Chapter 7 - The High Alpha’s Command

Chapter 7

The clearing fell completely silent.

Even the council hunters hesitated as the massive white wolf stepped forward.

When the creature shifted, the man who emerged carried an authority that made the air itself feel heavier.

Tall.

Broad.

Ancient power radiated from him like a storm barely contained.

His icy blue eyes locked onto Ariana immediately.

And they didn't leave her.

Kael Vaughn's entire body went rigid.

Of all the enemies that could have appeared tonight…

this was the worst.

"The High Alpha," Cassian murmured with mild amusement.

Even the vampire lord sounded cautious now.

The man stepped forward slowly, his boots crunching against the broken earth.

His gaze flicked briefly to Kael.

"Step aside."

Kael tightened his hold on Ariana.

"No."

The word came out low and dangerous.

Several council hunters shifted nervously.

The High Alpha studied him calmly.

"You're standing between the council and a threat to the entire supernatural world."

Kael didn't move.

"She's not a threat."

The High Alpha's eyes hardened.

"The Fifth Blood always becomes one."

Ariana stirred weakly in Kael's arms, her golden eyes flickering open.

Her head felt heavy, as if every ounce of strength had drained from her body.

"Kael…" she whispered.

"I'm here," he said quietly.

But the moment the High Alpha saw her glowing eyes—

his expression darkened.

"So it's true," he said.

"The awakening has begun."

Cassian chuckled softly.

"Oh, it's more interesting than that."

The High Alpha's cold gaze slid toward him.

"Speak."

Cassian gestured lazily toward Kael and Ariana.

"The Alpha bond has already formed."

For the first time, the High Alpha's composure cracked.

His attention snapped back to Kael.

"You bonded with her?"

Kael's wolf growled beneath his skin.

"I didn't choose it."

The High Alpha's voice turned colder.

"That doesn't matter."

His gaze returned to Ariana.

"The bond can be broken."

Ariana felt Kael's entire body tense.

"How?" Kael asked.

The High Alpha answered without hesitation.

"Kill her."

The words struck Ariana like ice.

Her breath caught.

Kael's eyes blazed instantly.

"That's not happening."

The High Alpha stepped closer.

"You're thinking like a mate."

"I am a mate."

"You're also an Alpha," the High Alpha snapped.

"You swore loyalty to the council."

Kael's jaw tightened.

"Not at the cost of her life."

The tension in the clearing thickened.

The hunters shifted closer.

Weapons ready.

The winged guardian watched silently from the side, its silver eyes observing everything.

The High Alpha studied Kael for several seconds.

"You're making a mistake."

"Maybe."

"But it's mine to make."

Ariana forced herself to stand beside Kael.

Her legs trembled, but she refused to hide behind him.

"I'm not something you can just kill," she said.

The High Alpha looked at her carefully.

His gaze moved slowly to her glowing eyes.

Gold.

Pure and unmistakable.

"You don't understand what you are," he said.

"Then explain it."

The High Alpha remained silent for a moment.

Then he spoke.

"Your power will destroy the balance between bloodlines."

Ariana shook her head.

"I didn't ask for this."

"No one ever does."

Cassian sighed dramatically.

"This conversation is fascinating, truly."

"But unfortunately we're wasting time."

The vampire lord gestured toward the forest.

The sound of approaching forces was growing louder.

More hunters.

More creatures.

More danger.

"The entire council army is arriving," Cassian said.

"Soon this place will be filled with enough power to level a city."

Kael glanced toward the trees.

He could already feel them.

Dozens of supernatural presences moving closer.

"We need to go," he said quietly.

The High Alpha stepped forward again.

"You're not leaving with her."

Kael's wolf surged forward.

"Watch me."

The High Alpha's blue eyes glowed with cold fury.

"You think you can challenge me?"

Kael didn't answer.

Instead—

his bones shifted.

His muscles expanded.

Within seconds, the massive black wolf stood where Kael Vaughn had been.

The ground trembled beneath his paws.

The High Alpha raised an eyebrow.

"You're still young, Kael."

The enormous white wolf erupted from the High Alpha's body a moment later.

It dwarfed Kael's wolf.

Ancient.

Powerful.

Terrifying.

The clearing suddenly felt much smaller.

Cassian stepped aside casually.

"Oh good," he said.

"I was hoping this would happen."

Ariana stared in horror as the two massive wolves faced each other.

"Stop!" she shouted.

Neither Alpha moved.

Their glowing eyes locked.

Predator against predator.

The High Alpha's voice echoed through Kael's mind.

You will stand down.

Kael's wolf snarled.

No.

The white wolf lunged.

The impact shook the clearing.

Ariana screamed as the two massive wolves crashed into each other with devastating force.

Claws tore through dirt.

Teeth snapped.

The battle was brutal.

Fast.

Ancient.

Kael fought with everything he had.

But the High Alpha was stronger.

Older.

More experienced.

Within seconds the white wolf slammed him into the ground.

Ariana's heart stopped.

"Kael!"

The High Alpha's jaws closed around Kael's throat.

One bite would end it.

The clearing froze.

But then—

Ariana felt the power inside her surge again.

Hot.

Violent.

Uncontrollable.

Golden light exploded from her body.

"STOP!"

The command tore from her voice.

The ground cracked beneath her feet.

Every supernatural creature in the clearing froze.

Even the High Alpha.

His jaws loosened.

His glowing blue eyes slowly turned toward Ariana.

And for the first time since arriving—

the ancient Alpha looked shocked.

Because Ariana Sinclair was no longer standing on the ground.

Golden light surrounded her.

But this time—

something new appeared behind her.

A massive shape made of pure energy.

The outline of enormous wings.

And a crown of golden fire.

Cassian stared in disbelief.

"Well," he whispered.

"That changes everything."
