Chapter 2 - A silent village

The Silent Village — Part 2

Menal tried to ignore the warning, but the silence of the village after sunset made it impossible.

That evening, as the sun disappeared behind the mountains, the villagers slowly closed their doors and windows. One by one, the lights inside their houses dimmed. Within minutes, the entire village fell into a strange, heavy silence.

No voices.

No laughter.

Not even the sound of footsteps.

Menal sat inside her small house, staring at the notebook where She had written the old man's warning:

"If you speak after sunset, they will hear you."

She wanted to laugh at the idea, but something about the villagers' fear made her uneasy.

Suddenly, a soft tapping sound came from outside her window.

Tap… tap… tap.

Menal froze.

The tapping stopped.

For a moment, there was nothing but the sound of the wind moving through the trees. Then She heard something else—whispers.

They were faint, like distant voices carried by the night air.

Menal slowly moved toward the window and lifted the curtain slightly.

The narrow street outside was empty.

But then She noticed movement near the well in the center of the village. Something dark slipped between the houses. It did not walk like a person. It seemed to glide, almost silently.

Another shape appeared behind it.

And another.

Menal's heart began to pound.

They were tall shadows, darker than the night itself, moving slowly through the village as if searching for something.

Without thinking, Menal whispered to herself,

"What are they…?"

The moment the words left her lips, the shadows stopped.

All of them.

At the same time.

For a few seconds nothing moved.

Then, slowly… very slowly… one of the shadows turned toward Menal's house.

And the tapping on her window began again.
