Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: coffee

The sound of birds chirping woke me up.

"Yaaawn… I should get ready," I muttered.

Time passed quickly.

Soon enough, I was back at school, sitting in class while the teacher rambled endlessly about math.

My fever was already gone, but I still couldn't focus.

I kept thinking about what happened the other day… when I answered that question on the board.

How did I know the answer so easily?

"Hey! Haruto!"

I jumped slightly. "What do you want?" I asked quickly.

Riku looked at me with concern. "Haruto, are you okay? Class already ended."

I blinked in confusion. "What?"

"You were staring out the window the entire time. Come on, Rina's waiting for us at the gate."

Still puzzled, I instinctively touched my forehead.

"Yeah, sure… just wait. I'm going to put my books in my locker."

"Are you alright, Haruto? Did your fever come back?" Riku asked.

"No, it didn't. Now come on."

I placed my books in my locker and walked down the hallway with Riku.

But as we walked, my thoughts kept spinning.

What is happening to me?

"Hey, you two!" a voice called out. "Why are you taking so long?"

"Sorry," Riku replied. "Haruto's half asleep."

"I'm what now—"

Before I could finish, my elbow "accidentally" jabbed his stomach.

Riku immediately dropped to his knees, trembling in pain.

"Couldn't you take a joke…?" he groaned.

"Come on, you two. Let's go!" Rina said.

We ended up visiting a café that had just opened. The place looked clean and modern, and the cool air-conditioning felt refreshing.

A waiter soon arrived and placed our drinks on the table.

Suddenly, a strange thought crossed my mind.

The coffee is going to spill.

"Huh?" I muttered.

"Yo, Haruto, are you okay?" Rina asked.

"I think he's going crazy," Riku said, shaking his head.

"Here's your coffee," the waiter said politely.

Just then, a small kid ran past and accidentally bumped into him.

The tray tilted—

Coffee spilled across the table.

"Ahh! I'm so sorry!" the waiter panicked.

Riku waved his hand. "Oh, no, we're okay."

Rina spoke calmly. "But may we request a new coffee?"

The waiter nodded quickly. "Yes, of course. Right away. Let me clean this mess first."

After chatting for a while, we eventually left the café.

Riku and Rina continued talking as we walked, but I stayed quiet the entire time.

"Dude… are you not feeling okay?" Riku asked.

"Yeah… I think so," I replied.

"You should take better care of yourself," Rina said softly, looking away.

Soon we parted ways.

As I walked home alone, the same thought kept repeating in my mind.

What is happening to me?
