Chapter 116 - 116. Path of Haki Mastery

Chapter 116: The Path of Haki Mastery

The Going Merry swayed gently on the vast ocean, the sky clear and the sun high above, casting a warm golden glow over the open sea. The crew was gathered on the deck, their usual banter and excitement replaced by a focused determination as Luffy took the lead in a new training session. This time, the lesson was about Haki, the power that resided in every living thing, the force that would allow them to survive the battles ahead.

"Alright, everyone, focus!" Luffy's voice rang out, confident and reassuring. His hands rested comfortably behind his head as he addressed the crew. The wind tousled his hair, but his stance remained solid, like a warrior who had mastered the ways of combat and the mind.

Sanji stood to the side, one hand on his hip, giving a skeptical glance at the group. "I still do not get how we are supposed to manifest Haki," he muttered, kicking his foot up to his other knee, clearly unimpressed by the idea.

Johnny, standing next to him, stretched his arms, his posture more relaxed but still clearly intrigued. "We are supposed to push our willpower out of our bodies? Sounds like it could be useful, especially with the kind of fights we have been getting into."

"Exactly," Luffy replied, smiling warmly. "Haki is your willpower made manifest. There are three types. Observation Haki lets you sense others. Armament Haki lets you coat yourself and your weapons in an invisible armor. We are going to start with Armament Haki. The goal is to coat your fists in that invisible armor. You will need to feel the willpower flowing through your body and push it outward."

Zoro cracked his knuckles, looking over at Luffy with a competitive glint in his eyes. "Sounds easy enough. Let us see if I can make mine stronger than yours."

Luffy chuckled. "It is not about strength at first. Focus on control. The strength comes later."

As Luffy began to demonstrate, he picked up a wooden board from the deck. He held it in one hand and placed his other fist against it. "Watch," he said.

He concentrated. His body still. His breathing steady. Then he punched.

The board did not splinter. It did not crack. It simply stopped. Luffy's fist was pressed against the wood, and the wood was intact. But when he pulled his fist back, there was a dent. A deep, perfect impression of his knuckles pressed into the grain.

Sanji leaned forward. "What the hell? You did not even hit it hard."

"I did not need to," Luffy said. "Armament Haki. It is invisible. You cannot see it. But you can feel it. The hardness. The density. It is like my fist became steel for that moment."

He held up his own arm and punched himself in the forearm. The sound was not flesh hitting flesh. It was a dull thud, like wood hitting wood. He did not flinch. There was no bruise.

"The Haki coats your body," he explained. "It protects you. It strengthens you. And if you can learn to extend it to your weapons, even a wooden sword can cut steel."

Usopp's eyes went wide. "You punched yourself. On purpose. And it did not hurt."

"It hurt a little," Luffy admitted. "But less than it would have without Haki."

The crew members took their positions, each of them focusing intently on the task at hand. Sanji gritted his teeth, attempting to gather his will. His brow furrowed. He punched the wooden board. Nothing happened. The board did not dent. His knuckles ached.

"Dammit..." Sanji muttered under his breath. "I just cannot get it."

"Do not be too hard on yourself," Luffy said encouragingly. "It takes time. Remember, focus on your breathing and let your willpower flow naturally."

Johnny was up next, his fist positioned like Luffy's as he closed his eyes in concentration. He punched the board. A faint dent appeared, barely visible, then faded. It did not hold.

"Not bad," Luffy encouraged. "You are on the right track. Just a little more focus and control."

Nami, standing off to the side, watched the others with a mix of curiosity and skepticism. She had not yet attempted the technique, preferring to watch the results of others' efforts first.

"How long do you think it will take for us to get it right?" Nami asked, folding her arms across her chest.

Luffy smiled at her. "Everyone is different. For some, it will take a while. Others might get it right away. But do not worry. We will get there."

Usopp, however, had been quietly observing and testing the air around him. His fist was steady as he punched the board. A small dent appeared. Not deep, but visible. He punched again. The dent grew.

