Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 – A Life Without Him

Emily woke up early the next morning.

For a moment, she forgot where she was.

The unfamiliar ceiling of the hotel room slowly reminded her.

Last night.

The divorce.

The pregnancy.

Everything felt like a strange dream.

Emily sat up slowly and placed a hand over her stomach.

The baby was still too small for her to feel anything.

But somehow, she already felt a quiet connection.

"You and I," she whispered softly.

"We'll be fine."

She got out of bed and walked toward the window.

The city outside was already busy.

Cars filled the streets.

People rushed to work.

Life continued as usual.

But Emily knew her life had completely changed.

She could not stay in this city anymore.

Alexander Carter lived here.

The Carter family lived here.

Sooner or later, the news of their divorce would spread everywhere.

And if Alexander ever discovered her pregnancy…

Everything would become complicated again.

Emily didn't want that.

She wanted a clean break.

A new beginning.

After thinking for a long time, she took out her phone and searched for flights.

There was one leaving tomorrow morning.

Destination: London.

Emily had studied there years ago.

She still had friends there.

Most importantly…

Alexander Carter would never think of looking for her there.

Emily booked the ticket without hesitation.

Once the booking confirmation appeared on the screen, she felt strangely relieved.

This was it.

Tomorrow, she would leave.

And she might never see Alexander Carter again.

Meanwhile, at the Carter Group.

Alexander sat in the conference room while several executives reported their projects.

But today, something felt off.

His attention kept drifting away.

"…Mr. Carter?"

The project manager called his name cautiously.

Alexander looked up.

"Yes?"

"We were asking about your decision on the new partnership proposal."

Alexander glanced at the documents briefly.

"Approved."

The meeting quickly ended.

As everyone left, his assistant walked over.

"Mr. Carter, Miss Sophia is waiting in your office."

Alexander nodded slightly.

"Alright."

When he entered the office, Sophia stood by the window with a gentle smile.

She was elegant and beautiful.

Exactly the kind of woman that matched someone like Alexander Carter.

"Alexander," she said warmly.

"You look tired."

"It's nothing," he replied.

Sophia stepped closer.

"I heard everything went smoothly yesterday."

Alexander didn't respond.

Sophia continued softly.

"That woman finally signed the divorce papers."

For some reason, the way she said "that woman" made Alexander slightly uncomfortable.

"Her name is Emily," he said calmly.

Sophia paused.

Then she smiled again.

"Of course."

"But now everything is finally settled."

She gently held Alexander's arm.

"We can start our life together."

Alexander remained silent.

For some reason, Emily's calm expression suddenly appeared in his mind again.
