Chapter 22 - These Are Ours — Don’t Even Think About Stealing Them!

As for Feitan's height…

Well, there was no need to mention it too much.

Even more than ten years later, he would only grow to about 155 cm.

It was practically his lifelong sore spot.

Only Phinks—his partner who had fought through life and death with him—could casually bring up Feitan's height without thinking.

If it had been anyone else, Feitan would have already started a fight.

But now that they had a suitable destination, everyone quickly decided to head there.

And once they moved, they wouldn't need to sneak around the church area anymore.

That place caused too much attention.

It was neither convenient nor safe.

So after making the decision, the group immediately set off.

Before leaving, however, Arvin Locke looked up toward a certain window of the church.

He smiled slightly in that direction.

Then he followed Phinks and Feitan toward their home.

Inside the screening room.

"Did that guy… notice us just now?"

Little Pakunoda noticed Arvin Locke's smile before he left and asked in surprise.

She was certain she hadn't mistaken it.

Because Arvin Locke had clearly looked directly toward their window.

"I read somewhere before that people are very sensitive to being watched."

Little Chrollo didn't seem surprised at all.

"We've been staring at him for quite a while. It's normal that he noticed."

As he spoke, a faint smile curved across his lips.

"He's quite an interesting person."

"I'd really like the chance to get to know him."

After Arvin Locke and the others left, more people gradually gathered around the tree where they had been earlier.

Everyone who arrived could smell the rich fragrance lingering in the air.

One by one, they showed expressions of deep intoxication and greed.

"Haaa…"

Some people even inhaled deeply, trying to absorb every trace of the scent into their lungs.

But that behavior immediately drew angry glares from others.

Soon someone suggested that the delicious food that had been here must have been hidden away by whoever arrived first.

In Meteor City, that was enough reason.

People began arguing.

Arguments turned into fights.

Soon the place erupted into another chaotic brawl.

After all—

In Meteor City, conflict never disappears.

Meanwhile, Arvin Locke, Uvogin, and Machi successfully followed Phinks and Feitan to Feitan's house.

Although Uvogin was still annoyed with Phinks, if there was a chance to steal some food from them later—

He would absolutely take it.

Feitan's house wasn't large.

Like Arvin Locke's, the exterior looked worn and shabby.

But the interior was slightly better furnished.

Besides the bed, there were simple tables, chairs, and a small cabinet for storing things.

Of course, everything looked old and battered.

Still, considering everything came from the garbage heaps, it was already good enough.

Arvin Locke's attention, however, was focused on something else—

A rotten little tree inside Feitan's home.

Fortunately, the Plant Modification Agent only required a plant.

It didn't strictly require the plant to be alive.

So Arvin Locke calmly took out two more modification agents and loaded them into the syringe.

Now that he had received Phinks' request, his stock had increased again.

Pfft.

He inserted the syringe into the tree.

Then—

Under the watchful gazes of Phinks and Feitan, whose curiosity quickly turned into shock—

The branch sprouted.

It expanded.

It bloomed.

It bore fruit.

Soon, a large black coconut-like fruit appeared.

"So that's how your food is made…"

Phinks muttered absentmindedly, clearly stunned.

Feitan didn't say anything.

But his normally narrowed eyes widened as far as they possibly could.

He stared at the newly formed fruit as if trying to completely understand how such a thing was even possible.

However—

All of their shock and confusion disappeared the moment the fruit was opened.

Crack.

The rich aroma rushed straight into their noses, stimulating their brains instantly.

Both of them shuddered.

All thoughts of curiosity, shock, and confusion vanished.

Replacing them was only one thing—

Overwhelming hunger.

Inside the fruit were two dishes.

One was a bowl of pork cutlet rice, piled high with thick slices of crispy pork chop.

The other was a steaming plate of fried noodles, loaded with bean sprouts, shredded meat, and vegetables.

These two dishes—completely unfamiliar to them—sat right in front of their eyes.

Their throats rolled uncontrollably.

Even Uvogin and Machi, who had already eaten earlier, couldn't help it.

Saliva began filling their mouths again.

When Uvogin saw the food—

His eyes slowly turned suspicious.

"Ah-ha! These are ours — don't even think about stealing them!!"

Before Uvogin could make a move, Phinks reacted immediately.

Almost as if he had already predicted it.

He quickly grabbed both dishes and held them far away.

"Don't think I don't know what you're planning, you bastard!"

Phinks glared fiercely at Uvogin.

"Your eyes and drool already gave you away!!"

"Huh? Was it that obvious?"

Uvogin wiped the corner of his mouth regretfully.

And sure enough—

There really was quite a lot of drool there.