"Whoa..." Usopp's eyes widened in disbelief. He had done it. "Look at this! It is actually working!"

His fist left a clear impression in the wood. The dent was shallow but unmistakable. He grinned triumphantly. "I did it! I really did it!"

"Nice work, Usopp!" Luffy cheered, clapping his hands. "You have got a good grasp on it. That is a solid start."

Usopp beamed with pride. "I knew I had it in me!"

Zoro, who had been struggling to even leave a mark, scowled but was visibly impressed. "Lucky bastard," he grumbled. "I can barely get a flicker."

"Keep practicing," Luffy encouraged. "It will click for you. Just focus on the flow of your will. Do not rush it."

Sanji, still frustrated, turned his attention to Usopp's dent. "Dammit, Usopp, you got it the first try! What is your secret?"

Usopp laughed, scratching his head. "No secret. Just pure talent, Sanji!"

Johnny chuckled softly, clearly enjoying the lighter mood among the group. "It is more than just talent. It is about trust. Trusting the will inside you."

Nami stepped forward, her brow furrowing as she tried to punch the board. Her fist connected. Nothing happened. She tried again. Nothing.

"I cannot do it," she sighed, her shoulders slumping. "It is just... not happening."

Luffy walked over to her, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Do not worry, Nami. It is alright. Everyone has their own pace. Just take your time, and remember to breathe."

Zoro crossed his arms, still focusing on his own fists. He could not help but chuckle. "I did not expect Haki training to be so difficult. But I will get it eventually."

Luffy's smile softened, and he gestured toward the crew with a wave of his hand. "Remember, this is just the beginning. There is so much more to learn about Haki and how to harness its true power. It is about pushing your limits and trusting yourself. Do not worry if you are not perfect right away."

The crew continued to practice, with Usopp's dents becoming deeper and more consistent. He could not help but look at the board with a sense of accomplishment.

As the sun began to dip lower in the sky, the crew took a break, their energy drained but their spirits high. Despite the challenges, they knew they had made progress.

"I cannot wait to see what we can do with this power," Johnny said, wiping his forehead.

Luffy gave a confident nod. "This is just the first step. Together, we will get even stronger."

With the deck of the Going Merry alive with the energy of their training, the crew could not help but feel a new sense of unity and strength. They had taken the first step toward mastering Haki, and with Luffy leading them, the possibilities were endless.

---

The sun hung low in the sky, its rays casting a warm, golden hue over the Going Merry as it glided steadily through the sea. On the ship's deck, the crew was hard at work trying to master a new skill. One that would elevate their combat abilities and allow them to harness the power of Haki. The last few hours had been spent training, but the frustration and excitement of trying to manifest Armament Haki were palpable.

Usopp, still beaming with pride at his success, stood next to the wooden board with the dents from his fist. His arms were crossed, a smug grin plastered on his face.

"Look at this," Usopp boasted. "A true masterpiece! It is so clean and deep. It is almost like I could use it in a fight!"

"Yeah, yeah, Usopp," Zoro grumbled, still struggling to leave even the faintest mark on his own board. His face was red with the effort, and the tiny impressions he made barely lasted a second before fading. "I get it. You are the genius of the crew. Can we move on now?"

Johnny, who had also been having difficulty, let out an exasperated sigh. "It is not even funny anymore, Usopp. You are making it look easy."

Just then, Nami stepped forward. "Alright, I think I have had enough of this," she said with a slight smirk, giving Luffy a sideways glance. "Let me see if I can do it."

Luffy raised an eyebrow, impressed by her determination. "Go for it, Nami. It is all about finding your focus. Remember to breathe and feel the will within you."

The crew watched in suspense as Nami closed her eyes, her brow furrowing in concentration. She raised her fist and slowly began to focus, feeling her Haki as Luffy had instructed them all. She punched the board. Nothing. She punched again. A faint dent appeared, shallow but visible. She punched a third time. The dent held.

"Well, that is a surprise," Nami said, her voice full of smug satisfaction, though she tried to hide it. The dent was small, but it was there.

