Chapter 1 - Boredom

The school building stood quietly under the afternoon sun.

It was lunch break,so most of the classrooms were empty.Student had already rushed outside to the cafeteria, the school yard, or nearby shops.

Inside one of the classrooms, however,a few students remained.

Some were sleeping with their head on the tables.Others were scrolling through their phones.

Near the back corner of the room, two boys were talking.

One of them sat lazily in his chair, spinning a pen between his fingers. The other leaned beside the desk, standing casually with his hands in his pockets.

The bpy sitting down glanced up and sighed.

"Really,Lin Thit."

"Aren't you going to study?"

He tapped a thick exam booklet on the desk.

"The exam are coming soon. And from what I've seen....you're not exactly doing good in class."

The standing boy,Lin Thit, only smile. It wasn't a confident smile. But rather the careless grin of someone who didn't feel worried at all.

"Don't worry,Aung San"He gaved a thumbs up.

"You know me."

"When the exam come....I will just copy from you."

The boy who was sitting,Aung Dan,stared at his friend for a moment. Then,he shook his head helplessly.

"You know,you're really shameless"

Lin Thit simply smile at his remake.

-

This is my school life.

Lin Thit looked around the class while thinking to himself.

And honestly....it's boring.

In this school, authority wasn't decided by intelligent or test scores. It was determined by something much simpler.

How bad could you be.

How many rules you could break.

How fearless you looked.

At the back of the classroom,a group of boys and girls are gathered around a guy.

They were talking very loudly that everyone attentions kept drifting toward them. They were the kind of students teachers constantly complained about.

Troublemakers.

Deliquents.

But strangely, they also had the most presence in the room.

Lin Thit glanced at them before looking away again.

And me?

He shrugged slightly.

I am mediocred at best.

Not smart or dumb enough to stand out.Just somewhere in the middle.

.

.

The Final class of the day has ended. The bell rang loudly through the hallways.

Students immediately began packing their bags like they'd been waiting for that ring. Some already leaving with their prepared bags.

Lin Thit moved slower than the others. He casually put his books into the bag and slung it over his shoulder before stepping out the classroom.

Outside,he leaned against the wall in the corridor, waiting for someone.A few seconds later,Aung San run out of the classroom.

"Hey!Wait for me!"

Lin Thit grinned."Took you long enough."

The two of them started walking toward the exit while chatting.Their conversations were meaningless.Complaints about homeworks and games.Nothing important but just the usual nonsense between friends.

Soon, they reached the small street outside the school.Lin Thit house was extremely close. In fact,it was only about a minute away from school building.

Lucky, some people would say but he didn't think so.

He waved a casual goodbye to Aung San."Alright, see you tomorrow."

His friend waved back."Don't forget the homework." "No promises."

When Lin Thit entered his house, the familar sound of running water greeted him.His mother was in the kitchen, washing dishes as she usually do.

She turned slighty when she heard the door."Oh,you're back already."

Lin Thit took off his shoes near the entrance."Yeah.Where's dad?"Normally,Dad should already be back at home.

I don't want to brag but my dad owns a mini market store at the main street of South Dagon. So,we don't normally have problem with money.

"He's still at work."She replied."He says he has overtime today"She then wiped her hands with a towel."So,we will have to wait for him before the dinner."

So...that's why."Okey.Just call me if you need something mom.I will be in my room."He walked down the short hallway, passing by his parents room and entered his.

The moment the door closed—he locked it.Then,he threw his backpack carelessly onto the floor. And collapsed onto his bag.The mattress sank slighty under his weight. He stayed like this for minutes.

Finally, his muffled voice escape into the quiet room."....Boring."

Lin Thit rolled onto his back and stared at the ceiling as his daily life play through his mind like a repetitive film.

Wake up at 6:30 AM.

Take a shower.

Eat breakfast.

Go to school at 8:00 AM.

Spend hours sitting in classroom, listening to teachers talking about things he didn't care about.

Studying subjects that felt pointless.

Then go home around 2:00 PM.

Repeat that again.

And again.

And again every single day.

His thoughts drifted back to the loud group in his class. The deliquents students. The ones who didn't care about rules and seemed free.

Lin Thit frowned slightly."I hate those guys..."But even as he said it,another feeling crept into his heart.Something he didn't want to admit.

Jealousy.

They were living however they wanted. While he was stuck repeating the same dull routine every single day.Lin Thit covered his eyes his his arm.

"...Man."He sighed deeply."I'm so bored."
