Chapter 2 - 2. Tears Behind the Agreement

Shukdev Veer Singh and his wife went to Mohan Kumar's house. After sitting down, Shukdev spoke with seriousness in his voice.

"Mohan ji, today I need your help. Can you help me?"

Mohan Kumar immediately replied with gratitude,

"You saved my life that day. If I am alive today, it is only because of you. How can I ever refuse to help you? Please tell me what I can do for you."

Shukdev took a deep breath and said,

"I want your daughter to marry my son… only for one year."

Hearing this, Mohan Kumar was completely shocked.

He looked at Shukdev with confusion and asked,

"If I'm not wrong, your son's wedding is supposed to happen tomorrow, isn't it?"

Shukdev nodded.

"Yes, the wedding is tomorrow. But the girl my son is marrying is not right for him. My son hid an important truth from me. After marriage, she plans to take my son Madhav away from us and settle permanently in America."

He folded his hands in front of Mohan Kumar.

"Right now, only you can help me."

Seeing such a respected and powerful man standing with folded hands broke Mohan Kumar's heart. He could not refuse him.

Finally, Mohan Kumar slowly said, "Alright… I will help you."

Shukdev immediately hugged him in relief.

However, someone had heard the entire conversation.

Twinkle.

She was standing nearby and listening to everything. Her mind went blank. She could not understand what she should do.

After Shukdev left, Mohan Kumar went to Twinkle's room and explained everything about the contract marriage.

But Twinkle immediately refused.

"Papa, marriage is a sacred bond between two hearts and two families. It is not a deal… and that too only for one year. I cannot do this."

Her father's eyes filled with tears.

"Twinkle, since childhood I have always been proud of you. I always believed that my daughter would never refuse me. I believed that for my respect, you could do anything. But today… you broke my pride."

With these words, he sadly walked out of the room.

Twinkle felt heartbroken.

Then her mother angrily said,

"That rich man saved your father's life. He paid the entire hospital bill and never even asked us for a single rupee. Today he needs our help, and we are so poor that we cannot even help him?"

Just then, they heard something fall.

Twinkle and her mother rushed outside and saw Mohan Kumar lying unconscious on the floor.

They immediately called a nearby doctor.

After checking him, the doctor said,

"Don't worry. He just fainted because of stress. He will regain consciousness soon. But make sure he does not take any more stress."

After some time, Mohan Kumar opened his eyes.

Twinkle immediately hugged him and said with tears in her eyes,

"Papa, please forgive me. I will do whatever you say."

Her father looked confused.

"What do you mean?"

Twinkle wiped her tears and said,

"I am ready for the contract marriage. You can tell uncle yes."

Hearing this, both her parents felt relieved and happy.

Mohan Kumar immediately called Shukdev and informed him that Twinkle had agreed.

Soon after, preparations began at Twinkle's house as well, and her haldi ceremony started.

Meanwhile at Madhav's House

Shukdev wanted to talk to Madhav. He called him to his room where his mother and father were waiting.

Shukdev was sitting seriously on a chair.

He asked Madhav directly,

"Vishaka is planning to take you to America after marriage. Is that true?"

Sweat appeared on Madhav's forehead. His voice trembled as he tried to explain.

But Shukdev stopped him.

"Just answer yes or no."

Madhav lowered his head and said quietly,

"Yes."

"Did you already know about this?"

Madhav nervously replied,

"Yes."

The moment Shukdev heard this, anger took over him and he slapped Madhav.

Madhav's mother immediately said,

"What are you doing? He is your grown-up son!"

Shukdev shouted angrily,

"What should I do? He hid such a big truth from me! He didn't even think it was necessary to tell his father!"

Madhav tried to explain.

"Father, what could I do? If I had told you the truth, you would never have allowed me to marry Vishaka. And I cannot leave her… I love her."

Shukdev looked at him firmly and gave him two choices.

"Fine. Either you marry Vishaka and forget us forever… or you choose your family."

Madhav stood there silently, unable to understand what he should do.

Shukdev continued,

"Think carefully. Your mother who gave birth to you, raised you with love… and me, your father, who fulfilled every small and big need of yours."

He paused and then said,

"Or that girl Vishaka who lied to us and tried to take our son away from his family."

After a long silence, Madhav finally made his decision.

"I choose you… my family. For me, you are like God. I will do whatever you say."

Hearing this, Shukdev happily hugged him.

"I am proud that you are my son."

But when Madhav walked out of the room, tears rolled down his eyes.

His heart felt completely broken.

Now the question remained—

What will be the fate of this contract marriage, which was happening only because of family pressure?

A marriage where there was no love… and the bride and groom barely even knew each other.

To know what happens next… stay tuned to the story.
