Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 – The Truth About the Clones

The hidden lab was silent now, but Ava's mind was racing. Her parents' files, the mysterious stranger, the non-human soldiers—they all pointed to one undeniable fact: the world she knew was a lie.

"Why… why clones?" Ava whispered, flipping through the documents. "Why did they make so many of them?"

The stranger leaned against a console, watching her carefully. "The clones were never meant to replace humans. They were created to protect a secret… and your parents' work threatened the wrong people."

Ava's chest tightened. "So… my parents… they weren't just gone because of an accident? They were targeted?"

"Yes," the stranger said, voice calm but sharp. "They tried to create something to stop the chaos—the clones were supposed to be the answer, but the system turned against them."

Nick stepped beside her, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "Hey… we're here. You don't have to face this alone."

Ava's heart skipped. Even with the revelation, his presence made her feel braver, stronger. "Thanks… Nick," she murmured.

Julie and John were scanning the lab, finding clues about the clone army's operations. "These files show the clones are controlled by a central system," John explained. "If we can reach it… maybe we can stop them."

Suddenly, alarms blared again. Red lights flashed. Somewhere in the lab, the clones had detected movement.

"Move!" Julie shouted.

They ran through corridors lined with machinery and glass tubes, dodging traps. One clone lunged at Ava, and Nick grabbed her arm, yanking her aside just in time.

"Careful!" he hissed, pulling her close for a heartbeat. Their eyes met—wide, adrenaline-fueled, and electric. Ava felt a strange warmth despite the danger.

"Thanks…" she whispered.

They pressed forward, finally reaching a massive chamber at the center of the lab. A huge console flickered with screens showing maps, clone data, and—most shocking—images of Ava herself as a child, watched and monitored by scientists she didn't recognize.

Ava's hands trembled. "They… they were always watching me?"

The stranger stepped forward. "Yes. Your parents created the first original you, Ava. The rest… the clones… were meant to protect you from the forces that wanted to erase your family."

Ava's breath caught. Memories of her parents, the pendant, the folder—it all clicked. "So… I'm… special?" she asked, voice barely audible.

Nick squeezed her shoulder. "You've always been special, Ava. Don't ever forget that."

Suddenly, the floor shook. An alarm flashed across the main screen: Clone army approaching—full protocol activated.

Julie groaned. "They found us. We need a plan. Now."

Ava swallowed hard, gripping her pendant. The truth was terrifying, but for the first time, she felt ready. Her parents' legacy, the secrets, the clones—it all led to this. And with her friends—and Nick—by her side, she would face it head-on.

Because the world was unnatural, dangerous, and full of lies—but Ava was alive, and she was ready to fight.
