Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Aftermath...

The night that had once been peaceful was now filled with chaos.

Flames still burned across the shattered roadway outside the Central Police Station. Thick clouds of smoke twisted upward into the winter sky, turning the falling snow into dark gray ash.

The explosion had been heard across half the city.

Within minutes, emergency sirens echoed from every direction.

Fire trucks screeched to a halt near the burning street as firefighters rushed out, dragging heavy hoses behind them.

Water sprayed into the flames, hissing loudly as it struck the burning debris.

Police vehicles surrounded the entire area.

Yellow barricade tape stretched across the road, keeping civilians away from the disaster zone.

People gathered behind the barriers, whispering nervously.

"Was it a terrorist attack?"

"It came from the police station!"

"My friend said it was a car bomb!"

Rumors spread rapidly through the frightened crowd.

Above them, snow continued falling silently, covering the broken street in a thin white layer.

But the snow could not hide the destruction.

The entire section of road had been blasted apart.

A massive crater burned in the center where the mysterious car had once stood.

Broken concrete and twisted metal littered the area.

The once quiet street now looked like a battlefield.

Inside the police station, chaos continued.

Paramedics hurried through the hallways carrying medical equipment as injured officers were treated.

Officer Daniel Morris lay on a stretcher near the entrance.

His uniform was torn and covered in soot.

A deep cut ran across his forehead, and his right arm was wrapped tightly in bandages.

Despite the injuries, he remained conscious.

Beside him, Officer Blake sat against the wall while a medic examined his shoulder.

Blake winced in pain.

"That blast… nearly killed us," he muttered.

Daniel closed his eyes briefly.

"If we hadn't run…"

He didn't finish the sentence.

Both officers knew exactly how close they had come to death.

Outside the station, investigators had already begun examining the scene.

Floodlights illuminated the destroyed roadway, casting long shadows across the debris.

Detective Laura Hayes stepped carefully across the cracked pavement.

She had arrived only fifteen minutes after the explosion.

Her dark coat fluttered slightly in the freezing wind as she studied the scene with sharp, calculating eyes.

A forensic officer approached her.

"Detective Hayes."

She turned slightly.

"What do we know?"

"Preliminary report says it was a vehicle bomb."

Laura nodded slowly.

"That much is obvious."

She looked toward the crater again.

"But something about this feels wrong."

The officer frowned.

"What do you mean?"

Laura stepped closer to the edge of the crater.

"This explosion was powerful," she said quietly.

"But where's the car?"

The officer hesitated.

"That's… actually what we're trying to figure out."

Laura looked at him

.

"You haven't found it?"

The officer shook his head.

"Not a single recognizable part."

Laura crouched near the edge of the crater.

She picked up a small fragment of twisted metal from the ground. It was blackened by fire.

But it was far too thin to be part of a car frame.

"This should be impossible," she murmured.

Even the most powerful explosions always left traces.Engines.Tires.Pieces of the chassis.

But here…

There was almost nothing.

It was as if the car had simply vanished.

Laura stood again, her mind already racing through possibilities.

A bomb powerful enough to erase nearly every trace of the vehicle…

And placed directly outside a police station.

This wasn't random.This was deliberate.

Someone had planned this very carefully.

A young officer approached her nervously.

"Detective Hayes?"

"Yes?"

"The two officers who discovered the car are awake."

Laura turned toward the station entrance.

"Good."

She walked inside immediately.

The bright lights of the station hallway contrasted sharply with the dark winter outside.

Daniel noticed her approaching.

"Detective…"

Laura stopped beside his stretcher.

"I need you to tell me exactly what happened."

Daniel nodded weakly.

"We saw the car on the security camera."

"When did it arrive?"

"That's the strange part."

Daniel pointed toward the control room.

"The footage doesn't show it arriving."

Laura's eyes narrowed.

"Explain."

"One moment the road was empty," Daniel said.

"The next moment… the car was just there."

Laura frowned slightly.

"You're saying it appeared suddenly?"

Daniel nodded.

"Like the camera skipped something."

Blake spoke from the nearby chair.

"We rewound the footage three times."

"Same result every time."

Laura crossed her arms.

"And then you went outside to investigate."

"Yes."

"What did you see?"

Daniel took a slow breath.

"The car had no license plate. No lights. No driver."

"And the bomb?"

"It was attached underneath the back of the vehicle."

Laura wrote quickly in her notebook.

"Did you see anyone nearby?"

Both officers shook their heads.

"No."

Laura closed the notebook.

Which meant the bomber had either escaped before the officers noticed the car…

Or had never been there when they checked.

Either possibility raised serious questions.

Back outside, the forensic team continued scanning the area.

One officer carefully examined the pavement near the crater with a portable ultraviolet light.

Suddenly he froze.

"Detective!"

Laura walked over.

"What is it?"

The officer pointed toward the ground.

"There's a mark here."

Laura crouched beside him.

At first it looked like ordinary burn damage from the explosion.

But as she examined it closer…

She noticed the shape.

Six thin lines extending outward from a small center point. Her eyes narrowed.

"…That's not random."

The officer tilted his head.

"What is it?"

Laura stared at the mark for a few seconds longer.

"A snowflake."

The officer blinked.

"A snowflake?"

Laura stood slowly. The symbol was subtle.

Almost invisible.

But it had clearly been burned into the road intentionally.

Someone had left it there.

And with Christmas only a week away, the meaning was difficult to ignore.

Laura looked toward the dark sky.

Snow continued drifting quietly over the ruined street.

If this symbol was a message…

Then the explosion wasn't just an attack.

It was a statement.

Or perhaps…

A beginning.

Several kilometers away, in a quiet apartment building, a television screen flickered softly in a dark room.

News reporters spoke urgently.

"Authorities are investigating a massive explosion outside the Central Police Station earlier tonight…"

The glow from the television illuminated a figure sitting in a chair..

The man watched the screen silently.

His face remained hidden in shadow.

On the table beside him rested a small notebook.

Inside the notebook was a list of names.

Police officers.

Each name was written carefully in black ink.

The man picked up a red pen.

Slowly… calmly…

He drew a line through the first name on the list.

Then he whispered quietly.

"One step completed."

He flipped the page.More names appeared.

Seven in total.

His finger traced the second name slowly.

Outside the window, snow began falling harder.

The man leaned back in his chair.

"Six more days…"

His lips curled slightly into a faint smile.

"…until Christmas."

The television continued reporting the disaster in the background.

But the man no longer watched it.

Instead, he closed the notebook.

And whispered softly to himself—

"The game has only just begun."
