Chapter 4 - The Boy Who Hated Music

In the busy town of Riverside lived a boy named Kabir who hated music.

At least, that's what he told everyone.

But it hadn't always been that way.

When Kabir was younger, he loved singing. His mother often found him humming songs while doing homework or walking to school. His music teacher even encouraged him to join the school talent show.

For weeks, Kabir practiced the same song again and again. He imagined standing on stage, singing confidently while the audience clapped.

But when the day of the performance arrived, everything went wrong.

As Kabir stood under the bright stage lights, his hands began to shake. His heart raced. When the music started, his voice cracked in the first line.

A few students in the audience laughed.

The sound of that laughter stayed in Kabir's mind long after the show ended.

From that day on, he avoided music completely.

If someone played a song nearby, he walked away. If the music teacher asked him to sing, he shook his head.

"I don't like music," he would say.

But the truth was, music reminded him of that embarrassing moment.

One afternoon, while walking home from school, Kabir heard something unusual coming from the corner of the street.

A group of teenagers were playing music together.

One was tapping rhythm on a small drum. Another played a guitar. A girl sang while smiling brightly.

People passing by stopped to listen.

Kabir slowed down.

He stood quietly at a distance, watching them.

The music wasn't perfect. The guitarist missed a few notes, and the singer sometimes laughed in the middle of a line.

But they all looked happy.

One of the boys noticed Kabir standing nearby.

"Hey," he called out. "Do you want to try?"

Kabir quickly shook his head.

"No. I don't like music."

The boy shrugged and smiled.

"That's okay. You can just listen."

For the next few days, Kabir passed the same corner after school.

And every day, the group was there.

Little by little, Kabir started staying longer.

One evening, the girl singing handed him a small shaker instrument.

"Just keep the rhythm," she said.

Kabir hesitated.

But this time, he didn't walk away.

He gently shook the instrument along with the beat.

No one laughed.

Instead, the group smiled and continued playing.

Over the next few weeks, Kabir started joining them more often. Sometimes he tapped the drum. Sometimes he hummed quietly along with the songs.

One evening, the guitarist asked him, "You have a good voice. Why don't you sing?"

Kabir felt the old fear return.

But then he remembered something.

These people weren't judging him.

They were simply enjoying music.

Taking a deep breath, Kabir sang a few lines.

His voice trembled at first—but it didn't break.

The others clapped and cheered.

For the first time in a long time, Kabir smiled while singing.

That day he realized something important.

He never truly hated music.

He had only been afraid of making mistakes.

And sometimes, the best way to rediscover something you love is to try again—without fear. 🎶✨
