The First Day at School
(A Short Story)
The soft light of morning slowly entered the room through the window. The sky was bright, and birds were flying freely in the air. This morning felt a little different from all the other days.
The little boy's name was Bifal. Today was a very special day in his life—his first day at school.
As soon as Bifal woke up, he noticed that the atmosphere at home felt a bit busy and unusual. His mother had woken up early and was working in the kitchen, while his father was getting ready to take him to school before leaving for work.
Bifal sat quietly on his bed for a moment. His heart was filled with strange feelings—there was excitement, but also a little fear.
His mother came to him and said,
"Bifal, you're awake? Today is your big day."
Bifal replied softly,
"Mom… can I not go today?"
His mother smiled and gently stroked his head.
"No, my dear. You must go today. At school you will learn many things and make many friends."
But Bifal still felt a strange fear inside. He kept thinking,
"Will I know anyone there? Will anyone talk to me?"
New Clothes, A New Path
His mother helped him wear his new school uniform and placed a small bag on his shoulders.
Bifal stood in front of the mirror and looked at himself. For a moment, he felt as if he had suddenly grown a little older.
Holding his father's hand, he stepped out of the house.
On the road, many children were going to school with their parents. Some were laughing, some were talking happily. But Bifal remained very quiet.
He held his father's hand tightly.
When they reached the school gate, Bifal's heart began to beat faster.
The big gate, so many children, and all the noise—everything felt new to him.
His father said,
"Don't be afraid, Bifal. I am right here."
But when his father slowly walked away after leaving him at the classroom door, tears filled Bifal's eyes.
He thought silently,
"Can I really stay here without my parents?"
The First Lonely Moments
When Bifal entered the classroom, he saw many children already sitting inside. Some were laughing, some were playing.
But everything felt unfamiliar to him.
He quietly went to a corner and sat down.
At that moment, he felt,
"I have no one here."
Suddenly a boy sitting beside him asked,
"What is your name?"
Bifal looked at him with surprise.
The boy's name was Rudra.
Rudra smiled and said,
"Don't be scared. Today is my first day too."
Hearing this, Bifal felt a little lighter.
A New Friendship
Slowly, Bifal and Rudra started talking.
They discovered that they had many things in common—they both loved drawing and listening to stories.
After some time, the teacher entered the classroom.
With a gentle voice, the teacher said,
"Don't be afraid. School is not only a place for studying. Here you will also enjoy and make friends."
Hearing the teacher's words, Bifal felt calmer.
He realized that
school was not such a frightening place after all.
Small Moments of the Day
During the lunch break, everyone went to the playground.
Bifal and Rudra sat together and shared their lunch.
Some children were running, some were playing, and some were chatting happily.
Slowly, Bifal began to smile.
The fear he felt in the morning seemed to disappear.
He thought to himself,
"This is a place where you can find many friends."
The End of the Day
In the afternoon, school was over.
Outside the gate, Bifal saw his mother waiting for him.
As soon as he saw her, he ran and hugged her tightly.
His mother asked,
"How was your first day?"
Bifal smiled and replied,
"It was very good! I made a new friend today."
His mother said with surprise,
"Really?"
Bifal happily answered,
"Yes, Mom… I want to go to school again tomorrow."
A Small Realization
That night, Bifal lay on his bed and thought about the day.
In the morning he had been so scared and worried.
But now he realized something important.
That fear was only the beginning of a new journey.
School is not just a place for learning lessons.
It is a place where new friendships, new dreams, and new courage are born.
And Bifal understood that—
Every new beginning in life may feel a little scary at first, but in the end, it helps us grow strong
