smaller road.

The tires screeched.

The cars followed.

One of the men leaned out of the window and shouted,

"Stop the car!"

Lily's voice shook.

"They're not going to let us go."

Ethan's mind raced.

Then he saw something ahead.

An old abandoned bridge.

"Hold on," he said.

The Truth Revealed

Ethan stopped the car near the bridge.

The black cars surrounded them.

The tall man stepped out slowly.

Clapping his hands.

"Impressive driving."

Ethan stood in front of Lily again.

"How did you find us?"

The man smiled.

"Your friend told us."

Ethan's eyes widened.

"Ryan?"

"Yes."

Lily whispered sadly,

"I told you we can't trust anyone."

The tall man stepped closer.

"Now give us the flash drive."

Lily shook her head.

"No."

The man sighed.

"You really want to make this difficult."

Suddenly—

Police sirens filled the air.

Everyone looked around.

Several police cars rushed onto the road.

Officers jumped out with guns.

"DROP YOUR WEAPONS!"

The tall man cursed.

He looked at Lily.

"This isn't over."

Then the criminals quickly escaped into their cars and drove away.

The police surrounded Ethan and Lily.

An officer walked toward them.

"Are you two okay?"

Lily slowly pulled the flash drive from her pocket.

Her hands trembled.

"This… this is what they want."

The officer looked serious.

"What's on it?"

Lily answered quietly.

"Everything."

The officer nodded.

"We'll take it from here."

For the first time since the nightmare began…

It seemed like everything might finally be over.

But Ethan noticed something strange.

Lily didn't look relieved.

She looked… scared.

"Lily?" he asked softly.

She looked at him.

Her eyes filled with tears again.

"There's something else you don't know."

Ethan felt his heart sink.

"What is it?"

Her voice was barely a whisper.

"The flash drive isn't the only secret."
