Chapter 5 - The Secret of the Jungle Temple

Chapter5

The ancient temple stood silently in the middle of the jungle.

Tall trees surrounded it from every side, their branches forming a thick green roof above. Sunlight barely touched the moss-covered stones of the temple.

Rajveer and Meera slowly stepped inside.

The air inside felt cold and mysterious.

The walls were covered with strange carvings—animals, trees, rivers, and a girl standing in the middle of the jungle.

Meera looked closely at the carvings.

"It feels like these pictures are telling a story," she said quietly.

Rajveer nodded.

"Yes… and it feels like the jungle itself is the main character."

Meera lightly touched one of the carvings.

Suddenly she froze.

"Rajveer… look at this."

Rajveer stepped closer.

The carving showed a girl surrounded by glowing vines and trees.

And the girl looked strangely similar to Meera.

Rajveer raised an eyebrow.

"Well… that's interesting."

Meera crossed her arms.

"Don't start joking again."

Rajveer grinned.

"What? Maybe you really are the Queen of the Jungle."

Meera rolled her eyes.

"Keep talking and I'll push you out of this temple."

Rajveer laughed.

Their playful teasing echoed softly in the silent temple.

But suddenly something strange happened.

The large stone plate in the center of the temple floor started shaking.

Meera stepped back.

"Did you feel that?"

Rajveer looked down.

The stone plate slowly moved aside, revealing a hidden staircase going underground.

Both of them stared at it in surprise.

"A secret passage," Meera whispered.

Rajveer crouched and looked down the dark stairs.

"It probably leads to the real secret of this temple."

Meera's curiosity immediately grew.

"Then what are we waiting for?"

Rajveer quickly stopped her.

"Wait."

"What if something dangerous is down there?"

Meera smirked.

"Afraid?"

Rajveer crossed his arms.

"I'm not afraid. I'm just smarter than you."

Meera laughed.

"Excuses."

Rajveer sighed.

"Fine. But I go first."

"No way," Meera said.

"I'm going first."

"Why?"

"Because you're scared."

Rajveer shook his head.

"I'm not scared. I just don't trust your balance on stairs."

Meera pretended to be offended.

"You're impossible."

After a moment of arguing, they both carefully started going down the stairs.

The deeper they went, the colder the air became.

Finally they reached the bottom.

In front of them was a huge underground chamber.

Stone pillars supported the ceiling.

Torches on the walls burned with a strange blue flame.

In the center stood a large stone statue.

When Meera saw the statue, she stopped walking.

The statue was of a young woman.

And the woman looked exactly like her.

Rajveer looked stunned.

"This is getting creepy."

Meera slowly stepped closer to the statue.

"Why does it look like me?"

Before Rajveer could answer—

A loud hissing sound echoed in the chamber.

"Sssssssss…"

Both of them turned around quickly.

From a dark corner, a massive snake slowly emerged.

It was enormous—easily longer than ten meters.

Its scales shined like dark metal.

Meera stepped back in fear.

"Rajveer…"

Rajveer grabbed a long wooden stick lying on the ground.

"Stay behind me."

The giant snake slithered closer.

Its red eyes were fixed on them.

Rajveer stood firmly in front of Meera.

"If it attacks, run."

Meera shook her head.

"I'm not leaving you."

Rajveer smiled slightly.

"Stubborn."

Suddenly the snake lunged forward.

Meera gasped.

At that moment her hands began glowing again with soft green light.

Wind rushed through the underground chamber.

Vines suddenly burst out from cracks in the stone walls.

They wrapped around the giant snake like living ropes.

The snake struggled violently.

But the vines held it tightly.

After a few seconds the creature finally escaped and slithered back into the darkness.

The chamber became silent again.

Rajveer slowly lowered the stick.

"Okay… now I'm officially impressed."

Meera stared at her glowing hands.

"I didn't even try to do that."

Rajveer smiled.

"Well… the jungle clearly likes you."

Meera looked at him.

"And you?"

Rajveer shrugged.

"Apparently I'm just the bodyguard."

Meera laughed.

"Good. Every jungle queen needs a bodyguard."

Their laughter echoed softly in the chamber.

After calming down, they continued exploring the underground room.

In one corner they found a stone chest.

Rajveer opened it carefully.

Inside was a flat stone tablet covered with ancient writing.

Rajveer studied the symbols.

After a moment, his expression changed.

"What does it say?" Meera asked.

Rajveer hesitated.

"It says… the power of the jungle awakens only in someone connected to the bloodline of the jungle guardians."

Meera looked confused.

"Which bloodline?"

Rajveer pointed to the name carved at the bottom.

"Rajveer lineage."

Meera blinked.

"Wait… that's your name."

Rajveer quickly looked away.

"It's probably a coincidence."

But inside his mind, doubt began to grow.

Before they could discuss it further, thunder rumbled outside the temple.

They decided to leave the underground chamber.

As they stepped back into the jungle, dark clouds covered the sky.

Soon heavy rain began falling.

They ran under a large tree.

Rain poured down around them.

The jungle looked magical in the rain.

Water droplets sparkled on the leaves.

Mist rose from the ground.

Meera hugged herself slightly.

"It's cold."

Rajveer moved closer.

"Stand here."

She stood beside him under the tree.

For a moment neither of them spoke.

Their faces were very close.

Meera looked into his eyes.

"Rajveer… do you think we'll ever get off this island?"

Rajveer answered softly.

"Yes."

"Because I'm not leaving you here."

Meera's heart beat faster.

She quickly looked away.

To break the awkward silence, Rajveer said,

"Let's get food before we starve."

Meera smiled.

"Fish again?"

"Of course."

They returned to the waterfall.

While trying to catch fish, Meera slipped again and pulled Rajveer into the water.

Splash!

Rajveer laughed.

"You planned that."

"Maybe."

Suddenly bushes nearby moved violently.

Both froze.

A black panther slowly walked out of the shadows.

Its muscles rippled as it moved silently toward them.

Rajveer grabbed a stick again.

"Behind me."

The panther crouched, ready to attack.

Meera's hands glowed again.

Vines moved across the ground and blocked the panther's path.

The animal growled, then slowly backed away and disappeared into the jungle.

Rajveer exhaled.

"Okay… now I'm officially convinced."

"You control the jungle."

Meera looked thoughtful.

"Or maybe… the jungle is protecting us."

As they prepared to leave, Meera noticed something near a rock.

"Rajveer… look."

A small leather bag lay half buried in the mud.

Inside was an old jungle map.

One location on the map was marked with a red symbol.

Rajveer frowned.

"Someone else has been here before us."

At that moment, a faint whisper echoed through the trees.

"Meera…"

Both turned quickly.

But no one was there.

The jungle suddenly felt darker.

Unseen eyes were watching them.

And somewhere deep in the jungle…

Someone was hunting them.
