Chapter 14 - Little Japs?

At this point, more than a week had passed since the outbreak of the Corpse Brother virus. H City's connection to the outside world was essentially severed, and many opportunistic low-lifes had taken advantage of the chaos to sneak in.

The island nation of Japan was particularly active. Their ancestors knew exactly what the root of this calamity was and wanted to take Long You back with them. Little did they know, Long You was not someone they could afford to provoke!

After leaving Ren Kurogane's place, Bai Xiaofei relied on his superhuman physical stats to carry his girlfriend across rooftops and walls, making absolutely no effort to conceal his movements.

In Xiaofei's eyes, the world was still a relatively peaceful place. Now that he had become a "Superman," he felt invincible. Even those Corpse Brothers weren't worth a single strike; he could slaughter them at will. He assumed that even if there were other masters like him, they were all human—surely no one would just attack him out of the blue.

Because of this, Xiaofei lacked any real sense of crisis.

Until two shuriken whistled toward him.

"To be able to scale walls like that... you must know where the Corpse King is, don't you?"

A Japanese ninja clad in black night-gear blocked Xiaofei's path, speaking in clunky, broken Chinese.

Xiaofei usually lacked any sort of intimidating presence. Even though his true strength had reached the Earth-level, he didn't radiate the aura of a powerhouse. This led the ninja to misidentify him as a mid-level Yan Huang operative with limited strength, hoping to pry information from his mouth.

"A Little Jap?" Xiaofei frowned instinctively. He had zero good feelings toward these invaders—with the exception of Japan's "Enlightenment Teachers," of course.

For those teachers, Xiaofei was deeply grateful for the myriad of "techniques" they had imparted. It was a shame he was still a virgin at his age and hadn't been able to put a single bit of their selfless instruction to use.

But the ninja in front of him was clearly no teacher. The man looked at him with an unshakeable contempt, as if he didn't even consider Xiaofei a human being.

"It's time to unleash the ultimate power carved into the depths of my bloodline!" Xiaofei's gaze sharpened. His killing intent manifested into countless invisible blades, instantly skewering the ninja's body.

"You!..."

The ninja didn't even have time for last words before his breath escaped him forever.

"And they dare to act wild in Yan Huang with such pathetic skills? What a bunch of morons," Xiaofei huffed disdainfully before moving out again.

His current goal was to find the authorities and hand over the serum. Through the emergency broadcasts, he knew where the military evacuation point was; he just needed to get there.

However, they were still quite far. Even at full speed, it would take over ten minutes—and Xiaofei wasn't exactly at full speed with his "wife" on his back.

"Fei, I think Ren was right. The world might really be falling into chaos," Xiaowei said suddenly. Ren had mentioned a massive global shift during one of their chats, but neither of them had taken it to heart at the time.

After being ambushed by a foreign ninja, Xiaowei recalled Ren's warnings and began to worry about her and Xiaofei's future.

"Don't overthink it. Once I hand the serum to the military, we'll head to L City to get our parents. Then we'll regroup with Ren. As long as we're all together, we don't have to worry about whatever happens to the world."

Xiaowei nodded. "Mm! As long as we're together, there's nothing to fear."

Sensing the mood was getting heavy, Xiaofei joked, "Besides, your husband is so powerful now, I might be the strongest person on Earth! Even if things go south, I can stop it all by myself."

"You're right! My husband is the best!" Xiaowei smiled again, the gloom momentarily banished.

As they leaped between skyscrapers, they were unaware that their every move was being watched from above.

"Erkang! Is that guy one of our special ops?" Lin Long asked the red-haired man beside her.

"My lady, my name is Erduo, not Erkang!"

"Based on my scans, the subject is not a registered special operative," the robot Mao Tu replied.

Mao Tu was a bipedal white rabbit robot capable of detecting combat power, though its ceiling was limited. After cross-referencing the database, it confirmed Bai Xiaofei was not on the national records.

"So he's either a new 'Awakener' or an operative from another country?" Lin Long mused.

"Remember that terrifying energy fluctuation from earlier? It was definitely in this sector," Lan Hai added.

"Can we recruit him?" Lin Long's eyes sparkled. She immediately wanted to add Xiaofei to her entourage.

"I'd drop that idea if I were you," Erduo said, throwing cold water on her plan. "Based on the energy levels we just detected, if that guy joins the Special Department, he'd be a reserve for the First or Second Special Ops teams at minimum. He's way out of your 'private guard' league."

"You!" Lin Long glared at him but couldn't argue. Erduo was right. Even if she wanted to force Xiaofei to stay, her father would never allow it.

Whoosh!BOOM!!!

Suddenly, a dark projectile streaked across the sky, scoring a direct hit on Lin Long's aircraft!

"Crap! Protect the young mistress!"

Boom!

Another explosion followed, and the aircraft was reduced to falling debris.

On the ground, Bai Xiaofei suddenly felt a wave of extreme danger washing over him. The hair on his neck stood up, and his muscles coiled like springs.

"What's wrong, Fei?" Xiaowei immediately sensed his tension.

"It's dangerous! Xiaowei, protect yourself!"

The moment the words left his mouth, a "meteor" slammed into the ground directly in front of them with a violent impact.

"Hehe... I didn't expect to run into a descendant of an old friend so soon after waking. Seeing how you've developed, I suppose you haven't disgraced his bloodline."

A deep, resonant voice echoed through the settling dust, sending a shiver down Xiaofei's spine.

"Who are you? A Yan Huang high-ranking official?" Xiaofei asked tentatively. "Or another Little Jap?"

Whoosh—

A gust of wind cleared the dust, revealing a white-haired man covered in strange, ornate markings.

That face! He looks just like the Corpse Brothers! Is he an evolved variant? Xiaofei's mind raced.

"I am neither a Yan Huang official nor a Japanese pawn." The Corpse King, Long You, didn't reveal his true identity. Instead, he looked at Xiaofei with genuine interest. "Your power has awakened, but you have yet to learn how to apply it. Allow me to teach you how to fight. Consider it the fulfillment of a long-standing obligation!"
