Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Secrets in the moonlight

Lily's heart was still racing as she looked at Adam. Just a few seconds ago, he had been a wolf. Now he stood in front of her, tall and quiet, his golden eyes shining in the moonlight.

"You really aren't scared?" Adam asked again.

"I mean… I should be," she admitted. "But you didn't hurt me."

Adam looked away. "I would never hurt you.

Something about the way he said it made Lily's cheeks warm. The forest was silent except for the soft wind in the trees.

"Why are you here?" Adam asked.

"I come here a lot," Lily said. "I like the forest."

Adam looked surprised. "Most humans avoid it."

"Well," Lily said with a small smile, "most humans have never met a talking wolf either."

Adam laughed quietly. It was a soft laugh, but it made Lily smile. For the next hour, they talked under the moonlight. Lily learned that Adam lived deep in the forest. He had been alone for a long time. Adam learned that Lily loved books, rivers, and exploring places she wasn't supposed to go.

Before they realized it, the moon was high in the sky.

"I should go home," Lily said slowly.

Adam nodded, but neither of them moved. Something strange had grown between them—a quiet connection.

Lily stepped a little closer. Adam's golden eyes softened.

"You'll come back?" he asked.

"Of course," Lily said.

Suddenly, Lily tripped on a small root. Adam quickly caught her before she fell. For a moment, they were very close. Closer than either of them expected.

Lily could feel her heart beating fast. Adam looked down at her face.

"Your heart is loud," he said softly.

"That's embarrassing," Lily whispered.

Adam smiled slightly. Without thinking, Lily leaned forward and gave him a quick, shy kiss on the cheek.

Adam froze. Lily immediately stepped back, her face bright red.

"I—I'm sorry!" she said quickly.

Adam touched his cheek where she kissed him. "You don't have to apologize," he said quietly.

The moonlight shined between them. Slowly, Adam stepped closer. He gently lifted Lily's chin. Their eyes met. Then softly… carefully… Adam kissed her

It was gentle and sweet, like the quiet forest around them.

When they pulled away, both of them were smiling.

"I think," Lily said nervously, "this might be the beginning of something crazy."

Adam chuckled softly. "With a human and a wolf… it probably will be.

But neither of them knew yet… their love would soon face dangers far greater than they imagined. Somewhere in the dark forest, other wolves were watching.
