Chapter 41 - Ch41-Brother Jie, Killing Isn't a Good Thing

Ch41-Brother Jie, Killing Isn't a Good Thing

"My dad..."

Li Shanyang lay naked on the bed, his body turning blue, his chest completely still.

He looked as if he were dead.

The fat man sat motionless in the gaming chair beside him, head bowed.

Liu Jie helped Li Xiaoya to her feet, and the two of them supported each other over.

First, they checked Li Shanyang's nose-no breath at all, his body already stiff with cold.

"Dad!"

Li Xiaoya covered her mouth, unable to accept it.

How many days had it been since the heavy rain? Her father and mother had died one after another.

Now she was an orphan, completely alone.

The scene beneath Li Shanyang was a mess. It was easy to imagine the inhuman suffering he had endured before dying.

Li Xiaoya didn't blame herself. Instead, she directed all her anger at Meng Ci.

If Meng Ci hadn't tricked everyone into coming here, they wouldn't be trapped without food or water.

If Meng Ci hadn't stood by with food while letting people die, her parents wouldn't have suffered one tragedy after another over food.

Meng Ci, I won't let you off the hook.

Liu Jie swallowed hard, preparing to check the fat man's pulse.

"Holy shit!"

"Damn it!"

The moment Liu Jie's hand touched the fat man's nose, completely unprepared, the corpse suddenly grabbed his wrist.

Li Xiaoya and Liu Jie both screamed in terror.

"Food... food... I need food!" the fat man muttered, clutching Liu Jie's hand.

His eyes locked onto Liu Jie's hand, then he lunged and bit down hard.

"Damn it! Stop!"

Liu Jie felt like the fat bastard was going to bite a chunk out of his hand. His other hand wildly smacked the fat man's head.

"Let go of me!"

The fat man clamped down on Liu Jie's hand, showing no sign of releasing his grip.

Damn it, he's practically a dead man, yet he still has so much strength!

"Yaya, where's the knife? Give it to me!" Liu Jie's eyes were bloodshot from the pain.

Li Xiaoya trembled as she handed the knife to Liu Jie.

"Brother Jie, wh-what are you doing?!"

"Killing someone... that's not... not good!"

Killing? Liu Jie couldn't care less about that right now. The bastard was about to bite off a chunk of his flesh!

If he didn't deal with this guy immediately, he'd be the one dying.

Knife in his left hand, Liu Jie slashed viciously at the fat man's neck twice.

Feeling the pain, the fat man finally released Liu Jie's hand and slumped back against the chair.

His mouth was filled with Liu Jie's blood.

"Food! I want food!"

Liu Jie placed the knife on the table piled high with instant noodle containers, cradling his bitten hand. The teeth marks. were deep enough to reach the bone!

"Damn it."

With wounds this deep and that downpour outside, who knows if he'd even get a chance for rabies shots.

Fuck!

What if this guy had some disease?

Furious, Liu Jie kicked the gaming chair, sending it tipping backward.

The fat man's head slammed into the bedside table. His mouth opened and closed, then finally, he fell still.

Li Xiaoya felt the aura radiating from Liu Jie at that moment was terrifying.

But now that both her parents were dead, Liu Jie was the only one she could rely on. So despite her fear, she went over to comfort him.

"Brother Jie, is your hand okay?"

Liu Jie shook his head. "I'm fine!"

"Let's keep looking for food!"

Killing someone should have been terrifying, but after dispatching the Fat Man, Liu Jie felt inexplicably relieved, without a trace of fear.

Instead, the restlessness in his heart eased.

The two rummaged through the room, finding only half a bag of moldy bread, an unopened bottle of cola, and half a bucket of chicken drumsticks!

The chicken legs had already started to smell, but to two starving people, they looked like a banquet fit for emperors!

One didn't care that her hands had just touched a rat, the other didn't care that his hands were stained with blood. They grabbed the chicken legs and began munching away.

They took turns sipping the cola.

After finishing it, they shared a knowing smile before belching in unison.

Though the chicken legs were greasy and had an off flavor, the sheer satisfaction of a full stomach made them feel Incredibly happy.

With their bellies full, they didn't want to leave any stone unturned and searched the room once more.

Convinced there was truly no more food, they grabbed the half-bag of bread and headed upstairs.

All the while, they cursed the fat man. Even in death, he hadn't left them a single crumb.

What a glutton!

After confirming both Li Shanyang and the fat man were dead, Meng Ci lit a scented candle and poured himself half a glass of red wine to celebrate.

He then pulled out the steak he'd bought in M Country and prepared a candlelit dinner.

Well fed and satisfied, Meng Ci climbed into bed contentedly.

He woke up at eight o'clock sharp.

Meng Ci retrieved a cup of soy milk and a whole-grain pancake from his spatial pocket, finishing them while watching a TV drama.

"Squeak~"

Suddenly, the sound of an alarm blared from outside.

Through the peephole, Meng Ci saw Shen Que standing outside, fiddling with something.

"Shen Que, what are you doing?"

Hearing Meng Ci's voice, Shen Que turned and explained, "I happened to have an alarm at home. I installed it here. If anyone approaches, we'll know right away."

"Oh!"

Since it was for the safety of both households, Meng Ci felt awkward leaving after seeing it, so he stayed put to see if help was needed.

Stepping over yesterday's brickwork, Meng Ci saw the outer wall had been partially torn down.

"Who did this?!"

With no surveillance cameras around, Meng Ci was furious but could only swallow his anger.

"I don't know either."

Shen Que had discovered the damage upon waking that morning, prompting him to install the alarm.

The device used infrared sensors to trigger an alert whenever someone approached.

It ran on batteries, making it very convenient.

Faced with the vandalized wall, the two decided unanimously to finish the brickwork today.

With yesterday's practice under their belts, their coordination was swift.

Shen Que grew increasingly adept at laying bricks.

Once the wall reached about five feet high, Meng Ci brought out a hacksaw and began cutting rebar into random lengths.

Once cut, they inserted the pieces between the brick rows. After the mortar on top had partially set, they could add more cement inside.

They stopped when the wall was ten centimeters short of the ceiling.

This small gap wouldn't deter intruders and allowed for additional cement filling.

To prevent the cement from being tampered with again, Shen Que brought a chair outside and sat there while the cement set, keeping the rusty slaughter knife by his side.

People who sneaked over to peek quickly left upon seeing the knife beside Shen Que

At mealtime, Meng Ci still cooked the food and brought it out to Shen Que.

After that, with nothing else to do, Shen Que began teaching Meng Ci boxing..
