*Chapter: "Shadows Converge"*
Night swallowed the crumbling city, neon flickering like dying stars š. Yun slipped out, boots quiet on wet rooftops, his dark hoodie a perfect blend with the shadows. Mission: hunt the Nightshade beast š¦ terrorizing Sector 7, a job posted by the local guild for a hefty sum. The rain dripped like a metronome, marking time in the urban symphony.
_He's got eyes on me._
Yun sensed itāa bounty Hunter. _Third one this week._ Guess being a reincarnated demon slayer made him a hot target šŖ. The whispers in the underground, the way some folks looked at him sideways⦠he was a ghost with a price tag.
Drops of rain turned to ice, slicing skin. Yun welcomed itāfocus sharpened. He vaulted gaps, alleyways swallowing his steps. _Where's the tail?_ š
Thereāa black daggar flickered, Hunter-grade tech. Yun smirked. _Amateurs_. He circled back, alley narrowing. The Hunter droppedādark coat blending into shadows. Female, lean, crossbow aimed š£.
"Yun 'Rider' _bounty's alive,"_ she purred, voice like silk. "Archangels pay top dollar."
Yun tilted his head, eyes narrowing. "Which faction?"
"Does it matter?" š Daggar arched, a silvery glint. "You're a ticket to power."
Yun blurredāsword out, _The Grim series_ pages rustling in his mind. Crossbow bolt shattered š„. She lunged knives; he parried, power words burning air š®.
"Back off."
Hunter froze. "You'reā¦one of _them_." Whispered awe. Her gaze flicked to his handsāno scars, no marks. Just a guy holding a sword.
Yun's grin was ice. "Not here for tea. Nightshade doesn't hunt alone."
Beast roar echoedāalley's end. Sulfur šŗ. The air thickened.
Hunter's eyes widened. "You're⦠hunting it?"
"Payday for you if you leave." š Yun jerked his head.
Elara sheathed knives, assessing. "I'm Elara. Debt paidā¦for now."
Yun nodded. _The Grim series_ hummed š®ā beast incoming.
Nightshade burst forthāwether shadow, claws ripping steel š¦. Yun charged š„.
*Grim page 13:* _"Mortis scelerisqueā"_
Beast howled. Reality warped šāYun's blade sliced _through_ it š. Carcass crashed.
Silence. Carcass smoked. Elara watchedācurious.
"You staying?" Yun asked, breathing even.
Elara sheathed knives. "Next fight's yours. _The Grim series_ā¦true power?"
Yun's gaze sharpened. "You wanna find out?"
Elara smiledā _she doesn't know_.
They walked off. Yun's phone buzzedāguild message: _New target. Sector 4._ š°
"Gonna cash in," he said. "You wanna watch?"
Elara grinned. "I'm _in_."
They hit Sector 4ācrowds parted. Rumors of a possessed statue š® in the abandoned church. Yun's _Grim_ pages fluttered.
*Grim page 25:* _"Umbra vincitā"_
Statue twitchedāstone tentacles š lashed. Yun danced šāsword slicing _through_ stone š„. Elara watched, knives twirling.
Statue crumbled. Silence.
Yun turned. "Paid."
Elara whisted. "You're⦠useful."
Yun tossed her a chip š³. "For the assist."
Elara caught it. "Next one's on me š."
Night folded over Sector 4ā _the law of reality is breaking._ Cracks spiderwebbed skyward š.
Yun's earpiece crackledā _"ā¦Yun Rider, report to HQ."_ Guild voice, urgent.
Elara leaned in. "Guess HQ knows."
Yun nodded. _Time to move._ š
