Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Royal Return of the Blue Beacon

The town of Kaliaganj hadn't changed much in the last few years, but Narayan Chatterjee's life had transformed beyond recognition. On the very same Platform No. 2 of the station where he once stood as an ordinary middle-class boy, a red carpet was laid out today. When Narayan stepped off the Kulik Express, he was wearing a crisp white shirt and sunglasses. Four constables followed behind him, and the local police chief himself stood in front, offering a crisp salute.

Narayan was no longer just the boy from the pulse mill; he was now the new Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of the district.

Exiting the station, Narayan saw a black Scorpio waiting, topped with the long-awaited blue beacon. Standing in front of the car was Aparajita. Her eyes were filled with tears of joy today. She stepped forward and took Narayan's hand. Narayan smiled gently and asked, "Sarathi (Charioteer), will you be the one driving today?" Aparajita laughed, "Let the driver handle it today; you just sit beside me."

As the car passed through the narrow streets of Kaliaganj and drove past Narayan's father's pulse mill, crowds gathered on both sides of the road. The people at the tea stall, who had once mocked Narayan as 'unemployed,' stared in disbelief. Narayan didn't stop the car; he just looked at them once through the window. There was no fire of revenge in his eyes, only a strange sense of peace.

But the real surprise was waiting at Aparajita's house. Aparajita's father, the formidable Railway Officer, was pacing restlessly in his drawing room. He knew Narayan was coming today. Once, he had gone to Narayan's father's mill to humiliate him, saying— "A boy from a pulse mill can never be worthy of my daughter."

At exactly 5:00 PM, Narayan's blue-beacon car stopped in front of Aparajita's gate. When Narayan stepped out of the car in full uniform, cap on head, the entire neighborhood went silent. Aparajita's father stood on the veranda. Narayan walked up slowly and gave him a formal salute.

Aparajita's father was stunned. Narayan said in a calm voice, "Uncle, this salute isn't for you; it's for your stubbornness. It's because you insulted me that day that I found the strength to stand here today. You told Aparajita I was unworthy—have I earned the right to hold your daughter's hand today?"

Aparajita's father's pride crumbled in an instant. He lowered his head and said, "Forgive me, Narayan. I only saw status; I failed to see the fire within a human being."

Aparajita stepped up and took Narayan's hand. Narayan saw that the dust of the pulse mill was now covered by the bright IPS uniform. But in his heart, he remained that same simple boy from Kaliaganj.

However, life after becoming an IPS officer wasn't just a bed of roses. That very night, Narayan's phone rang from an unknown number. A raspy voice came from the other end: "Congratulations, Officer! Your duty in Kaliaganj won't be as easy as you think. Will you save your pulse mill, or your job?"

Narayan realized the real battle was just beginning. Behind the peace of Kaliaganj, a major mafia ring was at work.
