Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 The Bet with Shrek

Chapter 4 The Bet with Shrek

The dessert shop was filled with a wonderful aroma. Gojo Satoru, holding ten servings of edamame puree and whipped cream daifuku, found a seat by the window and eagerly unwrapped the oil paper package.

The round daifuku is wrapped in a delicate glutinous rice skin. When you bite into it, the smooth red bean paste mixed with sweet cream melts in your mouth. The sweet but not greasy taste makes his pale blue eyes light up instantly: Mmm... delicious!

He ate without any regard for his image, his cheeks bulging, not caring that there was cream on his hands and the corners of his mouth.

The ten servings of daifuku were quickly finished. He slumped into his chair, patted his slightly bulging belly, and sighed: "I'm so full... Sweets really are a treasure of the world."

After a short rest, the languid feeling of being full was replaced by boredom.

Gojo Satoru rested his chin on his hand and looked out the window at the street. He glanced at the herb and spirit beast shops and clicked his tongue with little interest: "I've finished recruiting students. I can't just wander around Soto City, can I?"

He listlessly called upon the system in his mind.

"Hey~ System, let's talk."

"What are your orders, host?" The cold, mechanical voice rang out precisely on time.

"Besides the main quest of recruiting students, are there any other fun things to do?"

Gojo Satoru spoke in a lazy tone, with a hint of complaint, "For example, those side quests in the games I played before I transmigrated, like fighting monsters, completing tasks, and finding treasures. We can't let the 'strongest' do nothing, can we?"

[Ding! Host needs detected. Side quest system unlocked!]

Side Quest Types: 1. Visiting important locations from the original work (such as Shrek Academy, Spirit Hall, the core area of Star Dou Great Forest, etc.); 2. Fighting and defeating powerful opponents; 3. Randomly triggered special events.

[Completing side quests earns points, which can be redeemed for items, skills, dessert vouchers, and other rewards in the system shop. The higher your point level, the richer the rewards you can redeem!]

As soon as the system notification appeared, Gojo Satoru's eyes lit up, and he sat up straight and laughed: "Oh~ this is more interesting! If you had told me earlier, I wouldn't have been bored for so long."

He tapped the table lightly with his fingertips, pondering: "Checking in at the original location is a good idea. I can see the current timeline and test my strength... I've got it! Shrek Academy! Let's go see if this academy that 'only accepts monsters' is still outside the city, and if Tang San has arrived."

Without hesitation, Gojo Satoru stood up and instantly cleaned up the cream stains on his body with Limitless. He waved to the shopkeeper, and his figure disappeared into the doorway as a pale blue afterimage, leaving only the words "Thank you for the meal," which stunned the shopkeeper into standing there dumbfounded.

On the edge of a dilapidated village outside Soto, an extremely simple college comes into view.

The courtyard walls were made of mud and gravel, and the gate was made of two old wooden planks with the words "Shrek Academy" crookedly written on them. There were no guards, and it was even more shabby than a cowshed.

Gojo Satoru hovered in mid-air, observing the scene. His lips twitched: This is Shrek Academy? It's so shabby.

[Ding! Successfully checked in at Shrek Academy (early stage)! Reward: 200 points, unlocked basic system shop access!]

The reward notification sounded, and Gojo Satoru's interest grew even stronger. He flashed to the doorway and walked straight inside.

The academy was just as shabby as the outside, with only a few dilapidated wooden houses and an open training ground where two teenagers with soul power of level ten or so were cultivating.

He scanned the entire area with his Six Eyes, but did not see Tang San, Dai Mubai, or the others, indicating that it would be some time before Tang San enrolled in school.

"Who goes there? Sneaking around like that!"

A sharp voice rang out, and Flander strode over, his hair disheveled, and looked Gojo Satoru up and down with a wary expression.

The white-haired youth was dressed neatly, with a lazy and flamboyant demeanor. He looked like a rich kid who had gotten lost, but there was nothing worth stealing in the academy.

"Just passing by to take a look."

Gojo Satoru shrugged, speaking casually, "I heard you only take in monsters, so I came out of curiosity to see for myself."

"How dare you! You think you can just barge into Shrek Academy like this?" Flander's face darkened, and he sternly ordered, "No strangers are welcome here, get out of here!"

He had already made up his mind that if the young man continued to cause trouble, he would simply take action and drive him away.

Although the other party didn't seem to have any malicious intent, the academy's rules couldn't be broken.

"Leave? Don't rush."

Gojo Satoru chuckled lightly, took two steps forward, and a hint of provocation flashed in his azure eyes.

"Since you're here, why don't we play a game before you leave? I see your academy is pretty poor, how about we play a bet?"

"Gambling?"

Flander paused for a moment, then looked at him warily. "What do you want to bet?"

"It's very simple."

Gojo Satoru held up four fingers, his tone arrogant, "I'll wager four hundred gold soul coins. Your academy will send someone to fight. If they can beat me, the four hundred gold soul coins are yours. If you lose, you don't have to pay anything; you just have to admit that I'm stronger than you."

Four hundred gold soul coins! This number made Flander's eyes light up instantly.

It's important to know that Shrek Academy is short of funds; four hundred gold soul coins would be enough to cover the expenses of all the teachers and students for more than half a year.

He suppressed his excitement and kept a wary eye on Gojo Satoru.

"Are you sure? You're going to bet four hundred gold soul coins?"

"Certainly."

Gojo Satoru took out a bag of gold soul coins from his system inventory, tossed it around, and the bag made a crisp sound as it bumped against the ground. "Cash is here, no cheating."

His actions startled other teachers in the academy, and Li Yusong, Zhao Wuji, and others came over and surrounded him.

Not far away, Oscar and Ma Hongjun, who were originally cultivating, also came over and stood on tiptoe to watch the excitement.

"Oscar, four hundred gold soul coins! That's enough to buy so many sausages!"

Ma Hongjun's eyes widened, his chubby body swayed slightly, and his tone was full of shock.

Oscar swallowed hard, gripped the newly formed recovery sausage in his hand, and frowned slightly.

"Keep your voice down! This white-haired guy doesn't seem simple. He dares to gamble with the Dean and the others, so he must have some skills. Besides, four hundred gold soul coins is no small amount. There might really be a trap."

"A trap? What kind of trap could there be? If we can't beat him, we just lose. We don't have to pay anything."

Ma Hongjun scratched his head, looking puzzled. "If we win, our academy can improve our meals!"

Oscar didn't say anything more, but just stared at Gojo Satoru with a wary look in his eyes, muttering to himself.

This white-haired youth has a very strange demeanor; he looks lazy, but you can't underestimate him.

Upon hearing Gojo Satoru's bet, Li Yusong frowned.

"Dean, could this be a trap?"

Zhao Wuji rubbed his hands together, a glint of fighting spirit flashing in his eyes. "Who cares if it's a trap or not, four hundred gold soul coins are too tempting! This pretty boy looks so weak, I can handle him by myself!"

Flander hesitated for a moment, looked at the gold soul coin in Gojo Satoru's hand, then at the dilapidated wooden house of the academy, and finally nodded through gritted teeth.

"Okay! I accept your bet!"

He turned to Zhao Wuji and said, "Old Zhao, you go! Be careful, don't let things go wrong."

"Don't worry, Dean!"

Zhao Wuji grinned, revealing two rows of gleaming white teeth, his face full of arrogance and domineering.
