Chapter 2 - Curses and Pulls

As the dizziness from the sudden injection of information faded I heard that voice again.

"Since you now have all the information you need its time to gamble." Said the voice excitement present in his voice.

It seems like this dude really loves gambling.

"Full disclosure. I've already decided upon what world to send you to and where you'll end up. I know this isn't according to proper procedure but with you being my personal project allowances have been made. I don't want to ending up somewhere like Classroom of the Elite where you can just walk over everyone there after a single afternoon."

'Son of a bitch.' I thought. 'Let me go there. Being able to overpower and entire world after a day sounds just like the afterlife I want.'

"But I also didn't want to send you somewhere you'd died in a single minute either. Like the Warhammer 40K universe. Some of the guys there could be an issue even to me. So I had to choose somewhere in the middle."

'On second thoughts maybe being his personal project isn't all that bad.'

"You will be going to the New World in Overlord. The Light Novel, not the game. There's a place there where I think you'll get a decent start to earn pulls. Don't want you shacking up some where cozy or getting kidnapped in day one either. Also, as a starter pack, I'll give you an option to spin for three Curses and depending upon the severity of the Curses you receive Pulls of higher ranks."

"You know what? I'm good. I'm sure I can make do without these, I'll be swimming in Pulls in a week, no a day. So lets just get started and there's no need to go through this much trouble for me." I reply quickly hoping the voice would let me go.

He did not.

Chuckling darkly the voice responded.

"Nonsense. It's no trouble at all. In fact let me get you started."

Mute (Severe)

Effect: You are a mute, being cursed to be unable to talk or communicate verbally in any way. At best, you can groan and shout.

Resolve Condition: Fix your vocal cords with an appropriate Elite or higher Healing or Biokinetic ability.

Reward ( Severe Curse): 1x Platinum Random Gacha Ticket

"Oh you motherfu---" The words die in my mouth as I struggle to make any sounds that resembles a proper word. The voice chuckles mirthfully as I keep trying to talk while sounding like a dying diesel engine.

"Give it up. Until you complete the resolve condition you are stuck with the curse stopping you from speaking. I suggest you spin for the other curses before I decide them for you."

With that ultimatum hanging over my head I quickly will the wheel of curses to spin.

Out of Shape (Medium)

Effect: Your body is weak and frail. You are unable to perform strenuous activities for long periods of time. You tire easily and are prone to injury. Your movement speed is reduced by 20%.

Resolve Condition: Complete a rigorous training regimen for 30 days.

Reward (Medium Curse): 1x Silver Random Gacha Ticket

Ok that's not great but it seems to be easily resolved. A month of training is something I should be able to manage. I spin the wheel one last time.

Lil' (MEDIUM Curse)

Effect: You are physically smaller than you should be, by a noticeable amount. This makes you slightly weaker and less durable, but you are also lighter and slightly more agile. You may also be treated as a child more often, for better or for worse.

Resolve Condition: None.

ANND this one can't be resolved. Great. Thankfully the penalties aren't too bad so it should be mitigated by the powers I get from the pulls. Speaking of pulls better use them fast before the asshole interferes with them.

You rolled 1x Platinum Random Gacha Ticket

Primordial Earth, Epic Ability

Allows you to control earth, dust and sand in your sensory range, allowing you to unleash giant blasts of sand, launch jagged boulders, and make stalagmites erupt.

You rolled 1x Silver Random Gacha Ticket

Intermediate Interfacing, Uncommon Skill

You are a tricky one, you know how to pick locks, pick pockets, figure out the kinks in mechanics and have a feeling for knowing your way around things. Your fingers may get a little restless.

You rolled 1x Silver Random Gacha Ticket

Photosynthesis, Rare Trait

Who cares about food or breathing? Natural sunlight is all you need in this life. You regenerate energy faster under sunlight and when under the sun you also feel satiated and don't need to breathe as your body can function off sunlight alone. Water is still needed though.

As the results of my Pulls appeared the voice spoke again.

"Seems like you have everything you need now. Off you go."

And with that I felt myself falling into the void.

================================================================================

As the void dissipated I felt myself land on some soft grass. I looked around me and saw that I was in the outskirts of a town or city that I could see in the distance. As I happened to look down I saw that the curse had changed my body to be that of a child, or a short teenager. I had never been very tall before I'd been murdered, standing height being at 5'7". But now I doubted I was a centimeter over 4'10".

The clothes I had been wearing were gone as well, replaced by a dark robe with faint purple runes etched at its edges and a larger one on the back. They weren't something that I recognized nor understood so I chose to ignore them after a lookover.

I read through the lists of rewards from my Pulls and mulled things over.

Photosynthesis would help me stave off hunger and that helped immensely since this robe didn't have pockets to hold any money. I doubted that my bank account had followed me into the afterlife either.

For shelter and water I would have to make use of Intermediate Interfacing, hopefully the wealthy people in the town ahead would be able to finance my livelihood until I finished earning enough Pulls to support myself.

Primordial Earth was my most powerful pull so far, having being the reward of a Platinum Ticket, and was going to be my go to for personal protection. Until I pulled something more subtle.

I then looked over my Curses, and well, cursed.

Mute was going to be a pain in the ass, to manage and to resolve. Being unable to communicate would make a lot of the things I could have done impossible now. Maybe the magic of this world would be able to heal it but I doubted it. Those tiers of magic were in the hands of powerful individuals, half of whom I couldn't meet and the other half I didn't want to meet.

Of course I would jump at the opportunity if it presented itself but for now I could only hope a future pull would help resolve this.

Second was Out of Shape. I could feel the curse tripling the amount of energy I used for any task I performed. I could also tell that even in my current body I should be able to do more than what I could. But the conditions to resolve it were fairly simple and easy so I wasn't too worried.

Lastly was Lil'. This one was a headscratcher. Would I stay this small forever? Or would my body grow as I aged, only at a slower pace. Or only grow to a certain height. Only time would tell. And since there was no way to resolve this curse, I decided not to worry about it.

Having taken stock of my situation, I slowly made my way to the town ahead of me.
