The Bloodfang Pack did not forgive. They hunted. Deep within a forest far darker than Ashgrove's peaceful woods, a fortress of blackened stone rose from the earth like a scar. Fires burned in tall iron cages, casting long shadows across the courtyard.
At the center of it all sat Alpha Rurik. He leaned back in his throne, carved from the skull of a massive beast, his sharp golden eyes glowing with quiet fury. One of his warriors knelt before him, bruised and trembling.
"You're telling me," Rurik said slowly, "that you found the Nightfall Alpha's mate…" The warrior swallowed"…and failed to capture her." Silence filled the hall.
Heavy.
Dangerous.
Rurik stood. He was larger than most wolves, his presence alone enough to make weaker ones bow their heads. "And why," he continued calmly, "did you fail?"
The warrior hesitated. Then he whispered."Kael."
The name lingered in the air like poison. "He appeared out of nowhere," the warrior continued. "Shifted and tore through our hunters before we could even react." Rurik's lips curved into a thin smile. "So the rumors are true." He walked slowly down the steps of his throne. "The great Kael has finally found his mate." The warrior lowered his gaze. "Yes, Alpha." Rurik looked toward the dark forest beyond the fortress walls.
For years he had searched for a weakness in Kael. And now fate had delivered one. A human girl in an unprotected village.
Perfect.
"Prepare a second hunting party," Rurik ordered quietly. "But this time…"His smile widened"…we do not attack the village."
The warriors looked confused. Rurik's eyes gleamed. "We watch,Wait." "And when the Nightfall Alpha grows careless protecting his little human…" His voice dropped to a whisper. "We take everything from him."

Back at the Nightfall stronghold, the mood was tense. Kael stood in the training courtyard at dawn, shirtless, sweat dripping down his back as he sparred with three warriors at once. They attacked together.
Steel clashed. Kael moved like a storm.
One warrior's blade came toward his shoulder, Kael caught his wrist and twisted.
Another lunged from behind, Kael spun, knocking the weapon aside and sending him crashing to the ground.
Within seconds the fight was over. The three wolves lay in the dirt, breathing hard. Darius leaned against the stone wall nearby, unimpressed. "You're going to kill someone if you keep training like that."
Kael grabbed a towel and wiped the sweat from his face. "Then they should fight better."
Darius sighed. "This isn't about training."
Kael said nothing. Because Darius was right. The mate bond had kept him awake all night.
Every time Elara stirred in her sleep, he felt it. Every time she dreamed, the connection pulsed faintly in his chest. It was distracting.
Dangerously distracting.
"You're thinking about her again," Darius said. Kael glared at him. "I'm thinking about Bloodfang." "Same thing right now."
Kael didn't deny it. Because protecting Elara meant protecting her from Rurik. And Rurik was not a patient enemy.

Meanwhile in Ashgrove, the village buzzed with nervous energy. The wolf attack had spread through every household overnight. Elara sat outside the bakery with Tessa and Liam, listening as villagers argued nearby. "We should send word to the next town," one farmer insisted. "It was just wild animals," another said. "Wild animals don't hunt in groups that big!"
Tessa leaned toward Elara. "See? I told you something weird was happening." Elara stared down at her cup of tea. Her mind was somewhere else entirely. Back in the field. Back with the silver wolf.
"You're quiet," Liam said. Elara hesitated. "Do you think wolves can… protect people?"
Liam blinked. "Protect?, "Like… chase other wolves away." Tessa snorted. "Elara, wolves don't play hero."
But Elara wasn't so sure. Because when those amber eyes had looked at her…There had been something there.
Not hunger. Not anger. Something else.
Something she couldn't explain.

Far away in the forest beyond the village, Kael stood hidden once again among the trees. Watching. Guarding. Waiting.
The morning sun filtered through the leaves as Elara laughed softly at something Tessa said.
For a moment, Kael simply observed her. The way she smiled easily. The way the villagers naturally gathered around her.
She brought warmth wherever she went. Completely unaware of the storm circling her life. Lyra's words from the night before echoed in his mind. "You're afraid of losing someone again." Kael clenched his jaw.
Maybe she was right.
Because this time…The enemy wasn't just attacking his pack. They were hunting his mate.
And Kael had already decided something. Something the Bloodfang Alpha did not yet understand. If they came for Elara again, He wouldn't just fight them. He would end them.
Every last one.
From the shadows of the forest, his golden eyes never left her. And somewhere deep inside him, something unfamiliar continued to grow. Not just the instinct of a mate. But the dangerous beginning of love.
