Chapter 3 - The Cost of Messing Around

In the review section of Super King of Psychic Powers, the comments all looked like this:

"This book just fine, so why did it suddenly turn into this? Author, did you drink fake booze?"

"I went back to check the earlier chapters. Turns out this 'Zhang Jiajia' was a female background character who got slapped in the face by the male lead. So she was actually a hidden super boss who counter killed him at a critical moment? Shouldn't this book be called Super Female Extra instead?"

"Bullshit. Absolute bullshit. I have already removed this book from my shelf and blacklisted the author."

"The author's way of trash ending is pretty unique. That background girl turning into a super boss with overpowered abilities is kind of creative though…"

Seeing this exploded review section, Zhao Youyue was immediately hit with a strong sense of guilt. How had she not realized that one act of messing around on her part had outright ruined an entire work?

At the same time, she remembered the condition for inheriting a character's abilities. It wasn't as simple as randomly creating an overpowered character and inheriting everything. She had to make that character become a classic that all readers remembered. And the current Zhang Jiajia wasn't a classic at all. She was a joke, a plot hole that had swallowed the story whole.

Aside from the chaos in the review section, some busybodies also made posts about the incident in the Web Fiction World section of the Dragon's Sky forum. Even so, it didn't cause much of a stir. First, the book was never a major hit to begin with. Second, these days there were simply too many web novel writers whose plots spiraled out of control and ended in trash endings.

Only then did Zhao Youyue truly come to an understanding. If she wanted a character to become a classic remembered by everyone, she couldn't mess around like this. She had to thoroughly understand the work's settings and perhaps even find the original author to discuss things. Only after making full preparations could she act.

Simply put, she couldn't break the balance of a work and cause the whole thing to collapse. If her presence could instead boost the work's popularity, that would be a win for both sides. After all, only works with high popularity had a real chance of having their characters remembered by the masses.

She wasn't the kind of girl who avoided responsibility after making a mistake. She directly registered an account on Qidian, using the nickname "Youyue." Then, with a few taps on her phone, she casually topped up five thousand Huayuan. For her, with a twenty thousand Huayuan monthly allowance, taking out five thousand was effortless.

She was a hospital director's daughter. Her parents had always believed in raising their daughter lavishly to avoid situations where she got tricked by some bad man with a bit of money. Of course, the downside of raising a daughter lavishly was that she might end up being chased by a poor guy who had nothing but sincerity, which was always awkward.

Zhao Youyue first bought the full subscription for the book, then tipped one hundred thousand Qidian coins, which meant a League Leader status. Surprisingly, this immediately made her the top supporter on the book's fan leaderboard. It turned out the book didn't even have a single League Leader before, only one Sect Leader. The author was a newbie, or rather, this pen name only had this one work under it.

This was the only way Zhao Youyue could express her guilt. She truly hadn't expected that the Dimension Gate wasn't a dream at all. Thinking about it now, it made sense. No dream could be that vivid, that tactile.

Very quickly, her red highlighted message appeared in the book's review section:

"Lavish praise beyond the heavens, moved to tears by your talent. Sir, you deserve this reward. Youyue tips the strongest 100000 Qidian coins."

That red highlight instantly shocked the readers who had been cursing the author in the review section.

"A wild rich spender appears. Wait, did this spender even read the latest chapter?"

"Is this encouraging the author to write nonsense?"

"This garbage book has a League Leader? That's hilarious."

"Author, hurry up and apologize. With writing like this, can you really face this rich spender who tipped a League Leader?"

Seeing that her tip had drawn so many comments, even though they were all questioning her actions, she still felt something different. After all, who tips a League Leader when an author has already written the story into a mess?

Still, this was the first time she had ever felt such a strong sense of presence. That was right; she was a rich, fair skinned beauty. The former Zhao Youyue wouldn't have spent money like this just to enjoy the attention of others.

The feeling was exhilarating. She suddenly thought that being a completely unnoticed background character in real life wasn't such a big deal. With the internet being so developed, she could just show off online.

At the same time, in a rather messy four person university dorm room, the author known as "Wo Zuiqiang" had just woken up. His head still felt a bit dizzy, a dull ache throbbing behind his eyes. Yesterday, he had gone out for barbecue and drinks with a few buddies. Despite usually having decent alcohol tolerance, he had gotten lightheaded after just two or three bottles of beer.

In that state, after returning to the dorm, he had even written several chapters. He almost admired himself for it. He remembered feeling amazing at the time, ideas flowing endlessly, because he felt like he had brought a character named Zhang Jiajia to life.

"Holy shit. What ideas flowing endlessly? I must have been drunk on fake booze and gone insane yesterday."

Only then did Wo Zuiqiang remember what he had written. He rolled straight off the top bunk, his feet hitting the cluttered floor, and rushed to open his laptop. He pulled up the page for Super King of Psychic Powers. To his shock, he saw a red highlighted tip in the review section.

A red highlight meant someone had tipped at least fifty thousand Qidian coins. That's five hundred yuan.

Then Wo Zuiqiang saw that the tip was actually one hundred thousand Qidian coins, and he instantly got fired up. He had started writing web novels since entering university and had been flopping nonstop. Only in his senior year had this book finally shown some promise. At the very least, while his classmates were still lost about what jobs to look for, he didn't have to worry about that.

Graduates from a third rate university like his would be lucky to earn three to four thousand a month. Meanwhile, this book was already bringing him five to six thousand a month in manuscript fees. That was still because he was lazy. Writing two updates a day, four thousand words total, already felt like saving the world to him. Yesterday, he had directly written six chapters, twelve thousand words, which had scared even himself.

Could it be that this rich reader saw his sudden six chapter burst and, without a word, rewarded him with a League Leader? This was his very first League Leader since he started writing. His first ever League Leader. No wonder he was so excited.

Only then did he notice the rich reader's nickname. It was actually "Youyue," and the gender was marked female. She had even fully subscribed to the book. That made him even more excited. Could it be a female fan? Did his loser gets superpowers, shows off, slaps faces, and builds a harem type of novel actually have female readers?

He didn't get to be happy for long before he noticed the flood of curses in the review section. When he opened QQ, he realized his reader group had exploded as well. There had only been a bit over two hundred readers in the group to begin with, yet dozens of them had already quit.