"I... I did it," she muttered to herself, her eyes widening in disbelief. She looked at the others, who were staring back at her in stunned silence.

The mood shifted from quiet concentration to an outburst of incredulous laughter. Johnny was the first to speak, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Of course. Nami gets it right on the first try. Just like always."

Sanji was next, scowling. "I swear, Nami, you get everything without even trying! It is like you are some sort of Haki prodigy or something!"

Zoro, who had already been frustrated by his own lack of progress, slammed his fist against the deck with a groan. "No way! This is a joke! You are all showing off now, huh? First Usopp, now Nami?" He threw his hands up. "What, am I the only one who is struggling here?"

Luffy chuckled at the scene unfolding before him. "Do not worry, guys. It is not about talent. It is about learning how to focus. Nami and Usopp were able to find their focus quicker than the rest of you, but that does not mean it is easier for them. It just means they are in tune with it in a different way."

He turned to Johnny, Sanji, and Zoro, who were still muttering amongst themselves. "You guys have more physical strength and stamina compared to Nami and Usopp. Your Haki is naturally larger, so it is harder to control it. It is like when I first taught you to feel your presence back in Cocoyashi Village. You were all so focused on trying to force it out that you did not allow your will to flow freely. It is the same thing here."

Zoro raised an eyebrow, still looking skeptical. "That does not explain why Nami can do it without breaking a sweat."

Luffy smiled. "It is not that simple. Nami and Usopp have a more refined, controlled will. They do not have the same raw power as you guys, so they are able to manifest their Haki without it overwhelming them."

Usopp grinned and flexed his muscles, exaggerating his movements. "That is right! You guys could learn a lot from us, you know? You should just focus on your weaknesses like me and Nami."

"Shut up, Usopp," Zoro snapped, turning his focus back to his own failed attempts.

Johnny, who had been quietly observing, spoke up, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "So, you are saying we need to work on focusing our will, right? Like, control it instead of letting it run wild?"

"Exactly," Luffy nodded. "And you can think of it this way. Remember the fight with Mr. 3? Zoro, you used your Haki when you were in a desperate situation. That is when your will really came through."

Zoro winced at the memory, his thoughts drifting back to the chaotic battle. "Yeah, I remember that," he muttered. "But it was not like I could control it. I just did what I had to in the moment."

"That is the key," Luffy continued. "Desperation, focus, a moment where you truly need to fight for your life. That is when you are able to draw out your Haki to its fullest potential. The trick is to recreate that kind of moment in your mind."

The crew looked at each other, considering Luffy's words. Vivi, who had been quietly observing from the side with Karoo, piped up.

"Do you really think they will be able to do it? I mean, it seems like everyone is having trouble, even with all that willpower inside them."

Luffy glanced over at Vivi and Karoo, offering her a reassuring smile. "It is not about having power, Vivi. It is about learning to tap into that power. It is the hardest part. But once they get it, they will be able to control it at will."

Sanji, still frustrated, sighed deeply and then raised an eyebrow. "Alright, so we are supposed to pretend we are about to die and see if we can unlock more Haki power? Sounds like a bad idea. What if we just blow up the ship instead?"

Johnny chuckled. "I think we are all more likely to blow up ourselves than the ship, Sanji."

"Yeah, well, maybe blowing up the ship would not be so bad," Zoro grumbled, clearly fed up with his lack of progress. "At least I would get a decent rest."

The crew laughed, the tension easing somewhat as they returned to their training. Zoro, Johnny, and Sanji closed their eyes, trying to picture themselves in a dangerous, high pressure situation. Slowly, each of them tried to recreate the urgency and desperation they had felt in their past battles, hoping it would unlock their Haki.

"Focus, focus..." Sanji muttered under his breath, while Johnny steadied his hands, his face serious. Zoro was lost in his own thoughts, imagining himself in the heat of battle once more.

Nami and Usopp, meanwhile, exchanged a glance, both feeling proud of their progress. Usopp's dents were deep and consistent, while Nami's were smaller but stable.

