Chapter 98 - Learning Control 3.

The downward current dragged Shawn straight into the absolute center of the vortex, beneath the chaotic outer layers.

The stinging cuts across his limbs remained. The cold ache in his flesh persisted. But the relentless bombardment of invisible needles stopped.

The environment changed entirely.

Outside this inner circle, the tornado remained a violent wall of compressed, screaming air. Here, within the deepest core, a heavy order governed the space. Everything rotated at a terrifying velocity, yet nothing collided. The air currents slipped past one another in clean, effortless lines, revolving around a single axis like stars within a silent galaxy.

Shawn floated at the center of the orbit, his breathing ragged. Surrounded by darkness, his sharpened hearing tracked the movement of the air.

The storm itself held no malice. The violence existed only in the outer layers, where the air met resistance from the rock, the laboratory walls, and the Sovereign Manifest barrier. At the center, everything moved freely because movement was simply the nature of the element.

Shawn focused on a single spinning current nearby. Gathering the remaining warmth beneath his heart, he projected his will toward it, trying to force it to stop.

The instant his mind seized it, the current buckled. It twisted out of its orbit, sharpened, and carved a fresh line across his left wrist. Pain shattered his concentration, and the defensive spark he had gathered dissolved back into the void.

He tried again.

Choosing a different current, he pushed harder, demanding it obey.

The compressed air rejected him instantly, fracturing into three thin spikes that tore through his shoulder.

He tried a third time, forcing his core to release a harsh pulse.

The nearby current became unstable. A dozen invisible needles formed from the disturbance, peppering his legs and leaving him gasping for breath.

He continued until there was nothing left.

His will was spent. His pathways were exhausted. His muscles could no longer hold their tension. His right arm dropped heavily to his side.

He stopped trying to conquer the storm.

The moment he stopped fighting, a thin current brushed across his open fingers. It slid over his skin like cool water before continuing along its orbit.

Another current followed, grazing his neck without causing the slightest harm.

Shawn's mind quietly pieced everything together. He relied on observation alone, guided only by touch and sound.

Every attempt to force the wind had made it violent.

Every struggle to master it had intensified the attacks.

The moment he tried to dominate it, the resonance collapsed completely.

This was not a spiritual trial. It was a physical law.

The wind was a tuning fork, and his core had become another. The element existed to move without restraint. By trying to bind it, he had created the very friction that tore him apart.

Shawn slowly extended his right hand, leaving his palm completely open.

He aligned the rhythm of his core with the rhythm of the current, allowing his body to become nothing more than a bridge between himself and the world.

The current circled his fingers once.

Without a single command, it settled naturally around his forearm, flowing in a slow, steady loop.

A second current joined it, slipping effortlessly into the same orbit along the path of least resistance.

Then a third.

Not because Shawn had called them, but because there was no longer any friction to repel them.

Slowly, the primitive defensive currents reformed around his bleeding body. They moved in perfect harmony with the silent galaxy revolving around him.

Far below, inside the open laboratory, the pressure in the air gradually returned to normal. The groaning around the iron doors softened.

The servants remained gripping the perimeter pillars, but their terrified breathing slowly steadied as they looked toward the sky.

Morgan leaned over the edge of the platform, his eyes fixed on the boy suspended within the pale light. He watched the enormous funnel above the manor lose its chaotic edges as the outer walls of the tornado settled into a smooth, silent rotation.

"The pressure is dropping," Morgan said quietly. "The storm is losing force."

Boulder stood motionless beside him, his gaze never leaving Shawn.

"The storm is not stopping, Morgan," he said calmly.

"He is."

High above the mountain, Shawn remained suspended at the heart of the vortex. Thin crimson cuts covered his body. His clothes were torn, and every muscle trembled with exhaustion.

Yet beneath his ribs, the newly born core no longer struggled against the sky.

Air Manipulation answered him because his entire life had embodied the same truth as the wind itself.

An absolute refusal to be restrained.

He had stopped trying to change the element.

He had changed himself.
