Chapter 2 — The Hidden Trials

Hogwarts — Age of the Founders, Year 1

The moon hung low over the castle towers, casting silver light across the courtyard. I moved through the shadows of the dungeons, past the newly carved stone corridors that hummed faintly with protective wards.

Beneath the castle, in the cavern where the basilisk egg rested, the air was thick with magic. The runes pulsed slowly, as if counting the heartbeat of something alive. I crouched before it, whispering in the language only it could understand:

"I am here… my child… feel my presence…"

Inside, the basilisk stirred. Its thoughts were primitive, confused, laced with anger.

"Who… isss this voice…? I will not obey…"

I spoke softly, the hiss of my Parseltongue filling the chamber:

"Not to obey… to learn. To grow… together."

Slytherin appeared silently behind me, his cloak brushing the stone.

"You are patient," he said. "Good. The basilisk will respect strength… but not fear. Remember this."

I nodded.

"I understand, master."

He gave a slight smirk.

"Do not call me that yet… you have much to prove."

Stage 1 — Serpent Mastery

Salazar guided me into the first trial: a pit filled with dozens of venomous snakes. The air reeked of damp scales and the faint tang of magic.

"Step carefully," he instructed. "Do not control them… lead them."

I took a deep breath and entered. The snakes hissed, curling, twisting, testing me. My heart beat steadily. I spoke in a low, soothing voice:

"Calm… calm… I mean no harm."

The snakes froze, their eyes locking on me. Slowly, the hissing softened to a ripple of trust.

Slytherin watched silently, nodding.

"You do not command them. You guide them. A true master leads without fear, without force."

I understood. This was the first step—not just for me, but for the basilisk waiting below. The egg pulsed faintly as if sensing the success.

"Who… issss this…?" the basilisk wondered inside the shell.

"I am here… to train… not to dominate."

Hogwarts Reacts

Students had begun to notice my strange habits. Some whispered behind my back:

Gryffindors: "He spends hours in the dungeons talking to snakes… dangerous, I tell you."

Ravenclaws: "He studies creatures, ecosystems… and something else… secretive."

Hufflepuffs: "I hope the animals are safe… he seems… gentle."

Slytherins: "He's ambitious… like Salazar himself."

Even during class, my attention drifted toward magical creatures, observing movement, magic, and instinct. Every lesson with Slytherin became a subtle test of my patience and perception.

The Egg Awakens

Over weeks, my bond with the basilisk egg deepened. Each successful trial with snakes sent a pulse through the runes, a tiny vibration that the creature inside felt.

Its thoughts slowly shifted:

"I… hear… this one… calm… not fear… perhaps… trust?"

I spoke again:

"You are not alone… we will learn together… my child."

The words were foreign to it, but they carried intention. Something deep within stirred—a flicker of recognition.

Salazar observed silently.

"Few have earned even this small acknowledgment," he murmured. "Patience… and persistence… that is your path."

I nodded. In my mind, the trials were more than mastery of serpents—they were lessons for myself, the first step toward raising a creature unlike any the world had seen.