"Looks like we have got it," Nami said with a grin, her hands resting at her sides. "It is not that hard, is it?"

Usopp smiled and shrugged. "I guess we are just naturally talented, huh?"

But Luffy stepped forward, the playful mood shifting to something more serious. "Alright, everyone. You have all made progress. Keep at it, and remember. Do not force it. Let your Haki come to you."

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the crew continued their training, each of them growing stronger with every passing moment. They had taken their first step toward mastering Haki, and with Luffy's guidance, there was no limit to what they could achieve.

"Come on, Zoro, just focus," Luffy encouraged, watching his crew with a sharp eye. "It is not about forcing it. You are too used to using physical strength. Think about the moment when you had to fight Mr. 3. Remember how you felt when everything seemed impossible?"

Zoro grunted, his hands trembling slightly as he punched the board once more. A faint dent appeared, shallow and weak, but it held for a moment before fading. "Yeah, yeah," he muttered, his frustration mounting. "I get it. But it is not working for me. Maybe I am just not cut out for this Haki stuff."

Luffy shook his head, smiling. "You have already got it, Zoro. You just have to learn how to control it. Trust me. Once you get it, it is like second nature."

Meanwhile, Johnny, who was also struggling, let out a groan, the small dent on his board fading almost instantly. "This is harder than I thought."

"Yeah, tell me about it," Sanji grumbled, attempting his own punch, which only left a faint mark before disappearing. "My legs hurt from all this concentration."

Usopp chuckled at their grumbling. "Hey, do not feel bad. You guys are just trying too hard. It is about finding a balance."

Nami smiled at the playful exchange but could not help but feel a little smug. The others still had not caught up to her. She crossed her arms, feeling a sense of satisfaction as she looked at the dent she had left in the board. It was smaller than Usopp's, but it was stable. She was starting to enjoy the feeling of power, a connection to the will that flowed through the world.

But just as she was about to offer another smug remark to Usopp, something strange happened. Her eyes widened, and she suddenly staggered. Her knees buckled beneath her. Her body began to shake. Violently. Uncontrollably.

"Nami?!" Usopp exclaimed, dropping to his knees beside her. "What is wrong?!"

Nami tried to speak, but only a gasp escaped her lips. Her hand clutched her head. Her face was pale, her lips nearly white. The shaking grew worse. Her eyes rolled back.

She collapsed.

Unconscious. Completely. Her body went limp in Usopp's arms.

"Nami!" Gin shouted, his voice filled with concern. "What happened?!"

"She just... she just passed out!" Usopp cried, his voice trembling as panic set in.

Luffy was at her side in an instant. His hands moved to her forehead, her wrist, checking her pulse, her temperature. His face was serious, but calm. Inside, however, his mind was racing.

'This is not happening. I changed too much. She was not in a bikini. She was not walking through the jungle half naked. I kept her on the ship. I kept her safe. This should not be happening.'

He cursed himself. In his mind, Ethan Cole was screaming.

He looked at her arm. Covered by her sleeve. He could not see the bite. But he knew it was there. He knew because he had seen this episode a dozen times. He knew because he had read the manga. He knew because he had spent years of his life memorizing the story, and no matter what he did, the story was still happening.

'Damn it.'

"She is not unconscious from Haki overexertion," Luffy said, keeping his voice steady. "Something else is wrong."

"What do you mean?" Johnny asked, his face pale.

Luffy looked at Nami's pale face, at the sweat on her brow, at the way her body trembled even in unconsciousness. He made a decision.

"Vivi, help me get her inside. Now."

Vivi nodded, her face serious. She took Nami's arm and draped it over her shoulder. Luffy took the other side. Together, they lifted her and carried her below deck.

The crew watched in stunned silence. The training was forgotten. The boards were forgotten. Only Nami mattered.

As Luffy and Vivi disappeared into the cabin, the rest of the crew stood on the deck, their faces drawn, their hearts heavy. The sun had set. The sky was dark. And something was very, very wrong.
